Cyclicity of centers on center manifolds in a 3D chaotic system with a four-wing attractor

In this work, we investigate the conditions that guarantee the existence of centers on the center manifold, arising from Hopf points, in the new three-dimensional quadratic chaotic system introduced by B. Khaled et al. in 2024 in the Int. J. Data Netw. Sci. For some of the Hopf points of the system, we solve the center-focus problem on the center manifold, analyzing both its isochronicity and cyclicity. Our results significantly improve the previously known lower bound on the number of limit cycles bifurcating from Hopf points in this system, as established by B. M. Mohammed in 2025 in the Int. J. Bifurc. Chaos Appl. Sci. Eng.

Bifurcation of Limit Cycles from a Periodic Annulus Formed by a Center and Two Saddles in Piecewise Linear Differential System with Three Zones

In this paper, we study the number of limit cycles that can bifurcate from a periodic annulus in discontinuous planar piecewise linear Hamiltonian differential system with three zones separated by two parallel straight lines, such that the linear differential systems that define the piecewise one have a center and two saddles. That is, the linear differential system in the region between the two parallel lines (i.e. the central subsystem) has a center and the others subsystems have saddles. We prove that if the central subsystem has a real or a boundary center, then we have at least six limit cycles bifurcating from the periodic annulus by linear perturbations, four passing through the three zones and two passing through the two zones. Now, if the central subsystem has a virtual center, then we have at least four limit cycles bifurcating from the periodic annulus by linear perturbations, three passing through the three zones and one passing through the two zones. For this, we obtain a normal form for these piecewise Hamiltonian systems and study the number of zeros of its Melnikov functions defined in two and three zones

Cyclicity of Rigid Centers on Center Manifolds of Three-dimensional systems

We work with polynomial three-dimensional rigid differential systems. Using the Lyapunov constants, we obtain lower bounds for the cyclicity of the known rigid centers on their center manifolds. Moreover, we obtain an example of a quadratic rigid center from which is possible to bifurcate 13 limit cycles, which is a new lower bound for three-dimensional quadratic systems.

Analytic Nilpotent Centers on Center Manifolds

Consider analytical three-dimensional differential systems having a singular point at the origin such that its linear part is $y\partial_x-\lambda z\partial_z$ for some $\lambda\neq 0$. The restriction of such systems to a Center Manifold has a nilpotent singular point at the origin. We prove that if the restricted system has an analytic nilpotent center at the origin, with Andreev number $2$, then the three-dimensional system admits a formal inverse Jacobi multiplier. We also prove that nilpotent centers of three-dimensional systems, on analytic center manifolds, are limits of Hopf-type centers. We use these results to solve the center problem for some three-dimensional systems without restricting the system to a parametrization of the center manifold.

Nilpotent Centers in $\mathbb{R}^3$

Consider analytical three-dimensional differential systems having a singular point at the origin such that its linear part is $y\partial_x-λz\partial_z$ for some $λ\neq 0$. The restriction of such systems to a Center Manifold has a nilpotent singular point at the origin. We study the formal integrability and the center problem for those types of singular points in the monodromic case. Our approach do not require polynomial approximations of the Center Manifold in order to study the center problem. As a byproduct, we obtain some useful results for planar $C^r$ systems having a nilpotent singularity. We conclude the work solving the Nilpotent Center Problem for the Generalized Lorenz system and the Hide-Skeldon-Acheson dynamo system.

Limit Cycles Bifurcating from a Periodic Annulus in Discontinuous Planar Piecewise Linear Hamiltonian differential System with Three Zones

In this paper, we study the number of limit cycles that can bifurcating from a periodic annulus in discontinuous planar piecewise linear Hamiltonian differential system with three zones separated by two parallel straight lines. We prove that if the central subsystem, i.e. the system defined between the two parallel lines, has a real center and the others subsystems have centers or saddles, then we have at least three limit cycles that appear after perturbations of periodic annulus. For this, we study the number of zeros of a Melnikov function for piecewise Hamiltonian system and present a normal form for this system in order to simplify the computations.

Monodromy and Dulac's Problem for Piecewise analytical planar vector fields

Consider an analytical function $f:V\subset\mathbb R^2\rightarrow\mathbb R$ having $0$ as its regular value, a switching manifold $\Sigma=f^{-1}(0)$ and a piecewise analytical vector field $X=(X^+,X^-)$, i.e. $X^\pm$ are analytical vector fields defined on $\Sigma^\pm=\{p\in V: \pm f(p)>0\}$. We characterize when the vector field $X$ has a monodromic singular point in $\Sigma$, called $\Sigma$-monodromic singular point. Moreover, under certain conditions, we show that a $\Sigma$-monodromic singular point of $X$ has a neighborhood free of limit cycles.

Monodromic nilpotent singular points with odd Andreev number and the center problem

Given a nilpotent singular point of a planar vector field, its monodromy is associated with its Andreev number $n$. The parity of $n$ determines whether the existence of an inverse integrating factor implies that the singular point is a nilpotent center. For $n$ odd, this is not always true. We give a characterization for a family of systems having Andreev number $n$ such that the center problem cannot be solved by the inverse integrating factor method. Moreover, we study general properties of this family, determining necessary center conditions for every $n$ and solving the center problem in the case $n=3$.

Limit cycles bifurcating from a period annulus in continuous piecewise differential systems with three zones

We study a class of planar continuous piecewise linear vector fields with three zones. Using the Poincaré map and some techniques for proving the existence of limit cycles for smooth differential systems, we prove that this class admits at least two limit cycles that appear by perturbations of a period annulus. Moreover, we describe the bifurcation of the limit cycles for this class through two examples of two-parameter families of piecewise linear vector fields with three zones.

A hybrid symbolic-numerical approach to the center-focus problem

We propose a new hybrid symbolic-numerical approach to the center-focus problem. The method allowed us to obtain center conditions for a three-dimensional system of differential equations, which was previously not possible using traditional, purely symbolic computational techniques.

Stable piecewise polynomial vector fields

Consider in R^2 the semi-planes N={y>0} and S={y<0}$ having as common boundary the straight line D={y=0}$. In N and S are defined polynomial vector fields X and Y, respectively, leading to a discontinuous piecewise polynomial vector field Z=(X,Y). This work pursues the stability and the transition analysis of solutions of Z between N and S, started by Filippov (1988) and Kozlova (1984) and reformulated by Sotomayor-Teixeira (1995) in terms of the regularization method. This method consists in analyzing a one parameter family of continuous vector fields Z_ε$, defined by averaging X and Y. This family approaches Z when the parameter goes to zero. The results of Sotomayor-Teixeira and Sotomayor-Machado (2002) providing conditions on (X,Y) for the regularized vector fields to be structurally stable on planar compact connected regions are extended to discontinuous piecewise polynomial vector fields on R^2. Pertinent genericity results for vector fields satisfying the above stability conditions are also extended to the present case. A procedure for the study of discontinuous piecewise vector fields at infinity through a compactification is proposed here.

Phase portraits for quadratic homogeneous polynomial vector fields on S^2

Let X be a homogeneous polynomial vector field of degree 2 on S^2. We show that if X has at least a non--hyperbolic singularity, then it has no limit cycles. We give necessary and sufficient conditions for determining if a singularity of X on S^2 is a center and we characterize the global phase portrait of X modulo limit cycles. We also study the Hopf bifurcation of X and we reduce the 16^{th} Hilbert's problem restricted to this class of polynomial vector fields to the study of two particular families. Moreover, we present two criteria for studying the nonexistence of periodic orbits for homogeneous polynomial vector fields on S^2 of degree n.

Bifurcations in a class of polycycles involving two saddle-nodes on a Mobius band

In this paper we study the bifurcations of a class of polycycles, called lips, occurring in generic three-parameter smooth families of vector fields on a Möbius band. The lips consists of a set of polycycles formed by two saddle-nodes, one attracting and the other repelling, connected by the hyperbolic separatrices of the saddle-nodes and by orbits interior to both nodal sectors. We determine, under certain genericity hypotheses, the maximum number of limits cycles that may bifurcate from a graphic belonging to the lips and we describe its bifurcation diagram.
