Reinterpretation and preservation of data and analyses in HEP

Data from particle physics experiments are unique and are often the result of a very large investment of resources. Given the potential scientific impact of these data, which goes far beyond the immediate priorities of the experimental collaborations that obtain them, it is imperative that the collaborations and the wider particle physics community publish and preserve sufficient information to ensure that this impact can be realised, now and into the future. The information to be published and preserved includes the algorithms, statistical information, simulations and the recorded data. This publication and preservation requires significant resources, and should be a strategic priority with commensurate planning and resource allocation from the earliest stages of future facilities and experiments.

NMSSM with correct relic density and an additional 95 GeV Higgs boson

We investigate whether it is possible within the NMSSM to describe simultaneously a correct dark matter relic density complying with the latest null results from the LZ experiment, an extra Higgs boson with a mass of ~95 GeV visible in the bb channel at LEP and the diphoton channel at the LHC, and the deviation of the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon from its value within the Standard Model. We find that this is still possible for a variety of dark matter annihilation mechanisms, for singlino-like but also bino-like lightest supersymmetric particles. We show the signal rates of the extra Higgs boson and the dark matter detection rates as function of the dark matter mass and annihilation mechanism. The dark matter direct detection cross section may well fall below the neutrino floor. The masses of the lightest electroweakly interacting supersymmetric particles are typically not far above 100 GeV, but not excluded due to unconventional decays.

NMSSM Explanation for Excesses in the Search for Neutralinos and Charginos and a 95 GeV Higgs Boson

The observed excesses in the search for neutralinos and charginos by ATLAS and CMS can be fitted simultaneously in the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) assuming a light higgsino mass, of magnitude less than about 250 GeV, and a compressed higgsino dominated neutralino and chargino spectrum, with $5-10\%$ mass splittings. However, light higgsinos as dark matter would have far too large direct detection cross sections. We consider the next-to-MSSM (NMSSM) with an additional singlino-like lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP) a few GeV below the next-to-lightest supersymmetric particle (NLSP). Sparticles prefer to decay first into the NLSP and remnants from the final decay into the LSP are too soft to contribute to the observed signals. Co-annihilation in the higgsino-sector can generate a relic density in the WMAP/Planck window. The singlino-like LSP has automatically a direct detection cross section below present and future sensitivities: a direct detection signal in the near future would exclude this scenario. The singlet-like Higgs scalar of the NMSSM can have a mass around 95 GeV and signal cross sections in the $b\bar{b}$ channel at LEP and in the $γγ$ channel at the LHC compatible with the respective observations.

Additional Higgs Bosons near 95 and 650 GeV in the NMSSM

Hints for an additional Higgs boson with a mass of about 95 GeV originate from LEP and searches in the diphoton channel by CMS and ATLAS. A search for resonant production of SM plus BSM Higgs bosons in the diphoton plus bb channel by CMS showed some excess for a 650 GeV resonance decaying into the SM Higgs plus a 95 GeV Higgs boson. We investigate whether these phenomena can be interpreted simultaneously within the NMSSM subject to the latest constraints on couplings of the SM Higgs boson, on extra Higgs bosons from the LHC, and on dark matter direct detection cross sections. We find that the hints for a 95 GeV Higgs boson in the diphoton channel by CMS and ATLAS and in the diphoton plus bb channel by CMS can be fitted simultaneously within the 2 sigma level.

$M_W$, Dark Matter and $a_μ$ in the NMSSM

We study regions in the parameter space of the NMSSM which are able to simultaneously explain the current measured values for the $W$ mass $M_W$ and the muon anomalous magnetic moment $a_μ$, and provide a dark matter relic density consistent with the observations as well as constraints from detection experiments. The corresponding regions feature light charginos, sleptons and staus in the 100-800~GeV range, at least some of them with masses below 150~GeV such that the electroweakly-interacting SUSY particles generate sufficiently large contributions to $M_W$. The LSP is always singlino-like with a mass below 140~GeV, and could possibly remain invisible even at future detection experiments. Decays of electroweak sparticles proceed through cascades via staus and/or sleptons which makes their detection challenging. We propose benchmark points for future searches of such sparticles. The lightest CP-even scalar may have a mass in the 95-98~GeV range with, however, modest signal rates in view of the mild excesses reported in this range at LEP and by CMS at the LHC.

Benchmark Planes for Higgs-to-Higgs Decays in the NMSSM

We present benchmark planes (or lines) with cross sections via gluon fusion for the processes $H\to h+H_{S}$, resonant Higgs pair and triple Higgs production, $A \to h+(A_S \to γγ)$, $A \to Z+ h$ and $A \to Z+ H_{S}$ within the Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model. Moreover we propose new searches for $H\to h+(H_{S} \to t\bar{t})$, $A \to Z+ (H_{S}\to h+h)$ and $A \to Z+ (H_{S}\to t\bar{t})$ for which possible cross sections are given. These allow the experimental collaborations to verify in the future which search channels cover yet unexplored regions of the parameter space. Expressions for the dominant contributions to trilinear Higgs couplings and Higgs--Z couplings are discussed which allow to identify the dominant processes contributing to a given final state.

Extended Gauge Mediation in the NMSSM with Displaced LHC Signals

We analyze models of extended Gauge Mediation in the context of the NMSSM, concentrating on supersymmetric spectra with light gluinos, low fine-tuning and decays of the lightest neutralino leading to displaced vertices. While the minimal scenario has rather heavy gluinos as a result of restrictions from the Higgs sector, we propose two new models in which the gluino can be as light as allowed by direct searches at the LHC, with a mass of about 1.7 TeV and 2.0 TeV, respectively. Both models have a tuning of a few permille, and lead to an interesting phenomenology due to a light singlet sector. A singlet state at around 98 GeV can account for the LEP excess, while the singlino has a mass of the order of 100 GeV and decays to b-jets and the gravitino, with decay lengths of a few cm.

The higgsino-singlino sector of the NMSSM: Combined constraints from dark matter and the LHC

A light singlino is a promising candidate for dark matter, and a light higgsino is natural in the parameter space of the NMSSM. We study the combined constraints on this scenario resulting from the dark matter relic density, the most recent results from direct detection experiments, LEP and the LHC. In particular limits from a recent search for electroweak production of charginos and neutralinos at $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV after 35.9 fb$^{-1}$ by CMS and constraints on spin-independent dark matter-nucleon cross sections from XENON1T after one tonne$\times$year exposure are considered. We find that scenarios with higgsino masses below $\sim 250$ GeV as well as singlino masses below $\sim 100$ GeV are strongly constrained depending, however, on assumptions on the bino mass parameter $M_1$. Benchmark points and branching fractions for future searches at the LHC are proposed.

Prompt Signals and Displaced Vertices in Sparticle Searches for Next-to-Minimal Gauge Mediated Supersymmetric Models

We study the LHC phenomenology of the next-to-minimal model of gauge-mediated supersymmetry breaking (NMGMSB), both for Run I and Run II. The Higgs phenomenology of the model is consistent with observations: a 125 GeV Standard Model-like Higgs which mixes with singlet-like state of mass around 90 GeV that provides a 2$σ$ excess at LEP II. The model possesses regions of parameter space where a longer-lived lightest neutralino decays in the detector into a gravitino and a $b-$jet pair or a tau pair. We investigate current lower bounds on sparticle masses and the discovery potential of the model, both via conventional sparticle searches and via searches for displaced vertices. The strongest bound from searches for promptly decaying sparticles yields a lower limit on the gluino mass of 1080 GeV. An analysis of 100 fb$^{-1}$ from Run II, on the other hand, is expected to be sensitive up to 1900 GeV. The displaced vertex searches from Run I suffer from a very low signal efficiency, mainly due to the presence of $b-$quarks in the final state. We show how the displaced vertex cuts might be relaxed in order to improve signal efficiency, while simultaneous prompt objects can be used to cut down background. We find that a combined search strategy with both prompt and displaced cuts potentially has a far better sensitivity to this model than either set alone, motivating a fully fledged experimental study.

A 750 GeV Diphoton Signal from a Very Light Pseudoscalar in the NMSSM

The excess of events in the diphoton final state near 750 GeV observed by ATLAS and CMS can be explained within the NMSSM near the R-symmetry limit. Both scalars beyond the Standard Model Higgs boson have masses near 750 GeV, mix strongly, and share sizeable production cross sections in association with b-quarks as well as branching fractions into a pair of very light pseudoscalars. Pseudoscalars with a mass of ~ 210 MeV decay into collimated diphotons, whereas pseudoscalars with a mass of ~ 500-550 MeV can decay either into collimated diphotons or into three pi^0 resulting in collimated photon jets. Various such scenarios are discussed; the dominant constraints on the latter scenario originate from bounds on radiative Upsilon decays, but they allow for a signal cross section up to 6.7 fb times the acceptance for collimated multiphotons to pass as a single photon.

Gauge Mediation in the NMSSM with a Light Singlet: Sparticles within the Reach of LHC Run II

Relatively light stops in gauge mediation models are usually made compatible with the Higgs mass of 125 GeV by introducing direct Higgs-messenger couplings. We show that such couplings are not necessary in a simple and predictive model that combines minimal gauge mediation and the next-to-minimal supersymmetric standard model (NMSSM). We show that one can obtain a 125 GeV Standard Model-like Higgs boson with stops as light as 1.1 TeV, thanks to the mixing of the Higgs with a singlet state at ${\cal O}(90-100)$ GeV that can explain the LEP excess. In this scenario the singlet-higgs-higgs superfields coupling $λ$ is small and $\tanβ$ large. Sparticle searches at the LHC may come with additional $b-$jets or taus and may involve displaced vertices. The sparticle production cross-section at the 13 TeV LHC can be ${\mathcal O}(10-100)$ fb, leading to great prospects for discovery in the early phase of LHC Run II.

The semi-constrained NMSSM satisfying bounds from the LHC, LUX and Planck

We study the parameter space of the semi-constrained NMSSM, compatible with constraints on the Standard Model like Higgs mass and signal rates, constraints from searches for squarks and gluinos, a dark matter relic density compatible with bounds from WMAP/Planck, and direct detection cross sections compatible with constraints from LUX. The remaining parameter space allows for a fine-tuning as low as about 100, an additional lighter Higgs boson in the 60-120 GeV mass range detectable in the diphoton mode or in decays into a pair of lighter CP-odd Higgs bosons, and dominantly singlino like dark matter with a mass down to 1 GeV, but possibly a very small direct detection cross section.

Higgs bosons near 125 GeV in the NMSSM with constraints at the GUT scale

We study the NMSSM with universal Susy breaking terms (besides the Higgs sector) at the GUT scale. Within this constrained parameter space, it is not difficult to find a Higgs boson with a mass of about 125 GeV and an enhanced cross section in the diphoton channel. An additional lighter Higgs boson with reduced couplings and a mass <123 GeV is potentially observable at the LHC. The NMSSM-specific Yukawa couplings lambda and kappa are relatively large and tan(beta) is small, such that lambda, kappa and the top Yukawa coupling are of order 1 at the GUT scale. The lightest stop can be as light as 105 GeV, and the fine-tuning is modest. WMAP constraints can be satisfied by a dominantly higgsino-like LSP with substantial bino, wino and singlino admixtures and a mass of ~60-90 GeV, which would potentially be detectable by XENON100.

Naturalness and Fine Tuning in the NMSSM: Implications of Early LHC Results

We study the fine tuning in the parameter space of the semi-constrained NMSSM, where most soft Susy breaking parameters are universal at the GUT scale. We discuss the dependence of the fine tuning on the soft Susy breaking parameters M_1/2 and m0, and on the Higgs masses in NMSSM specific scenarios involving large singlet-doublet Higgs mixing or dominant Higgs-to-Higgs decays. Whereas these latter scenarios allow a priori for considerably less fine tuning than the constrained MSSM, the early LHC results rule out a large part of the parameter space of the semi-constrained NMSSM corresponding to low values of the fine tuning.

Radiative Upsilon decays and a light pseudoscalar Higgs in the NMSSM

We study possible effects of a light CP-odd Higgs boson on radiative Upsilon decays in the Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model. Recent constraints from CLEO on radiative Upsilon(1S) decays are translated into constraints on the parameter space of CP-odd Higgs boson masses and couplings, and compared to constraints from B physics and the muon anomalous magnetic moment. Possible Higgs - eta_b(nS) mixing effects are discussed, notably in the light of the recent measurement of the eta_b(1S) mass by Babar: The somewhat large Upsilon(1S) - eta_b(1S) hyperfine splitting could easily be explained by the presence of a CP-odd Higgs boson with a mass in the range 9.4 - 10.5 GeV. Then, tests of lepton universality in inclusive radiative Upsilon decays can provide a visible signal in forthcoming experimental data.

The upper bound on the lightest Higgs mass in the NMSSM revisited

We update the upper bound on the lightest CP even Higgs mass in the NMSSM, which is given as a function of tan(beta) and lambda. We include the available one and two loop corrections to the NMSSM Higgs masses, and constraints from the absence of Landau singularities below the GUT scale as well as from the stability of the NMSSM Higgs potential. For m_top varying between 171.4 and 178 GeV, squark masses of 1 TeV and maximal mixing the upper bound is assumed near tan(beta) ~ 2 and varies between 139.9 and 141.4 GeV.

NMHDECAY 2.0: An updated program for Sparticle masses, Higgs masses, couplings and decay widths in the NMSSM

We describe the the improved properties of the NMHDECAY program, that is designed to compute Higgs and sparticle masses and Higgs decay widths in the NMSSM. In the version 2.0, Higgs decays into squarks and sleptons are included, accompagnied by a calculation of the squark, gluino and slepton spectrum and tests against constraints from LEP and the Tevatron. Further radiative corrections are included in the Higgs mass calculation. A link to MicrOMEGAs allows to compute the dark matter relic density, and a rough (lowest order) calculation of the BR(s -> b gamma) is performed.
