Liquid Helium Cryogenic TEM below 1 Å

Next-generation cryogenic transmission electron microscopes (TEM) aim to achieve high-resolution imaging at ultracold sample temperatures (< 90 K) and over extended hold times. Lower temperatures enable atomic-scale characterization with improved beam and dose resilience for organic specimens and access to emergent electronic phases in quantum materials. Side-entry liquid helium cooling stages presently lack the mechanical and thermal stability required to support sub-Angstrom information transfer in modern TEM. Here we demonstrate sub-Angstrom atomic imaging TEM with a side-entry stage at specimen temperatures down to ~20K and with low stage drift and stable hold times.

HIP: Model-Agnostic Hypergraph Influence Prediction via Distance-Centrality Fusion and Neural ODEs

Predicting user influence in social networks is a critical problem, and hypergraphs, as a prevalent higher-order modeling approach, provide new perspectives for this task. However, the absence of explicit cascade or infection probability data makes it particularly challenging to infer influence in hypergraphs. To address this, we introduce HIP, a unified and model-independent framework for influence prediction without knowing the underlying spreading model. HIP fuses multi-dimensional centrality indicators with a temporally reinterpreted distance matrix to effectively represent node-level diffusion capacity in the absence of observable spreading. These representations are further processed through a multi-hop Hypergraph Neural Network (HNN) to capture complex higher-order structural dependencies, while temporal correlations are modeled using a hybrid module that combines Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) networks and Neural Ordinary Differential Equations (Neural ODEs). Notably, HIP is inherently modular: substituting the standard HGNN with the advanced DPHGNN, and the LSTM with xLSTM, yields similarly strong performance, showcasing its architectural generality and robustness. Empirical evaluations across 14 real-world hypergraph datasets demonstrate that HIP consistently surpasses existing baselines in prediction accuracy, resilience, and identification of top influencers, all without relying on any diffusion trajectories or prior knowledge of the spreading model. These findings underline HIP's effectiveness and adaptability as a general-purpose solution for influence prediction in complex hypergraph environments.

The invariance and non-decreasing expectation of an evolutionary path characteristic under weak selection

Fisher's fundamental theorem of natural selection states that the rate of change in a population's mean fitness equals its additive genetic variance in fitness. This implies that mean fitness should not decline in a constant environment, thereby positioning it as an indicator of evolutionary progression. However, this theorem has been shown to lack universality. Here, we derive the Fokker-Planck equation that describes the stochastic frequency dynamics of two phenotypes in a large population under weak selection and genetic drift, and develop a path integral formulation that characterizes the probability density of phenotypic frequency. Our formulation identifies that, under both selection and genetic drift, the ratio of the probability density of adaptive traits (e.g., phenotypic frequency) to that under neutrality represents a time-invariant evolutionary path characteristic. This ratio quantifies the cumulative effect of directional selection on the evolutionary process compared to genetic drift. Importantly, the expected value of this ratio does not decline over time. In the presence of fitness variance, the effect of directional selection on expected phenotypic changes accumulates over time, diverging progressively from paths shaped solely by genetic drift. The expectation of this time-invariant ratio thus offers a robust and informative alternative to mean fitness as a measure of progression in stochastic evolutionary dynamics.

DACA-Net: A Degradation-Aware Conditional Diffusion Network for Underwater Image Enhancement

Underwater images typically suffer from severe colour distortions, low visibility, and reduced structural clarity due to complex optical effects such as scattering and absorption, which greatly degrade their visual quality and limit the performance of downstream visual perception tasks. Existing enhancement methods often struggle to adaptively handle diverse degradation conditions and fail to leverage underwater-specific physical priors effectively. In this paper, we propose a degradation-aware conditional diffusion model to enhance underwater images adaptively and robustly. Given a degraded underwater image as input, we first predict its degradation level using a lightweight dual-stream convolutional network, generating a continuous degradation score as semantic guidance. Based on this score, we introduce a novel conditional diffusion-based restoration network with a Swin UNet backbone, enabling adaptive noise scheduling and hierarchical feature refinement. To incorporate underwater-specific physical priors, we further propose a degradation-guided adaptive feature fusion module and a hybrid loss function that combines perceptual consistency, histogram matching, and feature-level contrast. Comprehensive experiments on benchmark datasets demonstrate that our method effectively restores underwater images with superior colour fidelity, perceptual quality, and structural details. Compared with SOTA approaches, our framework achieves significant improvements in both quantitative metrics and qualitative visual assessments.

Enabling Efficient Transaction Processing on CXL-Based Memory Sharing

Transaction processing systems are the crux for modern data-center applications, yet current multi-node systems are slow due to network overheads. This paper advocates for Compute Express Link (CXL) as a network alternative, which enables low-latency and cache-coherent shared memory accesses. However, directly adopting standard CXL primitives leads to performance degradation due to the high cost of maintaining cross-node cache coherence. To address the CXL challenges, this paper introduces CtXnL, a software-hardware co-designed system that implements a novel hybrid coherence primitive tailored to the loosely coherent nature of transactional data. The core innovation of CtXnL is empowering transaction system developers with the ability to selectively achieve data coherence. Our evaluations on OLTP workloads demonstrate that CtXnL enhances performance, outperforming current network-based systems and achieves with up to 2.08x greater throughput than vanilla CXL memory sharing architectures across universal transaction processing policies.

Quantum phase transition in a double quantum dot Josephson junction driven by electron-electron interactions

In this work, we employ a surrogate BCS model with discrete energy levels to investigate a hybrid system comprising two quantum dots (QD1 and QD2), where QD1 is tunnel-coupled to two superconducting leads. Through exact diagonalization of this system, we obtain numerically exact solutions that enable rigorous computation of key physical quantities. Our analysis reveals a rich phase diagram featuring multiple controllable phase transitions mediated by quantum dot interactions. Specifically, the system first undergoes an initial phase transition when tuning QD2's interaction strength while maintaining QD1 in the non-interacting regime. Subsequent adjustment of QD1's interaction induces a secondary phase transition, followed by a third transition arising from inter-dot coupling modulation. Furthermore, we demonstrate that parallel magnetic field application can drive reversible ferromagnetic-antiferromagnetic phase transitions under specific parameter conditions. Finally, we report the emergence of non-local magnetization phenomena when subjecting QD1 to weak magnetic fields. And our results demonstrate that the orientation of nonlocal magnetization can be precisely manipulated through systematic adjustment of the on-site interaction strength $U_2$ in QD2.

Quantum Resistor-Capacitor Circuit with two Majorana Bound States

In this paper, we derive the equations of motion for a system composed of a spinless quantum dot coupled to two normal leads and two Majorana bound states (MBSs), utilizing the auxiliary-mode expansion method and the nonequilibrium Green function technique. Subsequently, we use these equations to analyze the linear conductance, adiabatic linear capacitance, and adiabatic linear relaxation resistance of the system. We find that when the phase difference between the two MBSs is an integer multiple of $π$, the MBSs enter the zero mode, leading to the complete suppression of the linear relaxation resistance. In this case, the relaxation resistance is highly sensitive to the MBSs modes. On the other hand, when the phase difference is not an integer multiple of $π$, the linear conductance is fully suppressed. Furthermore, the linear relaxation resistance remains completely suppressed, even when the MBSs are not in the zero mode, and the system loses its sensitivity to the MBSs modes.

Real Space Visualization of Order-Disorder Transition in BaTiO3

Ferroelectricity in BaTiO3 was observed nearly eighty years ago, but the mechanism underlying its ferroelectric-paraelectric phase transition remains elusive. The order-disorder transition has been recognized as playing a critical role, however, the precise nature of the order parameter still remains under scrutiny, including the local dipole direction and the correlations above and below the Curie temperature. Using in situ scanning transmission electron microscopy, we directly map polar displacements in BaTiO3 across the ferroelectric-paraelectric phase transition, providing atomistic insights into a order-disorder mechanism. Atomic tracking reveals finite polar Ti displacements in the paraelectric phase where they manifest as random polar nanoregions. The displacements align along <111> direction in both the ferroelectric and paraelectric phases. The paraelectric-ferroelectric transition emerges from real-space correlations of the <111> polar Ti displacements. Our direct visualizations provides atomic insights into the order-disorder mechanism in the ferroelectric-paraelectric transition of BaTiO3.

Communication Efficient Multiparty Private Set Intersection from Multi-Point Sequential OPRF

Multiparty private set intersection (MPSI) allows multiple participants to compute the intersection of their locally owned data sets without revealing them. MPSI protocols can be categorized based on the network topology of nodes, with the star, mesh, and ring topologies being the primary types, respectively. Given that star and mesh topologies dominate current implementations, most existing MPSI protocols are based on these two topologies. However, star-topology MPSI protocols suffer from high leader node load, while mesh topology protocols suffer from high communication complexity and overhead. In this paper, we first propose a multi-point sequential oblivious pseudorandom function (MP-SOPRF) in a multi-party setting. Based on MP-SOPRF, we then develop an MPSI protocol with a ring topology, addressing the challenges of communication and computational overhead in existing protocols. We prove that our MPSI protocol is semi-honest secure under the Hamming correlation robustness assumption. Our experiments demonstrate that our MPSI protocol outperforms state-of-the-art protocols, achieving a reduction of 74.8% in communication and a 6% to 287% improvement in computational efficiency.

Detection of two TeV gamma-ray outbursts from NGC 1275 by LHAASO

The Water Cherenkov Detector Array (WCDA) is one of the components of Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO) and can monitor any sources over two-thirds of the sky for up to 7 hours per day with >98\% duty cycle. In this work, we report the detection of two outbursts of the Fanaroff-Riley I radio galaxy NGC 1275 that were detected by LHAASO-WCDA between November 2022 and January 2023 with statistical significance of 5.2~$σ$ and 8.3~$σ$. The observed spectral energy distribution in the range from 500 GeV to 3 TeV is fitted by a power-law with a best-fit spectral index of $α=-3.37\pm0.52$ and $-3.35\pm0.29$, respectively. The outburst flux above 0.5~TeV was ($4.55\pm 4.21)\times~10^{-11}~\rm cm^{-2}~s^{-1}$ and ($3.45\pm 1.78)\times~10^{-11}~\rm cm^{-2}~s^{-1}$, corresponding to 60\%, 45\% of Crab Nebula flux. Variation analysis reveals the variability time-scale of days at the TeV energy band. A simple test by one-zone synchrotron self-Compton model reproduces the data in the gamma-ray band well.

Ultrahigh room-temperature hole conductivity in a perovskite cuprate with vanishing electron-correlation

Electron-correlated two-dimensional (2D) cuprates have been extensively studied since the discovery of high-Tc superconductivity, in contrast, the three-dimensional (3D) counterpart perovskite cuprates remain largely unexplored due to their chemical instability and synthesis challenges. Herein, we develop an efficient two-step approach that combines symmetry-selective growth and topotactic oxidization to synthesize high-quality perovskite LaCuO3 films, and furthermore reveal its exotic electronic states. The compressively strained LaCuO3 films exhibit an unexpected ultrahigh p-type conductivity of ~1.5*10^5 S/cm with a hole mobility of ~30 cm2 V-1 s-1 at room-temperature. X-ray absorption spectra and first-principles calculations unveil a ligand-hole state of p-d hybridization with degenerate eg orbitals and light effective mass, indicating nearly-vanishing electron-correlation. These features contrast sharply with 2D cuprates and offer physical insights into the design of high-performance electronic devices.

Every Sample Matters: Leveraging Mixture-of-Experts and High-Quality Data for Efficient and Accurate Code LLM

Recent advancements in code large language models (LLMs) have demonstrated remarkable capabilities in code generation and understanding. It is still challenging to build a code LLM with comprehensive performance yet ultimate efficiency. Many attempts have been released in the open source community to break the trade-off between performance and efficiency, such as the Qwen Coder series and the DeepSeek Coder series. This paper introduces yet another attempt in this area, namely Ling-Coder-Lite. We leverage the efficient Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) architecture along with a set of high-quality data curation methods (especially those based on program analytics) to build an efficient yet powerful code LLM. Ling-Coder-Lite exhibits on-par performance on 12 representative coding benchmarks compared to state-of-the-art models of similar size, such as Qwen2.5-Coder-7B and DeepSeek-Coder-V2-Lite, while offering competitive latency and throughput. In practice, we achieve a 50\% reduction in deployment resources compared to the similar-sized dense model without performance loss. To facilitate further research and development in this area, we open-source our models as well as a substantial portion of high-quality data for the annealing and post-training stages. Wearable intelligent throat enables natural speech in stroke patients with dysarthria

Wearable silent speech systems hold significant potential for restoring communication in patients with speech impairments. However, seamless, coherent speech remains elusive, and clinical efficacy is still unproven. Here, we present an AI-driven intelligent throat (IT) system that integrates throat muscle vibrations and carotid pulse signal sensors with large language model (LLM) processing to enable fluent, emotionally expressive communication. The system utilizes ultrasensitive textile strain sensors to capture high-quality signals from the neck area and supports token-level processing for real-time, continuous speech decoding, enabling seamless, delay-free communication. In tests with five stroke patients with dysarthria, IT's LLM agents intelligently corrected token errors and enriched sentence-level emotional and logical coherence, achieving low error rates (4.2% word error rate, 2.9% sentence error rate) and a 55% increase in user satisfaction. This work establishes a portable, intuitive communication platform for patients with dysarthria with the potential to be applied broadly across different neurological conditions and in multi-language support systems.

Deep Incremental Model Informed Reinforcement Learning for Continuous Robotic Control

Model-based reinforcement learning attempts to use an available or learned model to improve the data efficiency of reinforcement learning. This work proposes a one-step lookback approach that jointly learns the deep incremental model and the policy to realize the sample-efficient continuous robotic control, wherein the control-theoretical knowledge is utilized to decrease the model learning difficulty and facilitate efficient training. Specifically, we use one-step backward data to facilitate the deep incremental model, an alternative structured representation of the robotic evolution model, that accurately predicts the robotic movement but with low sample complexity. This is because the formulated deep incremental model degrades the model learning difficulty into a parametric matrix learning problem, which is especially favourable to high-dimensional robotic applications. The imagined data from the learned deep incremental model is used to supplement training data to enhance the sample efficiency. Comparative numerical simulations on benchmark continuous robotics control problems are conducted to validate the efficiency of our proposed one-step lookback approach.

Telegraph flux noise induced beating Ramsey fringe in transmon qubits

Ramsey oscillations typically exhibit an exponential decay envelope due to environmental noise. However, recent experiments have observed nonmonotonic Ramsey fringes characterized by beating patterns, which deviate from the standard behavior. These beating patterns have primarily been attributed to charge-noise fluctuations. In this paper, we investigate the flux-noise origin of these nonmonotonic Ramsey fringes in frequency-tunable transmon qubits. We develop a random telegraph noise (RTN) model to simulate the impact of telegraph-like flux-noise sources on Ramsey oscillations. Our simulations demonstrate that strong flux-RTN sources can induce beating patterns in the Ramsey fringes, showing excellent agreement with experimental observations in transmon qubits influenced by electronic environment-induced flux-noise. Our findings provide valuable insights into the role of flux-noise in qubit decoherence and underscore the importance of considering flux-noise RTN when analyzing nonmonotonic Ramsey fringes.

Neuromorphic spatiotemporal optical flow: Enabling ultrafast visual perception beyond human capabilities

Optical flow, inspired by the mechanisms of biological visual systems, calculates spatial motion vectors within visual scenes that are necessary for enabling robotics to excel in complex and dynamic working environments. However, current optical flow algorithms, despite human-competitive task performance on benchmark datasets, remain constrained by unacceptable time delays (~0.6 seconds per inference, 4X human processing speed) in practical deployment. Here, we introduce a neuromorphic optical flow approach that addresses delay bottlenecks by encoding temporal information directly in a synaptic transistor array to assist spatial motion analysis. Compared to conventional spatial-only optical flow methods, our spatiotemporal neuromorphic optical flow offers the spatial-temporal consistency of motion information, rapidly identifying regions of interest in as little as 1-2 ms using the temporal motion cues derived from the embedded temporal information in the two-dimensional floating gate synaptic transistors. Thus, the visual input can be selectively filtered to achieve faster velocity calculations and various task execution. At the hardware level, due to the atomically sharp interfaces between distinct functional layers in two-dimensional van der Waals heterostructures, the synaptic transistor offers high-frequency response (~100 μs), robust non-volatility (>10000 s), and excellent endurance (>8000 cycles), enabling robust visual processing. In software benchmarks, our system outperforms state-of-the-art algorithms with a 400% speedup, frequently surpassing human-level performance while maintaining or enhancing accuracy by utilizing the temporal priors provided by the embedded temporal information.
