Automorphisms of cubic surfaces without points

We classify finite groups acting by birational transformations of a non-trivial Severi--Brauer surface over a field of characteristc zero that are not conjugate to subgroups of the automorphism group. Also, we show that the automorphism group of a smooth cubic surface over a field $K$ of characteristic zero that has no $K$-points is abelian, and find a sharp bound for the Jordan constants of birational automorphism groups of such cubic surfaces.

Bounds for smooth Fano weighted complete intersections

We prove that if a smooth variety with non-positive canonical class can be embedded into a weighted projective space of dimension $n$ as a well formed complete intersection and it is not an intersection with a linear cone therein, then the weights of the weighted projective space do not exceed $n+1$. Based on this bound we classify all smooth Fano complete intersections of dimensions $4$ and $5$, and compute their invariants.

Birational automorphisms of Severi-Brauer surfaces

We prove that a finite group acting by birational automorphisms of a non-trivial Severi-Brauer surface over a field of characteristic zero contains a normal abelian subgroup of index at most 3. Also, we find an explicit bound for orders of such finite groups in the case when the base field contains all roots of 1.

Coble fourfold, $S_6$-invariant quartic threefolds, and Wiman-Edge sextics

We construct two small resolutions of singularities of the Coble fourfold (the double cover of the four-dimensional projective space branched over the Igusa quartic). We use them to show that all $S_6$-invariant three-dimensional quartics are birational to conic bundles over the quintic del Pezzo surface with the discriminant curves from the Wiman-Edge pencil. As an application, we check that $S_6$-invariant three-dimensional quartics are unirational, obtain new proofs of rationality of four special quartics among them and irrationality of the others, and describe their Weil divisor class groups as $S_6$-representations.

Delta invariants of singular del Pezzo surfaces

We estimate $δ$-invariants of some singular del Pezzo surfaces with quotient singularities, which we studied ten years ago. As a result, we show that each of these surfaces admits an orbifold Kähler--Einstein metric.

Hodge level for weighted complete intersections

We give lower bounds for Hodge numbers of smooth well formed Fano weighted complete intersections. In particular, we compute their Hodge level, that is, the maximal distance between non-trivial Hodge numbers in the same row of the Hodge diamond. This allows us to classify varieties whose Hodge numbers are like that of a projective space, of a curve, or of a Calabi--Yau variety of low dimension.

Double Veronese cones with 28 nodes

We study nodal del Pezzo 3-folds of degree $1$ (also known as double Veronese cones) with $28$ singularities, which is the maximal possible number of singularities for such varieties. We show that they are in one-to-one correspondence with smooth plane quartics and use this correspondence to study their automorphism groups. As an application, we find all $G$-birationally rigid varieties of this kind, and construct an infinite number of non-conjugate embeddings of the group $\mathfrak{S}_4$ into the space Cremona group.

Fiberwise bimeromorphic maps of conic bundles

Given a holomorphic conic bundle without sections, we show that finite groups acting by its fiberwise bimeromorphic transformations are bounded. This provides an analog of a similar result obtained by T.Bandman and Yu.Zarhin for quasi-projective conic bundles.

Automorphism groups of compact complex surfaces

We study automorphism groups and birational automorphism groups of compact complex surfaces. We show that the automorphism group of such surface $X$ is always Jordan, and the birational automorphism group is Jordan unless $X$ is birational to a product of an elliptic and a rational curve.

Which quartic double solids are rational?

We study the rationality problem for nodal quartic double solids. In particular, we prove that nodal quartic double solids with at most six singular points are irrational, and nodal quartic double solids with at least eleven singular points are rational.

Nef partitions for codimension 2 weighted complete intersections

We prove that a smooth well formed Fano weighted complete intersection of codimension 2 has a nef partition. We discuss applications of this fact to Mirror Symmetry. In particular we list all nef partitions for smooth well formed Fano weighted complete intersections of dimensions 4 and 5 and present weak Landau--Ginzburg models for them.
