Skew-orthogonal polynomials for a quartic Freud weight: two classes of quasi-orthogonal polynomials

This work is a thorough investigation of skew-orthogonal polynomials with respect to a quartic Freud weight. We provide an explicit method to evaluate skew-orthogonal polynomials of any degree as linear combinations of orthogonal polynomials. The coefficients of these combinations can be evaluated via novel recursive relations. Moreover, we observe that skew-orthogonal polynomials with even and odd degree constitute two families of quasi-orthogonal polynomials with respect to two different semi-classical Laguerre weights, and we provide the first instance of closed recursive relations involving skew-orthogonal polynomials only.

Random matrix ensembles and integrable differential identities

Integrable differential identities, together with ensemble-specific initial conditions, provide an effective approach for the characterisation of relevant observables and state functions in random matrix theory. We develop this approach for the unitary and orthogonal ensembles. In particular, we focus on a reduction where the probability measure is induced by a Hamiltonian expressed as a formal series of even interaction terms. We show that the order parameters for the unitary ensemble, that is associated with the Volterra lattice, provide a solution of the modified KP equation. The analogous reduction for the orthogonal ensemble, associated with the Pfaff lattice, leads to a new integrable chain. A key step for the calculation of order parameters for the orthogonal ensemble is the evaluation of the initial condition by using a map from orthogonal to skew-orthogonal polynomials. The thermodynamic limit leads to an integrable system (a chain for the orthogonal ensemble) of hydrodynamic type. Intriguingly, we find that the solution to the initial value problem for both the discrete system and its continuum limit are given by the very same semi-discrete dynamical chain.

Symmetric Matrix Ensemble and Integrable Hydrodynamic Chains

The partition function of the Symmetric Matrix Ensemble is identified with the $\tau-$function of a particular solution of the Pfaff Lattice. We show that in the case of even power interactions, in the thermodynamic limit, the $\tau-$function corresponds to the solution of an integrable chain of hydrodynamic type. We prove that the hydrodynamic chain so obtained is diagonalisable and admits hydrodynamic reductions in Riemann invariants in an arbitrary number of components.

Thermodynamic Limit and Dispersive Regularisation in Matrix Models

We show that Hermitian matrix models support the occurrence of a new type of phase transition characterised by dispersive regularisation of the order parameter near the critical point. Using the identification of the partition function with a solution of a reduction of the Toda hierarchy, known as Volterra system, we argue that the singularity is resolved by the onset of a multi-dimensional dispersive shock of the order parameter in the space of coupling constants. This analysis explains the origin and mechanism leading to the emergence of chaotic behaviours observed in M^6 matrix models and extends its validity to even nonlinearity of arbitrary order.

Loop correlations in random wire models

We introduce a family of loop soup models on the hypercubic lattice. The models involve links on the edges, and random pairings of the link endpoints on the sites. We conjecture that loop correlations of distant points are given by Poisson-Dirichlet correlations in dimensions three and higher. We prove that, in a specific random wire model that is related to the classical XY spin system, the probability that distant sites form an even partition is given by the Poisson-Dirichlet counterpart.

Decay of correlations in 2D quantum systems with continuous symmetry

We study a large class of models of two-dimensional quantum lattice systems with continuous symmetries, and we prove a general McBryan-Spencer-Koma-Tasaki theorem concerning algebraic decay of correlations. We present applications of our main result to the Heisenberg-, Hubbard-, and t-J models, and to certain models of random loops.

Correlation inequalities for classical and quantum XY models

We review correlation inequalities of truncated functions for the classical and quantum XY models. A consequence is that the critical temperature of the XY model is necessarily smaller than that of the Ising model, in both the classical and quantum cases. We also discuss an explicit lower bound on the critical temperature of the quantum XY model.

Correlation inequalities for the quantum XY model

We show the positivity or negativity of truncated correlation functions in the quantum XY model with spin 1/2 (at any temperature) and spin 1 (in the ground state). These Griffiths-Ginibre inequalities of the second kind generalise an earlier result of Gallavotti.
