Double-$Q$ chiral stripe order in the anomalous Hall antiferromagnet CoNb$_3$S$_6$

We present fine momentum space resolution resonant elastic x-ray scattering measurements of the magnetic structure of the metallic antiferromagnet CoNb$_3$S$_6$. Using circular dichroism and full linear polarization analysis of the magnetic scattering, we reveal a non-coplanar double-$Q$ ($2Q$) order, with a non-collinear commensurate component and a long-wavelength incommensurate helical component. This $2Q$ structure exhibits a staggered scalar spin chirality that forms a modulated stripe-like pattern with no uniform component. This novel magnetic order is naturally explained by the presence of four-spin exchange interactions and exhibits a complex domain structure that suggests a lowering of the structural symmetry. A symmetry analysis indicates that the $2Q$ order enables a finite anomalous Hall effect in CoNb$_3$S$_6$. In addition to identifying a novel type of magnetic ordering and its origin, our results provide insight into the mechanism of the unconventional magnetotransport phenomena in CoNb$_3$S$_6$ and thus identifies potential routes for realizing novel electronic phenomena in metallic antiferromagnets.

Antiferromagnetism and Tightly Bound Cooper Pairs Induced by Kinetic Frustration

Antiferromagnetism and superconductivity are often viewed as competing orders in correlated electron systems. Here, we demonstrate that kinetic frustration in hole motion facilitates their coexistence within the square-lattice repulsive Hubbard model. Combining exact analytical solutions on tailored geometries with large-scale numerical simulations, we reveal a robust pairing mechanism: holes on opposite sublattices behave as if they carry opposite effective charges due to spin singlet formation from kinetic frustration. This emergent property suppresses phase separation and fosters a coherent $d$-wave superconducting channel embedded within a long-range antiferromagnetic background. Our findings establish a minimal yet broadly applicable framework for stabilizing strong-coupling superconductivity in doped Mott insulators.

Renormalized Classical Theory of Quantum Magnets

We derive a renormalized classical spin (RCS) theory for $S > 1/2$ quantum magnets by constraining a generalized classical theory that includes all multipolar fluctuations to a reduced CP$^1$ phase space of dipolar SU($2$) coherent states. When the spin Hamiltonian $\hat{\cal{H}}^{S}$ is linear in the spin operators $\hat{\boldsymbol{S}}_j$ for each lattice site $j$, the RCS Hamiltonian $\tilde{\cal{H}}_{\rm cl}$ coincides with the usual classical model $\cal{H}_{\rm cl} = \lim_{S\rightarrow\infty} \hat{\cal{H}}^S$. In the presence of non-linear terms, however, the RCS theory is more accurate than $\cal{H}_{\rm cl}$. For the many materials modeled by spin Hamiltonians with (non-linear) single-ion anisotropy terms, the use of the RCS theory is essential to accurately model phase diagrams and to extract the correct Hamiltonian parameters from neutron scattering data
