The kernel of the Gysin homomorphism for positive characteristic

Let $k$ be an uncountable algebraically closed field of positive characteristic and let $S$ be a smooth projective connected surface over $k$. We extend the theorem on the Gysin kernel from [20, Theorem 5.1] to also be true over $k$, where it was proved over $\mathbb{C}$. This is done by showing that almost all results still hold true over $k$ via the same argument or by using étale base arguments and then using a lift with the Comparison theorems [16, Theorems 21.1 & 20.5] and Tate's Conjecture for finitely generated fields [27] and [31] as needed.

The kernel of the Gysin homomorphism for smooth projective curves

Let $S$ be a smooth projective connected surface over an algebraically closed field $k$ and $Σ$ the linear system of a very ample divisor $D$ on $S$. Let $d:=\dim(Σ)$ be the dimension of $Σ$ and $ϕ_Σ: S \hookrightarrow \mathbb{P}^{d}$ the closed embedding of $S$ into $\mathbb{P}^{d}$, induced by $Σ$. For any closed point $t\inΣ\cong\mathbb{P}^{d^*}$, let $C_t$ be the corresponding hyperplane section on $S$, and let $ r_t:C_t\hookrightarrow S$ be the closed embedding of the curve $C_t$ into $S$. Let $Δ:= \{t \in Σ: C_t \text{ is singular}\}$ be the discriminant locus of $Σ$ and let $U :=Σ\setminus Δ$. For $t \in U$, the kernel of the Gysin homomorphism of the Chow groups of $0$-cycles of degree zero, from $CH_0(C_t)_{deg=0}$ to $CH_0(S)_{deg=0}$ is the countable union of shifts of a certain abelian subvariety $A_t$ inside $J(C_t)$, the Jacobian of the curve $C_t$ (\cite{PS24} for $k \cong \mathbb{C}$, \cite{SW25} for $k \cong \overline{\mathbb{F}_q((t))}$). We prove that for every closed point $t \in U$ either $A_t$ coincides with the abelian variety $B_t$ inside $J(C_t)$ corresponding to the vanishing cohomology $H^1(C_t, k')_{van}$, where $k'$ is the minimal field of definition of $k$, and then the Gysin kernel is a countable union of shifts of $B_t$, or $A_t = 0$, in which case the Gysin kernel is countable. Using the language of algebraic stacks as a generalisation of algebraic varieties this is done by constructing an increasing filtration of Zariski countable open substacks $U_i, i \in I,$ of $U$, where $I$ is a countable set and by applying a convergence argument.

The twisted forms of a semisimple group over an $\mathbb{F}_q$-curve

Let $C$ be a smooth, projective and geometrically connected curve defined over a finite field $\mathbb{F}_q(C)$. Given a semisimple $C-S$-group scheme $\underline{G}$ where $S$ is a finite set of closed points of $C$, we describe the set of ($\mathcal{O}_S$-classes of) twisted forms of $\underline{G}$ in terms of geometric invariants of its fundamental group $F(\underline{G})$.

Another proof of Grothendieck's theorem on the splitting of vector bundles on the projective line

This note contains another proof of Grothendieck`s theorem on the splitting of vector bundles on the projective line over a field $k$. Actually the proof is formulated entirely in the classical terms of a lattice $Λ\cong k[T]^d$, discretely embedded into the vector space $V \cong K_\infty^d$, where $K_\infty \cong k((1/T))$ is the completion of the field of rational functions $k(T)$ at the place $\infty$ with the usual valuation.

Unitary Dual of p-adic U(5)

We study the parabolically induced complex representations of the unitary group in 5 variables, $ U(5), $ defined over a p-adic field. Let $F$ be a p-adic field. Let $E : F$ be a field extension of degree two. Let $Gal(E : F ) = \{ 1, σ\}.$ We write $ σ(x) = \overline{x} \; \forall x \in E. $ Let $ E^* := E \setminus \{ 0 \} $ and let $ E^1 := \{x \in E \mid x \overline{x} = 1 \}$. $U(5) $ has three proper standard Levi subgroups, the minimal Levi subgroup $ M_0 \cong E^* \times E^* \times E^1 $ and the two maximal Levi subgroups $ M_1 \cong GL(2, E) \times E^1 $ and $ M_2 \cong E^* \times U(3)$. We consider representations induced from the minimal Levi subgroup $ M_0, $ representations induced from non-cuspidal, not fully-induced representations of the two maximal Levi subgroups $ M_1 $ and $ M_2, $ and representations induced from cuspidal representations of $ M_1.$ We describe - except several particular cases - the unitary dual in terms of Langlands-quotients.

Irreducible dual of p-adic U(5)
