A paradifferential approach for hyperbolic dynamical systems and applications

We develop a paradifferential approach for studying non-smooth hyperbolic dynamics and related non-linear PDE from a microlocal point of view. As an application, we describe the microlocal regularity, i.e the $H^s$ wave-front set for all $s$, of the unstable bundle $E_u$ for an Anosov flow. We also recover rigidity results of Hurder-Katok and Hasselblatt in the Sobolev class rather than Hölder: there is $s_0>0$ such that if $E_u$ has $H^s$ regularity for $s>s_0$ then it is smooth (with $s_0=2$ for volume preserving $3$-dimensional Anosov flows). In the appendix by Guedes Bonthonneau, it is also shown that it can be applied to deal with non-smooth flows and potentials. This work could serve as a toolbox for other applications.

First band of Ruelle resonances for contact Anosov flows in dimension $3$

We show, using semiclassical measures and unstable derivatives, that a smooth vector field $X$ generating a contact Anosov flow on a $3$-dimensional manifold $\mathcal{M}$ has only finitely many Ruelle resonances in the vertical strips $\{ s\in \mathbb{C}\ |\ {\rm Re}(s)\in [-ν_{\min}+ε,-\frac{1}{2}ν_{\max}-ε]\cup [-\frac{1}{2}ν_{\min}+ε,0]\}$ for all $ε>0$, where $0<ν_{\min}\leq ν_{\max}$ are the minimal and maximal expansion rates of the flow (the first strip only makes sense if $ν_{\min}>ν_{\max}/2$). We also show polynomial bounds in $s$ for the resolvent $(-X-s)^{-1}$ as $|{\rm Im}(s)|\to \infty$ in Sobolev spaces, and obtain similar results for cases with a potential. This is a short proof of a particular case of the results by Faure-Tsujii in \cite{FaTs1,FaTs2,FaTs3}, using that $\dim E_u=\dim E_s=1$.

Geodesic stretch, pressure metric and marked length spectrum rigidity

We refine the recent local rigidity result for the marked length spectrum obtained by the first and third author in \cite{Guillarmou-Lefeuvre-18} and give an alternative proof using the geodesic stretch between two Anosov flows and some uniform estimate on the variance appearing in the central limit theorem for Anosov geodesic flows. In turn, we also introduce a new pressure metric on the space of isometry classes, that reduces to the Weil-Peterson metric in the case of Teichmüller space and is related to the works of \cite{McMullen,Bridgeman-Canary-Labourie-Sambarino-15}.

X-Ray Transform in Asymptotically Conic Spaces

In this article, we study the properties of the geodesic X-ray transform for asymptotically Euclidean or conic Riemannian metrics and show injectivity under non-trapping and no conjugate point assumptions. We also define a notion of lens data for such metrics and study the associated inverse problem.

Conformal bootstrap in Liouville Theory

The conformal bootstrap hypothesis is a powerful idea in theoretical physics which has led to spectacular predictions in the context of critical phenomena. It postulates an explicit expression for the correlation functions of a conformal field theory in terms of its 3-point correlation functions. In this paper we give the first mathematical proof of the conformal bootstrap hypothesis in the context of Liouville theory, a 2-dimensional conformal field theory studied since the eighties in theoretical physics and constructed recently by F. David and the three last authors using probability theory. The proof is based on a probabilistic construction of the Virasoro algebra highest weight modules through spectral analysis of an associated self adjoint operator akin to harmonic analysis on non compact Lie groups but in an infinite dimensional setup.

High frequency limits for invariant Ruelle densities

We establish an equidistribution result for Ruelle resonant states on compact locally symmetric spaces of rank one. More precisely, we prove that among the first band Ruelle resonances there is a density one subsequence such that the respective products of resonant and co-resonant states converge weakly to the Liouville measure. We prove this result by establishing an explicit quantum-classical correspondence between eigenspaces of the scalar Laplacian and the resonant states of the first band of Ruelle resonances which also leads to a new description of Patterson-Sullivan distributions.

Fried conjecture in small dimensions

We study the twisted Ruelle zeta function $ζ_X(s)$ for smooth Anosov vector fields $X$ acting on flat vector bundles over smooth compact manifolds. In dimension $3$, we prove Fried conjecture, relating Reidemeister torsion and $ζ_X(0)$. In higher dimensions, we show more generally that $ζ_X(0)$ is locally constant with respect to the vector field $X$ under a spectral condition. As a consequence, we also show Fried conjecture for Anosov flows near the geodesic flow on the unit tangent bundle of hyperbolic $3$-manifolds. This gives the first examples of non-analytic Anosov flows and geodesic flows in variable negative curvature where Fried conjecture holds true.

Eigenvalue bounds for non-self-adjoint Schrödinger operators with non-trapping metrics

We study eigenvalues of non-self-adjoint Schrödinger operators on non-trapping asymptotically conic manifolds of dimension $n\ge 3$. Specifically, we are concerned with the following two types of estimates. The first one deals with Keller type bounds on individual eigenvalues of the Schrödinger operator with a complex potential in terms of the $L^p$-norm of the potential, while the second one is a Lieb-Thirring type bound controlling sums of powers of eigenvalues in terms of the $L^p$-norm of the potential. We extend the results of Frank (2011), Frank-Sabin (2017), and Frank-Simon (2017) on the Keller and Lieb-Thirring type bounds from the case of Euclidean spaces to that of non-trapping asymptotically conic manifolds. In particular, our results are valid for the operator $Δ_g+V$ on $\mathbb{R}^n$ with $g$ being a non-trapping compactly supported (or suitably short range) perturbation of the Euclidean metric and $V\in L^p$ complex valued.

Polyakov's formulation of $2d$ bosonic string theory

Using probabilistic methods, we first define Liouville quantum field theory on Riemann surfaces of genus $\mathbf{g}\geq 2$ and show that it is a conformal field theory. We use the partition function of Liouville quantum field theory to give a mathematical sense to Polyakov's partition function of noncritical bosonic string theory \cite{Pol} (also called $2d$ bosonic string theory) and to Liouville quantum gravity. Then we show the convergence of Polyakov's partition function over the moduli space of Riemann surfaces in genus $\mathbf{g}\geq 2$ in the case of $D\leq 1$ boson. This is done by performing a careful analysis of the behaviour of the partition function at the boundary of moduli space. An essential feature of our approach is that it is probabilistic and non perturbative. The interest of our result is twofold. First, to the best of our knowledge, this is the first mathematical result about convergence of string theories. Second, our construction describes conjecturally the scaling limit of higher genus random planar maps weighted by Conformal Field Theories: we make precise conjectures about this statement at the end of the paper.

The marked length spectrum of Anosov manifolds

In all dimensions, we prove that the marked length spectrum of a Riemannian manifold $(M,g)$ with Anosov geodesic flow and non-positive curvature locally determines the metric in the sense that two close enough metrics with the same marked length spectrum are isometric. In addition, we provide a completely new stability estimate quantifying how the marked length spectrum control the distance between the metrics. In dimension $2$ we obtain similar results for general metrics with Anosov geodesic flows. We also solve locally a rigidity conjecture of Croke relating volume and marked length spectrum for the same category of metrics. Finally, by a compactness argument, we show that the set of negatively curved metrics (up to isometry) with the same marked length spectrum and with curvature in a bounded set of $C^\infty$ is finite.

The linearized Calderón problem on complex manifolds

In this note we show that on any compact subdomain of a Kähler manifold that admits sufficiently many global holomorphic functions, the products of harmonic functions form a complete set. This gives a positive answer to the linearized anisotropic Calderón problem on a class of complex manifolds that includes compact subdomains of Stein manifolds and sufficiently small subdomains of Kähler manifolds. Some of these manifolds do not admit limiting Carleman weights, and thus cannot by treated by standard methods for the Calderón problem in higher dimensions. The argument is based on constructing Morse holomorphic functions with approximately prescribed critical points. This extends results of Guillarmou and Tzou (Duke Math. J. 2011) from the case of Riemann surfaces to higher dimensional complex manifolds.

Dynamical zeta functions for Axiom A flows

We show that the Ruelle zeta function of any smooth Axiom A flow with orientable stable/unstable spaces has a meromorphic continuation to the entire complex plane. The proof uses the meromorphic continuation result of [arXiv:1410.5516] together with the work of Conley-Easton and [arXiv:1711.10059] which imply that every basic hyperbolic set can be put into the framework of [arXiv:1410.5516].

Boundary and lens rigidity for non-convex manifolds

We study the boundary and lens rigidity problems on domains without assuming the convexity of the boundary. We show that such rigidities hold when the domain is a simply connected compact Riemannian surface without conjugate points. For the more general class of non-trapping compact Riemannian surfaces with no conjugate points, we show lens rigidity. We also prove the injectivity of the X-ray transform on tensors in a variety of settings with non-convex boundary and, in some situations, allowing a non-empty trapped set.

Classical and quantum resonances for hyperbolic surfaces

For compact and for convex co-compact oriented hyperbolic surfaces, we prove an explicit correspondence between classical Ruelle resonant states and quantum resonant states, except at negative integers where the correspondence involves holomorphic sections of line bundles.
