Inhomogeneous dust collapse in five-dimensional AdS-Chern-Simons gravity

We study the gravitational collapse of a spherically symmetric, inhomogeneous dust cloud in five-dimensional AdS Chern--Simons gravity. Working in the torsion-free sector and using comoving Lema\^ıtre--Tolman--Bondi coordinates, we derive the reduced field equations and obtain an exact collapsing interior solution. The areal radius evolves periodically in time, but the physical collapsing branch extends only up to shell focusing or an earlier loss of regularity, while the initial density determines a radial function whose square is proportional to the conserved quasilocal mass. This separates the roles of the initial velocity and density profiles in controlling shell focusing and trapping. We derive conditions for central regularity and for avoiding shell crossing, analyze the Kretschmann scalar, and show that shell focusing corresponds to a genuine curvature singularity, the weak and strong energy conditions are preserved throughout the regular collapsing phase. The homogeneous limit reduces consistently to a five-dimensional FLRW interior. The collapsing cloud is matched smoothly to the black-hole branch of the static AdS Chern--Simons exterior. The null expansions show that a finite-radius apparent horizon forms only when the quasilocal mass exceeds a critical threshold. Initially untrapped shells above this threshold become trapped before shell focusing, whereas below the total-mass threshold no finite-radius future-trapped symmetry sphere forms in the regular interior.

A Geometric Action Principle for Unification of Yang-Mills Fields, Gravity and Matter Fermions

A single geometric action, constructed as a linear combination of a restricted six-dimensional family of Clifford-generated invariant terms, simultaneously generates the gravitational, Yang--Mills, and fermionic sectors and correlates their structure and relative coefficients. The resulting parameter space contains known linearized ghost-free quadratic gravitational models with propagating torsion in a reduced bosonic sector. Our results therefore establish an economical geometric route to gauge--gravity unification that requires neither extra dimensions nor an externally introduced symmetry-breaking field. In particular, the Clifford-algebraic construction naturally accommodates parameter subspaces in which the reduced bosonic sector reproduces known ghost-free theories and the independent Klein--Gordon-type fermionic kinetic term vanishes.

Non-exotic traversable wormholes in Einstein-Chern-Simons gravity

We investigate traversable wormhole solutions in five-dimensional Einstein-Chern-Simons (EChS) gravity, a gauge-theoretic extension of General Relativity that introduces a higher-curvature correction parametrized by the combination $αl^2$, where $α$ is a dimensionless coupling and $l$ is a length scale. Working with the Morris-Thorne metric and an anisotropic fluid, we derive exact expressions for the energy density, radial pressure, and lateral pressure at the wormhole throat. We show that the radial Null Energy Condition (NEC) is satisfied at the throat if and only if $αl^2\leq-r_0^2$, being saturated at $αl^2=-r_0^2$ and strictly satisfied for $αl^2<-r_0^2$, independently of the shape function. In the latter regime, the energy density is strictly positive and the full NEC, Weak, Strong, and Dominant Energy Conditions can be simultaneously satisfied. These results are established analytically for arbitrary shape functions and illustrated concretely for the power-law family $b(r)=r_0(r_0/r)^n$, $Φ=0$, for which all four standard energy conditions are satisfied at the throat for all $n>0$ when the EChS coupling is sufficiently negative. We further show that the radial pressure is negative and geometrically fixed at the throat, independently of $α$, $b(r)$, and $Φ(r)$. Using the Volume Integral Quantifier (VIQ), we establish that the EChS correction reduces the magnitude of the negative integrated NEC contribution relative to GR, and derive an exact closed-form critical coupling $αl^2_{\rm crit}$ at which the VIQ vanishes. The hierarchy $αl^2_{\rm crit}<-r_0^2<0$ shows that NEC satisfaction at the throat and a non-negative global VIQ are compatible but distinct conditions, both achievable within EChS gravity. All results reduce continuously to those of GR in the limit $l\to0$, confirming the consistency of the framework.

Torsional pseudo-inflation beyond Einstein-Cartan

Torsion entered early-universe cosmology twice: through the nonsingular Einstein--Cartan bounce, where the quantum spin of fermions halts the contraction, and through the proposal that the expansion following that bounce could take over the duties of cosmic inflation. We revisit the second idea in a constructive spirit. First we compute its budget: for a Weyssenhoff spin fluid with barotropic source, $w\in\left[0,1\right]$, the accelerated window that follows the bounce spans $N_e=\ln\left[4/\left(1+3w\right)\right]/3\left(1-w\right)\leq\tfrac{1}{3}\ln4\simeq0.46$ e-folds, and positive spatial curvature only shrinks it. The mechanism is sound; its torsional ``fuel'' dilutes as $a^{-6}$, and the engine stops two orders of magnitude short of inflationary needs. We then ask what torsion would need in order to sustain a quasi-de Sitter phase, and give a two-branch answer in Riemann--Cartan cosmology with nonminimal couplings, where torsion is fed by the couplings rather than by spin. The vectorial branch reproduces Palatini inflation, observationally alive. On the axial branch we exhibit an exact de Sitter solution sustained by a torsion condensate: constant axial torsion $f_{0}$, a linear Gauss--Bonnet coupling, and a potential fixed to $V_{0}=6f_{0}^{2}+\tfrac{5}{2}v^{2}$ by the Friedmann constraint. The solution is an attractor of the homogeneous dynamics, with eigenvalue exactly $-3H$. The phase ends when the slope $U^{\prime}$, a decreasing function of the roll speed at fixed flat potential, drifts down to the floor $5/16V_{0}$ and the condensate switches itself off; consistency of the effective theory pins the whole episode near the Planck scale, $H\gtrsim0.3$ in reduced Planck units. We studied this branch at background level; its perturbation spectrum remains open.

How greedy is the Universe? An entropy ledger and a causal envelope for early black hole growth

The entropy of the observable Universe is dominated, by fifteen orders of magnitude, by the horizons of supermassive black holes, and gravitational collapse into black holes has often been proposed as the Universe's preferred channel of entropy production. We examine this suggestion quantitatively, and the analysis largely refutes it. Three results are presented. First, an entropy production history: the rate $dS/dt(z)$ resolved by channel, from the star formation history and a Soltan-normalized accretion history. Black hole horizon growth exceeds all radiative channels by a factor $\sim 10^{16-17}$ after the first seeds; the total rate peaked near $z\approx 1$--$2$ and has since declined; the late peak is structural, because horizon entropy production weights accretion by the accretor's mass and the most massive accretors are assembled last. Second, a causal-hydrodynamic envelope: the fastest entropy-producing trajectory permitted by causality and gas dynamics, $\dot M \sim c_s^3/G$ in atomic-cooling halos, which reaches $10^{7\pm1}\,M_\odot$ by $z\approx 8$--$10$ without radiative throttling, and whose phenomenology (obscured, radiatively inefficient, X-ray weak, red) closely resembles the JWST little red dots. The realized-to-envelope ratio defines an efficiency $F(z)$, which remains between $10^{-7}$ and $10^{-4}$ throughout $4\le z\le 12$, even under the most generous JWST-era bracket. Third, order-of-magnitude no-go results: Boltzmann weighting of collapse channels by entropy gain, dissipative adaptation applied to self-gravitating systems, and any strong maximum-entropy-production principle in cosmology all fail at leading order, by factors of up to $10^{16}$. The Universe produces entropy overwhelmingly through black holes, yet remains far below its own envelope at all times. Whatever selects cosmic structure, it does not maximize entropy production.

No late-time role for adiabatic torsion: a no-go result for Hubble-cutoff holographic dark energy in Einstein--Cartan cosmology

In Friedmann cosmology with Einstein--Cartan torsion, the homogeneous torsion mode compatible with a separately conserved matter sector scales as $Φ\propto a^{-3}$ and enters the Friedmann constraint as a stiff component of negative energy density, $-3Φ^{2}\propto a^{-6}$. It has recently been claimed that this mode rescues the Hubble radius as an infrared cutoff for holographic dark energy, producing late-time acceleration and a phantom-divide crossing of possible relevance to DESI. We show that it cannot. With the Hubble cutoff the holographic density drops out of the deceleration parameter, and the only accelerating regime is the transient window $\bar{a}\leq a<4^{1/3}\bar{a}$ around the torsion bounce at $H(\bar{a})=0$; placing that window at observable redshifts would force the Hubble rate to vanish in our recent past, against the measured expansion history. Requiring a viable history yields nested upper bounds on $Ω_Φ\equiv(Φ_{0}/H_{0})^{2}$: fitting the official DESI DR2 BAO likelihood gives $Ω_Φ<8.7\times10^{-4}$ ($95\%$ CL), the existence of a spectroscopically confirmed galaxy at $z=14.32$ gives $8.4\times10^{-5}$, the CMB gives $3.1\times10^{-10}$, and Big Bang nucleosynthesis gives $5\times10^{-24}$. Today's imprint on the dark energy equation of state, $|1+ω_{0}|\leq2Ω_Φ/Ω_Λ$, falls short of the DESI preference by two orders of magnitude at best and twenty-two at worst, and on the phantom side. In the Granda--Oliveros cutoff, torsion deepens rather than prevents the big-rip singularity. An appendix derives the Friedmann pair from the Einstein--Cartan field equations and shows that the $a^{-3}$ scaling is the kinematics of a diluting spin fluid; escaping the no-go requires breaking exactly that.

(Quasi-)normal modes of rotating black holes and new solitons in Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet

In this paper, we analyze the scalar field (quasi-)normal modes of recently derived rotating black holes within the framework of Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet theory at the Chern-Simons point in five dimensions. We also examine the mode spectrum of these probes on new static gravitational solitons. These solitons, featuring a regular center, are constructed from static black holes with gravitational hair via a double analytic continuation. By imposing ingoing boundary conditions at the horizons of rotating black holes, ensuring regularity at the soliton centers, and imposing Dirichlet boundary conditions at infinity, we obtain numerical spectra for the rotating black holes and solitons. For static black holes, we demonstrate analytically that the imaginary part of the mode frequencies is negative. Our analysis of the massless Klein-Gordon equation on five-dimensional geometries reveals an infinite family of gaped, massive three-dimensional Klein-Gordon fields, despite the presence of a non-compact extended direction. For the static solitons, the frequencies are real and non-equispaced, whereas in the rotating black holes, counter-rotating modes are absorbed more quickly, and the imaginary part of the co-rotating modes approaches zero as extremality is approached. Additionally, we show that both the rotating black holes and solitons can be equipped with non-trivial torsion, leading to a novel branch of solutions.

Rotating and accelerating AdS black holes in Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet Gravity

We present new, exact, rotating and accelerating solutions within the framework of five-dimensional Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet theory at the Chern-Simons point. The rotating solutions describe black holes characterized by a single rotation parameter, a mass parameter, and two extra integration constants that can be interpreted as hairs of a gravitational nature. It is noteworthy that the rotation cannot be removed by a large diffeomorphism. We also extend our procedure to dimension seven, providing a new rotating black hole solution with two rotation parameters pertaining to cubic Lovelock theory with a unique vacuum.

Electromagnetically and gravitationally stealth fields

We construct a generic class of models for complex scalar fields -- minimally coupled to gravity and electromagnetism -- with the property that their energy-momentum tensor and the electric current vanish for certain massive configurations. These are electromagnetically and gravitationally {\it stealth fields}. We shall see that the latter configurations can affect, in addition, the strength of the gravity-matter and electromagnetic-matter couplings of other (non-stealth) modes present in the system, which turn out to be equivalent to the re-scaling the electric charge and the Newton constant (with a stealth-mass depending factor).

Five-dimensional Einstein-Chern-Simons cosmology

We consider a five-dimensional Einstein-Chern-Simons action which is composed of a gravitational sector and a sector of matter, where the gravitational sector is given by a Chern-Simons gravity action instead of the Einstein-Hilbert action, and where the matter sector is given by a perfect fluid. The gravitational lagrangian is obtained gauging some Lie-algebras, which in turn, were obtained by S-expansion procedure of Anti-de Sitter and de Sitter algebras. On the cosmological plane, we discuss the field equations resulting from the Anti-de Sitter and de Sitter frameworks and we show analogies with four-dimensional cosmological schemes.

Static solutions in Einstein-Chern-Simons gravity

In this paper we study static solutions with more general symmetries than the spherical symmetry of the five-dimensional Einstein-Chern-Simons gravity. In this context, we study the coupling of the extra bosonic field $% h^{a}$ with ordinary matter which is quantified by the introduction of an energy-momentum tensor field associated with $h^{a}$. It is found that exist (i) a negative tangential pressure zone around low-mass distributions ($μ<μ_{1}$) when the coupling constant $α$ is greater than zero; (ii) a maximum in the tangential pressure, which can be observed in the outer region of a field distribution that satisfies $μ<μ_{2}$; (iii) solutions that behave like those obtained from models with negative cosmological constant. In such a situation, the field $h^{a}$ plays the role of a cosmological constant.

Stellar equilibrium in Einstein-Chern-Simons gravity

We consider a spherically symmetric internal solution within the context of Einstein-Chern-Simons gravity and derive a generalized five-dimensional Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkoff (TOV) equation. It is shown that the generalized TOV equation leads, in a certain limit, to the standard five-dimensional TOV equation

Some cosmological solutions in Einstein-Chern-Simons gravity

In this paper we find new solutions for the so called Einstein-Chern-Simons Friedmann-Robertson-Walker field equations studied in refs. (Phys. Rev. D 84 (2011) 063506, Eur. Phys. J. C 74 (2014) 3087). We consider three cases:(i) in the first case we find some solutions of the five-dimensional ChS-FRW field equations when the $h^a$ field is a perfect fluid that obeys a barotropic equation of state; (ii) in the second case we study the solutions, for the cases $γ=1/2,\ 3/4$, when the $h^a$ field is a five dimensional politropic fluid that obeys the equation $P^{(h)}=ω^{(h)}ρ^{(h)γ}$; (iii) in the third case we find the scale factor and the state parameter $ω(t)$ when the $h^a$ field is a variable modified Chaplygin gas. We consider also a space-time metric which contains as a subspace to the usual four-dimensional FRW and then we study the same three cases considered in the five-dimensional, namely when (i) the $h^a$ field is a perfect fluid, (ii) the $h^a$ field is a five dimensional politropic fluid and (iii) the $h^a$ field is a variable modified Chaplygin gas.

Accelerated FRW Solutions in Chern-Simons Gravity

We consider a five-dimensional Einstein-Chern-Simons action which is composed of a gravitational sector and a sector of matter, where the gravitational sector is given by a Chern-Simons gravity action instead of the Einstein-Hilbert action and where the matter sector is given by the so called perfect fluid. It is shown that (i) the Einstein-Chern-Simons (EChS) field equations subject to suitable conditions can be written in a similar way to the Einstein-Maxwell field equations; (ii) these equations have solutions that describe accelerated expansion for the three possible cosmological models of the universe, namely, spherical expansion, flat expansion and hyperbolic expansion when $α$, a parameter of theory, is greater than zero. This result allow us to conjeture that this solutions are compatible with the era of Dark Energy and that the energy-momentum tensor for the field $h^{a}$, a bosonic gauge field from the Chern-Simons gravity action, corresponds to a form of positive cosmological constant. It is also shown that the EChS field equations have solutions compatible with the era of matter: (i) In the case of an open universe, the solutions correspond to an accelerated expansion ($α>0$) with a minimum scale factor at initial time that, when the time goes to infinity, the scale factor behaves as a hyperbolic sine function. (ii) In the case of a flat universe, the solutions describing an accelerated expansion whose scale factor behaves as a exponencial function when time grows. \item In the case of a closed universe it is found only one solution for a universe in expansion, which behaves as a hyperbolic cosine function when time grows.

Black hole for the Einstein-Chern-Simons gravity

We consider a 5-dimensional action which is composed of a gravitational sector and a sector of matter, where the gravitational sector is given by a Einstein-Chern-Simons gravity action instead of the Einstein-Hilbert action. We obtain the Einstein-Chern-Simons (EChS) field equations together with its spherically sym- metric solution, which leads, in certain limit, to the standard five dimensional solution of the Einstein-Cartan field equations. It is found the conditions under which the EChS field equations admits black hole type solutions. The maximal extension and conformal compactification are also studied
