Some terminal orders on 3-folds

We produce the first known examples of non-trivial terminal local orders in the 3-dimensional case. We exhibit two different constructions. The first produces maximal orders with given toric ramification data. Since toric terminal ramification data in dimension 3 has been classified this produces toric examples. The second construction yields maximal orders ramified on surfaces with Kleinian singularities. These are automatically terminal.

Lie subalgebras of vector fields on curves

We study the subalgebra structure of Krichever-Novikov algebras, which are Lie algebras of vector fields on smooth affine curves. Our main result is that every infinite-dimensional subalgebra of a Krichever-Novikov algebra is isomorphic to a finite-codimensional subalgebra of another Krichever-Novikov algebra. We then present some applications of our main result. First, we show that the universal enveloping algebra of any such infinite-dimensional subalgebra is not noetherian. We then prove that all Krichever-Novikov algebras satisfy the Dixmier property that all their nonzero endomorphisms are automorphisms, except for the Witt algebra of vector fields on the once-punctured affine line. Finally, we provide an explicit classification of the infinite-dimensional subalgebras of the Witt algebra.

Discrete Invariants of Koszul Artin-Schelter Regular Algebras of Dimension four

We compute the superpotentials for known families of Koszul Artin-Schelter regular algebras of dimension four using Magma, and apply Schur-Weyl duality from representation theory to determine the relevant invariants. Through the Borel-Weil theorem, we interpret these invariants as sections of line bundles over partial flag varieties, resulting in geometric invariants that, in some cases, correspond to K3 surfaces. We compute discrete invariants of these geometric invariants and use them to distinguish algebras.

Some components of the moduli space of Koszul Artin-Schelter regular algebras of dimension four

We compute the Hochschild cohomology and the Kodaira spencer map for known families of Koszul Artin-Schelter regular algebras of dimension four. We show that when the Kodaira Spencer map at a point is a surjection, the image of the family is a component of the moduli stack of such algebras, and when the Kodaira Spencer map is a bijection, the map to the moduli stack is generically finite. We use this to identify some components of the moduli stack.

The Basic Theory of Clifford-Bianchi Groups for Hyperbolic n-Space

Let $K$ be a $\mathbb{Q}$-Clifford algebra associated to an $(n-1)$-ary positive definite quadratic form and let $\mathcal{O}$ be a maximal order in $K$. A Clifford-Bianchi group is a group of the form $\operatorname{SL}_2(\mathcal{O})$ with $\mathcal{O}$ as above. The present paper is about the actions of $\operatorname{SL}_2(\mathcal{O})$ acting on hyperbolic space $\mathcal{H}^{n+1}$ via M\"{o}bius transformations $x\mapsto (ax+b)(cx+d)^{-1}$. We develop the general theory of orders exhibiting explicit orders in low dimensions of interest. These include, for example, higher-dimensional analogs of the Hurwitz order. We develop the abstract and computational theory for determining their fundamental domains and generators and relations (higher-dimensional Bianchi-Humbert Theory). We make connections to the classical literature on symmetric spaces and arithmetic groups and provide a proof that these groups are $\mathbb{Z}$-points of a $\mathbb{Z}$-group scheme and are arithmetic subgroups of $\operatorname{SO}_{1,n+1}(\mathbb{R})^{\circ}$ with their M\"{o}bius action. We report on our findings concerning certain Clifford-Bianchi groups acting on $\mathcal{H}^4$, $\mathcal{H}^5$, and $\mathcal{H}^6$ .

A universal sheaf of algebras governing representations of vector fields on quasi-projective varieties

We construct a quasi-coherent sheaf of associative algebras which controls a category of $AV$-modules over a smooth quasi-projective variety. We establish a local structure theorem, proving that in \'etale charts these associative algebras decompose into a tensor product of the algebra of differential operators and the universal enveloping algebra of the Lie algebra of power series vector fields vanishing at the origin.

Terminal orders on arithmetic surfaces

The local structure of terminal Brauer classes on arithmetic surfaces were classified in [CI21] generalising the classification on geometric surfaces carried out in [CI05]. Part of the interest in these classifications is that it enables the minimal model program to be applied to the noncommutative setting of orders on surfaces. In this paper, we give etale local structure theorems for terminal orders on arithemtic surfaces, at least when the degree is a prime p >5. This generalises the structure theorem given in the geometric case. They can all be explicitly constructed as algebras of matrices over symbols. From this description one sees that such terminal orders all have global dimension two, thus generalising the fact that terminal (commutative) surfaces are smooth and hence homologically regular.

A differential analogue of the wild automorphism conjecture

A differential analogue of the conjecture of Reichstein, Rogalski, and Zhang in algebraic dynamics is here established: if $X$ is a projective variety over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero which admits a global algebraic vector field $v:X\to TX$ such that $(X,v)$ has no proper invariant subvarieties then $X$ is an abelian variety. Vector fields on abelian varieties with this property are also examined. Some of the analysis works in the more general context of $D$-varieties over differential fields: projective $D$-varieties without proper $D$-subvarieties are homogeneous. But the main theorem does not extend: an example of a $D$-variety structure on the projective line without proper $D$-subvarieties is given.

Sets of mutually orthogoval projective and affine planes

A pair of planes, both projective or both affine, of the same order and on the same pointset are orthogoval if each line of one plane intersects each line of the other plane in at most two points. In this paper we prove new constructions for sets of mutually orthogoval planes, both projective and affine, and review known results that are equivalent to sets of more than two mutually orthogoval planes. We also discuss the connection between sets of mutually orthogoval planes and covering arrays.

Matrix Factorizations of the discriminant of $S_n$

Consider the symmetric group $S_n$ acting as a reflection group on the polynomial ring $k[x_1, \ldots, x_n]$, where $k$ is a field such that Char$(k)$ does not divide $n!$. We use Higher Specht polynomials to construct matrix factorizations of the discriminant of this group action: these matrix factorizations are indexed by partitions of $n$ and respect the decomposition of the coinvariant algebra into isotypical components. The maximal Cohen-Macaulay modules associated to these matrix factorizations give rise to a noncommutative resolution of the discriminant and they correspond to the nontrivial irreducible representations of $S_n$. All our constructions are implemented in Macaulay2 and we provide several examples. We also discuss extensions of these results to Young subgroups of $S_n$.

On stacky surfaces and noncommutative surfaces

Let $\mathbf{k}$ be an algebraically closed field of characteristic $\geq 7$ or zero. Let $\mathcal{A}$ be a tame order of global dimension $2$ over a normal surface $X$ over $\mathbf{k}$ such that $\operatorname{Z}(\mathcal{A})=\mathcal{O}_{X}$ is locally a direct summand of $\mathcal{A}$. We prove that there is a $\mu_N$-gerbe $\mathcal{X}$ over a smooth tame algebraic stack whose generic stabilizer is trivial, with coarse space $X$ such that the category of 1-twisted coherent sheaves on $\mathcal{X}$ is equivalent to the category of coherent sheaves of modules on $\mathcal{A}$. Moreover, the stack $\mathcal{X}$ is constructed explicitly through a sequence of root stacks, canonical stacks, and gerbes. This extends results of Reiten and Van den Bergh to finite characteristic and the global situation. As applications, in characteristic $0$ we prove that such orders are geometric noncommutative schemes in the sense of Orlov, and we study relations with Hochschild cohomology and Connes' convolution algebra.

Definite orthogonal modular forms: Computations, Excursions and Discoveries

We consider spaces of modular forms attached to definite orthogonal groups of low even rank and nontrivial level, equipped with Hecke operators defined by Kneser neighbours. After reviewing algorithms to compute with these spaces, we investigate endoscopy using theta series and a theorem of Rallis. Along the way, we exhibit many examples and pose several conjectures. As a first application, we express counts of Kneser neighbours in terms of coefficients of classical or Siegel modular forms, complementing work of Chenevier-Lannes. As a second application, we prove new instances of Eisenstein congruences of Ramanujan and Kurokawa-Mizumoto type.

The minimal model program for arithmetic surfaces enriched by a Brauer class

We examine the noncommutative minimal model program for orders on arithmetic surfaces, or equivalently, arithmetic surfaces enriched by a Brauer class $\beta$. When $\beta$ has prime index $p>5$, we show the classical theory extends with analogues of existence of terminal resolutions, Castelnuovo contraction and Zariski factorisation. We also classify $\beta$-terminal surfaces and Castelnuovo contractions, and discover new unexpected behaviour.

Explicit coverings of families of elliptic surfaces by squares of curves

We show that, for each $n>0$, there is a family of elliptic surfaces which are covered by the square of a curve of genus $2n+1$, and whose Hodge structures have an action by ${\mathbb Q}(\sqrt{-n})$. By considering the case $n=3$, we show that one particular family of K3 surfaces are covered by the square of genus $7$. Using this, we construct a correspondence between the square of a curve of genus $7$ and a general K3 surface in ${\mathbb P}^4$ with $15$ ordinary double points up to isogeny. This gives an explicit proof of the Kuga-Satake-Deligne correspondence for these K3 surfaces and any K3 surfaces isogenous to them, and further, a proof of the Hodge conjecture for the squares of these surfaces. We conclude that the motives of these surfaces are Kimura-finite. Our analysis gives a birational equivalence between a moduli space of curves with additional data and the moduli space of these K3 surfaces with a specific elliptic fibration.

McKay quivers and Lusztig algebras of some finite groups

We are interested in the McKay quiver $\Gamma(G)$ and skew group rings $A*G$, where $G$ is a finite subgroup of $\mathrm{GL}(V)$, where $V$ is a finite dimensional vector space over a field $K$, and $A$ is a $K-G$-algebra. These skew group rings appear in Auslander's version of the McKay correspondence. In the first part of this paper we consider complex reflection groups $G \subseteq \mathrm{GL}(V)$ and find a combinatorial method, making use of Young diagrams, to construct the McKay quivers for the groups $G(r,p,n)$. We first look at the case $G(1,1,n)$, which is isomorphic to the symmetric group $S_n$, followed by $G(r,1,n)$ for $r >1$. Then, using Clifford theory, we can determine the McKay quiver for any $G(r,p,n)$ and thus for all finite irreducible complex reflection groups up to finitely many exceptions. In the second part of the paper we consider a more conceptual approach to McKay quivers of arbitrary finite groups: we define the Lusztig algebra $\widetilde A(G)$ of a finite group $G \subseteq \mathrm{GL}(V)$, which is Morita equivalent to the skew group ring $A*G$. This description gives us an embedding of the basic algebra Morita equivalent to $A*G$ into a matrix algebra over $A$.

Crepant resolutions of double covers: On the Cynk-Hulek criterion for crepant resolutions of double cover

A collection $S = \{D_1,\ldots, D_n\}$ of divisors in a smooth variety $X$ is an {\em arrangement} if intersections of all subsets of $S$ are smooth. We show that a double cover of $X$ ramified on an arrangement has a crepant resolution under additional hypotheses. Namely, we assume that all intersection components that change the canonical divisor when blown up satisfy are {\em splayed}, a property of the tangent spaces of the components first studied by Faber. This strengthens a result of Cynk and Hulek, which requires a stronger hypothesis on the intersection components. Further, we study the singular subscheme of the union of the divisors in $S$ and prove that it has a primary decomposition where the primary components are supported on exactly the subvarieties which are blown up in the course of constructing the crepant resolution of the double cover.

$\mathcal{A}\mathcal{V}$ modules of finite type on affine space

We study the category of modules admitting compatible actions of the Lie algebra $\mathcal{V}$ of vector fields on an affine space and the algebra $\mathcal{A}$ of polynomial functions. We show that modules in this category which are finitely generated over $\mathcal{A}$, are free. We also show that this pair of compatible actions is equivalent to commuting actions of the algebra of differential operators and the Lie algebra of vector fields vanishing at the origin. This allows us to construct explicit realizations of such modules as gauge modules.
