ARES: Scalable and Practical Gradient Inversion Attack in Federated Learning through Activation Recovery

Federated Learning (FL) enables collaborative model training by sharing model updates instead of raw data, aiming to protect user privacy. However, recent studies reveal that these shared updates can inadvertently leak sensitive training data through gradient inversion attacks (GIAs). Among them, active GIAs are particularly powerful, enabling high-fidelity reconstruction of individual samples even under large batch sizes. Nevertheless, existing approaches often require architectural modifications, which limit their practical applicability. In this work, we bridge this gap by introducing the Activation REcovery via Sparse inversion (ARES) attack, an active GIA designed to reconstruct training samples from large training batches without requiring architectural modifications. Specifically, we formulate the recovery problem as a noisy sparse recovery task and solve it using the generalized Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator (Lasso). To extend the attack to multi-sample recovery, ARES incorporates the imprint method to disentangle activations, enabling scalable per-sample reconstruction. We further establish the expected recovery rate and derive an upper bound on the reconstruction error, providing theoretical guarantees for the ARES attack. Extensive experiments on CNNs and MLPs demonstrate that ARES achieves high-fidelity reconstruction across diverse datasets, significantly outperforming prior GIAs under large batch sizes and realistic FL settings. Our results highlight that intermediate activations pose a serious and underestimated privacy risk in FL, underscoring the urgent need for stronger defenses.

Joint Optimization of Storage and Loading for High-Performance 3D Point Cloud Data Processing

With the rapid development of computer vision and deep learning, significant advancements have been made in 3D vision, partic- ularly in autonomous driving, robotic perception, and augmented reality. 3D point cloud data, as a crucial representation of 3D information, has gained widespread attention. However, the vast scale and complexity of point cloud data present significant chal- lenges for loading and processing and traditional algorithms struggle to handle large-scale datasets. The diversity of storage formats for point cloud datasets (e.g., PLY, XYZ, BIN) adds complexity to data handling and results in inefficiencies in data preparation. Al- though binary formats like BIN and NPY have been used to speed up data access, they still do not fully address the time-consuming data loading and processing phase. To overcome these challenges, we propose the .PcRecord format, a unified data storage solution designed to reduce the storage occupation and accelerate the processing of point cloud data. We also introduce a high-performance data processing pipeline equipped with multiple modules. By leveraging a multi-stage parallel pipeline architecture, our system optimizes the use of computational resources, significantly improving processing speed and efficiency. This paper details the im- plementation of this system and demonstrates its effectiveness in addressing the challenges of handling large-scale point cloud datasets. On average, our system achieves performance improvements of 6.61x (ModelNet40), 2.69x (S3DIS), 2.23x (ShapeNet), 3.09x (Kitti), 8.07x (SUN RGB-D), and 5.67x (ScanNet) with GPU and 6.9x, 1.88x, 1.29x, 2.28x, 25.4x, and 19.3x with Ascend.

Discovery of a millisecond pulsar with a CO white dwarf companion

We report the discovery and characterization of PSR J1810-0623, a fully recycled millisecond pulsar with a spin period of 4.55 ms, discovered with the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST) and followed up with FAST and the Green Bank Telescope (GBT). A phase-connected timing solution spanning over 6.5 years reveals a 15.4-day binary orbit with extremely low eccentricity (about 1.5E-5). Assuming a neutron star mass of 1.4 Msun, the inferred companion median mass (about 0.64 Msun) is consistent with a carbon-oxygen white dwarf, indicating an evolutionary origin in an intermediate mass Xray binary. The system's properties closely resemble those of other massive white dwarf binaries thought to form via Case A Roche lobe overflow, suggesting a prolonged accretion phase during which the neutron star was efficiently recycled. Polarimetric analysis of FAST data yields a moderate degree of linear polarization and a rotation measure of 86.6 pm 0.6 rad/m^2, offering constraints on the Galactic magnetic field. The inferred characteristic age (about 32 Gyr) and low surface magnetic field (about 1E8 G) indicate a highly recycled pulsar. Proper-motion measurements imply a modest transverse velocity, consistent with those of recycled millisecond pulsars in the Galactic field. Although the proximity of the globular cluster Pal 7 raises the possibility of a dynamical origin, discrepancies in dispersion measure and proper motion argue against a physical association. PSR J1810-0623 adds to the rare class of long-orbital period MSP-COWD systems and provides a valuable laboratory for studying pulsar recycling, binary evolution, and Galactic structure.

Conversational Speech Reveals Structural Robustness Failures in SpeechLLM Backbones

LLMs serve as the backbone in SpeechLLMs, yet their behavior on spontaneous conversational input remains poorly understood. Conversational speech contains pervasive disfluencies -- interjections, edits, and parentheticals -- that are rare in the written corpora used for pre-training. Because gold disfluency removal is a deletion-only task, it serves as a controlled probe to determine whether a model performs faithful structural repair or biased reinterpretation. Using the DRES evaluation framework, we evaluate proprietary and open-source LLMs across architectures and scales. We show that model performance clusters into stable precision-recall regimes reflecting distinct editing policies. Notably, reasoning models systematically over-delete fluent content, revealing a bias toward semantic abstraction over structural fidelity. While fine-tuning achieves SOTA results, it harms generalization. Our findings demonstrate that robustness to speech is shaped by specific training objectives.

Multi-Loss Learning for Speech Emotion Recognition with Energy-Adaptive Mixup and Frame-Level Attention

Speech emotion recognition (SER) is an important technology in human-computer interaction. However, achieving high performance is challenging due to emotional complexity and scarce annotated data. To tackle these challenges, we propose a multi-loss learning (MLL) framework integrating an energy-adaptive mixup (EAM) method and a frame-level attention module (FLAM). The EAM method leverages SNR-based augmentation to generate diverse speech samples capturing subtle emotional variations. FLAM enhances frame-level feature extraction for multi-frame emotional cues. Our MLL strategy combines Kullback-Leibler divergence, focal, center, and supervised contrastive loss to optimize learning, address class imbalance, and improve feature separability. We evaluate our method on four widely used SER datasets: IEMOCAP, MSP-IMPROV, RAVDESS, and SAVEE. The results demonstrate our method achieves state-of-the-art performance, suggesting its effectiveness and robustness.

Internal Safety Collapse in Frontier Large Language Models

This work identifies a critical failure mode in frontier large language models (LLMs), which we term Internal Safety Collapse (ISC): under certain task conditions, models enter a state in which they continuously generate harmful content while executing otherwise benign tasks. We introduce TVD (Task, Validator, Data), a framework that triggers ISC through domain tasks where generating harmful content is the only valid completion, and construct ISC-Bench containing 53 scenarios across 8 professional disciplines. Evaluated on JailbreakBench, three representative scenarios yield worst-case safety failure rates averaging 95.3% across four frontier LLMs (including GPT-5.2 and Claude Sonnet 4.5), substantially exceeding standard jailbreak attacks. Frontier models are more vulnerable than earlier LLMs: the very capabilities that enable complex task execution become liabilities when tasks intrinsically involve harmful content. This reveals a growing attack surface: almost every professional domain uses tools that process sensitive data, and each new dual-use tool automatically expands this vulnerability--even without any deliberate attack. Despite substantial alignment efforts, frontier LLMs retain inherently unsafe internal capabilities: alignment reshapes observable outputs but does not eliminate the underlying risk profile. These findings underscore the need for caution when deploying LLMs in high-stakes settings. Source code: https://github.com/wuyoscar/ISC-Bench

Neural Discrimination-Prompted Transformers for Efficient UHD Image Restoration and Enhancement

We propose a simple yet effective UHDPromer, a neural discrimination-prompted Transformer, for Ultra-High-Definition (UHD) image restoration and enhancement. Our UHDPromer is inspired by an interesting observation that there implicitly exist neural differences between high-resolution and low-resolution features, and exploring such differences can facilitate low-resolution feature representation. To this end, we first introduce Neural Discrimination Priors (NDP) to measure the differences and then integrate NDP into the proposed Neural Discrimination-Prompted Attention (NDPA) and Neural Discrimination-Prompted Network (NDPN). The proposed NDPA re-formulates the attention by incorporating NDP to globally perceive useful discrimination information, while the NDPN explores a continuous gating mechanism guided by NDP to selectively permit the passage of beneficial content. To enhance the quality of restored images, we propose a super-resolution-guided reconstruction approach, which is guided by super-resolving low-resolution features to facilitate final UHD image restoration. Experiments show that UHDPromer achieves the best computational efficiency while still maintaining state-of-the-art performance on $3$ UHD image restoration and enhancement tasks, including low-light image enhancement, image dehazing, and image deblurring. The source codes and pre-trained models will be made available at https://github.com/supersupercong/uhdpromer.

Nonparametric Teaching of Attention Learners

Attention learners, neural networks built on the attention mechanism, e.g., transformers, excel at learning the implicit relationships that relate sequences to their corresponding properties, e.g., mapping a given sequence of tokens to the probability of the next token. However, the learning process tends to be costly. To address this, we present a novel paradigm named Attention Neural Teaching (AtteNT) that reinterprets the learning process through a nonparametric teaching perspective. Specifically, the latter provides a theoretical framework for teaching mappings that are implicitly defined (i.e., nonparametric) via example selection. Such an implicit mapping is embodied through a dense set of sequence-property pairs, with the AtteNT teacher selecting a subset to accelerate convergence in attention learner training. By analytically investigating the role of attention on parameter-based gradient descent during training, and recasting the evolution of attention learners, shaped by parameter updates, through functional gradient descent in nonparametric teaching, we show for the first time that teaching attention learners is consistent with teaching importance-adaptive nonparametric learners. These new findings readily commit AtteNT to enhancing learning efficiency of attention learners. Specifically, we observe training time reductions of 13.01% for LLMs and 20.58% for ViTs, spanning both fine-tuning and training-from-scratch regimes. Crucially, these gains are achieved without compromising accuracy; in fact, performance is consistently preserved and often enhanced across a diverse set of downstream tasks.

OptiLeak: Efficient Prompt Reconstruction via Reinforcement Learning in Multi-tenant LLM Services

Multi-tenant LLM serving frameworks widely adopt shared Key-Value caches to enhance efficiency. However, this creates side-channel vulnerabilities enabling prompt leakage attacks. Prior studies identified these attack surfaces yet focused on expanding attack vectors rather than optimizing attack performance, reporting impractically high attack costs that underestimate the true privacy risk. We propose OptiLeak, a reinforcement learning-enhanced framework that maximizes prompt reconstruction efficiency through two-stage fine-tuning. Our key insight is that domain-specific ``hard tokens'' -- terms difficult to predict yet carrying sensitive information -- can be automatically identified via likelihood ranking and used to construct preference pairs for Direct Preference Optimization, eliminating manual annotation. This enables effective preference alignment while avoiding the overfitting issues of extended supervised fine-tuning. Evaluated on three benchmarks spanning medical and financial domains, OptiLeak achieves up to $12.48\times$ reduction in average requests per token compared to baseline approaches, with consistent improvements across model scales from 3B to 14B parameters. Our findings demonstrate that cache-based prompt leakage poses a more severe threat than previously reported, underscoring the need for robust cache isolation in production deployments.

MotionHint: Self-Supervised Monocular Visual Odometry with Motion Constraints

We present a novel self-supervised algorithm named MotionHint for monocular visual odometry (VO) that takes motion constraints into account. A key aspect of our approach is to use an appropriate motion model that can help existing self-supervised monocular VO (SSM-VO) algorithms to overcome issues related to the local minima within their self-supervised loss functions. The motion model is expressed with a neural network named PPnet. It is trained to coarsely predict the next pose of the camera and the uncertainty of this prediction. Our self-supervised approach combines the original loss and the motion loss, which is the weighted difference between the prediction and the generated ego-motion. Taking two existing SSM-VO systems as our baseline, we evaluate our MotionHint algorithm on the standard KITTI benchmark. Experimental results show that our MotionHint algorithm can be easily applied to existing open-sourced state-of-the-art SSM-VO systems to greatly improve the performance by reducing the resulting ATE by up to 28.73%.

Neural Point-based Volumetric Avatar: Surface-guided Neural Points for Efficient and Photorealistic Volumetric Head Avatar

Rendering photorealistic and dynamically moving human heads is crucial for ensuring a pleasant and immersive experience in AR/VR and video conferencing applications. However, existing methods often struggle to model challenging facial regions (e.g., mouth interior, eyes, hair/beard), resulting in unrealistic and blurry results. In this paper, we propose {\fullname} ({\name}), a method that adopts the neural point representation as well as the neural volume rendering process and discards the predefined connectivity and hard correspondence imposed by mesh-based approaches. Specifically, the neural points are strategically constrained around the surface of the target expression via a high-resolution UV displacement map, achieving increased modeling capacity and more accurate control. We introduce three technical innovations to improve the rendering and training efficiency: a patch-wise depth-guided (shading point) sampling strategy, a lightweight radiance decoding process, and a Grid-Error-Patch (GEP) ray sampling strategy during training. By design, our {\name} is better equipped to handle topologically changing regions and thin structures while also ensuring accurate expression control when animating avatars. Experiments conducted on three subjects from the Multiface dataset demonstrate the effectiveness of our designs, outperforming previous state-of-the-art methods, especially in handling challenging facial regions.

LoLep: Single-View View Synthesis with Locally-Learned Planes and Self-Attention Occlusion Inference

We propose a novel method, LoLep, which regresses Locally-Learned planes from a single RGB image to represent scenes accurately, thus generating better novel views. Without the depth information, regressing appropriate plane locations is a challenging problem. To solve this issue, we pre-partition the disparity space into bins and design a disparity sampler to regress local offsets for multiple planes in each bin. However, only using such a sampler makes the network not convergent; we further propose two optimizing strategies that combine with different disparity distributions of datasets and propose an occlusion-aware reprojection loss as a simple yet effective geometric supervision technique. We also introduce a self-attention mechanism to improve occlusion inference and present a Block-Sampling Self-Attention (BS-SA) module to address the problem of applying self-attention to large feature maps. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach and generate state-of-the-art results on different datasets. Compared to MINE, our approach has an LPIPS reduction of 4.8%-9.0% and an RV reduction of 73.9%-83.5%. We also evaluate the performance on real-world images and demonstrate the benefits.

MeGA: Hybrid Mesh-Gaussian Head Avatar for High-Fidelity Rendering and Head Editing

Creating high-fidelity head avatars from multi-view videos is a core issue for many AR/VR applications. However, existing methods usually struggle to obtain high-quality renderings for all different head components simultaneously since they use one single representation to model components with drastically different characteristics (e.g., skin vs. hair). In this paper, we propose a Hybrid Mesh-Gaussian Head Avatar (MeGA) that models different head components with more suitable representations. Specifically, we select an enhanced FLAME mesh as our facial representation and predict a UV displacement map to provide per-vertex offsets for improved personalized geometric details. To achieve photorealistic renderings, we obtain facial colors using deferred neural rendering and disentangle neural textures into three meaningful parts. For hair modeling, we first build a static canonical hair using 3D Gaussian Splatting. A rigid transformation and an MLP-based deformation field are further applied to handle complex dynamic expressions. Combined with our occlusion-aware blending, MeGA generates higher-fidelity renderings for the whole head and naturally supports more downstream tasks. Experiments on the NeRSemble dataset demonstrate the effectiveness of our designs, outperforming previous state-of-the-art methods and supporting various editing functionalities, including hairstyle alteration and texture editing.

RRPO: Robust Reward Policy Optimization for LLM-based Emotional TTS

Differentiable reinforcement learning (RL) frameworks like DiffRO offer a powerful approach for controllable text-to-speech (TTS), but are vulnerable to reward hacking, particularly for nuanced tasks like emotion control. The policy model can exploit a vanilla Reward Model (RM) by generating acoustic artifacts to achieve spurious rewards, but at the cost of degrading perceptual quality. To address this, we propose Robust Reward Policy Optimization (RRPO), a novel framework that employs a hybrid regularization scheme. This scheme develops a robust RM whose reward signal is more reliably aligned with human perception, compelling the policy to abandon detrimental shortcuts and instead learn the complex features of genuine emotions. Our ablation study confirms the enhanced robustness of our RM, as evidenced by its strong cross-lingual generalization. The subjective evaluation demonstrates that this robust RM effectively mitigates reward hacking, leading to significant improvements in both emotional expressiveness and naturalness over all baselines. UniFit: Towards Universal Virtual Try-on with MLLM-Guided Semantic Alignment

Image-based virtual try-on (VTON) aims to synthesize photorealistic images of a person wearing specified garments. Despite significant progress, building a universal VTON framework that can flexibly handle diverse and complex tasks remains a major challenge. Recent methods explore multi-task VTON frameworks guided by textual instructions, yet they still face two key limitations: (1) semantic gap between text instructions and reference images, and (2) data scarcity in complex scenarios. To address these challenges, we propose UniFit, a universal VTON framework driven by a Multimodal Large Language Model (MLLM). Specifically, we introduce an MLLM-Guided Semantic Alignment Module (MGSA), which integrates multimodal inputs using an MLLM and a set of learnable queries. By imposing a semantic alignment loss, MGSA captures cross-modal semantic relationships and provides coherent and explicit semantic guidance for the generative process, thereby reducing the semantic gap. Moreover, by devising a two-stage progressive training strategy with a self-synthesis pipeline, UniFit is able to learn complex tasks from limited data. Extensive experiments show that UniFit not only supports a wide range of VTON tasks, including multi-garment and model-to-model try-on, but also achieves state-of-the-art performance. The source code and pretrained models are available at https://github.com/zwplus/UniFit.

Hemlet: A Heterogeneous Compute-in-Memory Chiplet Architecture for Vision Transformers with Group-Level Parallelism

Vision Transformers (ViTs) have established new performance benchmarks in vision tasks such as image recognition and object detection. However, these advancements come with significant demands for memory and computational resources, presenting challenges for hardware deployment. Heterogeneous compute-in-memory (CIM) accelerators have emerged as a promising solution for enabling energy-efficient deployment of ViTs. Despite this potential, monolithic CIM-based designs face scalability issues due to the size limitations of a single chip. To address this challenge, emerging chiplet-based techniques offer a more scalable alternative. However, chiplet designs come with their own costs, as they introduce expensive communication, which can hinder improvements in throughput. This work introduces Hemlet, a heterogeneous CIM chiplet system designed to accelerate ViT workloads. Hemlet enables flexible resource scaling through the integration of heterogeneous analog CIM (ACIM), digital CIM (DCIM), and Intermediate Data Process (IDP) chiplets. To improve throughput while reducing communication overhead, it employs a group-level parallelism (GLP) mapping strategy and system-level dataflow optimization, achieving speedups ranging from 2.41x to 5.74x across various hardware configurations within the chiplet system. Our evaluation results show that Hemlet can reach a throughput of 9.56 TOPS with an energy efficiency of 4.98 TOPS/W.

Winning the Pruning Gamble: A Unified Approach to Joint Sample and Token Pruning for Efficient Supervised Fine-Tuning

As supervised fine-tuning (SFT) evolves from a lightweight post-training step into a compute-intensive phase rivaling mid-training in scale, data efficiency has become critical for aligning large language models (LLMs) under tight budgets. Existing data pruning methods suffer from a fragmented design: they operate either at the sample level or the token level in isolation, failing to jointly optimize both dimensions. This disconnect leads to significant inefficiencies--high-value samples may still contain redundant tokens, while token-level pruning often discards crucial instructional or corrective signals embedded in individual examples. To address this bottleneck, we introduce the Error-Uncertainty (EU) Plane, a diagnostic framework that jointly characterizes the heterogeneous utility of training data across samples and tokens. Guided by this insight, we propose Quadrant-based Tuning (Q-Tuning), a unified framework that strategically coordinates sample pruning and token pruning. Q-Tuning employs a two-stage strategy: first, it performs sample-level triage to retain examples rich in informative misconceptions or calibration signals; second, it applies an asymmetric token-pruning policy, using a context-aware scoring mechanism to trim less salient tokens exclusively from misconception samples while preserving calibration samples in their entirety. Our method sets a new state of the art across five diverse benchmarks. Remarkably, on SmolLM2-1.7B, Q-Tuning achieves a +38\% average improvement over the full-data SFT baseline using only 12.5\% of the original training data. As the first dynamic pruning approach to consistently outperform full-data training, Q-Tuning provides a practical and scalable blueprint for maximizing data utilization in budget-constrained LLM SFT.
