Gravi-Natural Higgs and Conformal New Physics

We study gauge hierarchy problem of the Standard Model (SM) not by introducing new physics at the electroweak scale but by utilizing gravitational frames, frames generated by conformal transformations, as a renormalization medium. The essence of the naturalization mechanism is that a particular conformal transformation with respect to the Higgs field completely decouples Higgs from matter fields so that the terms causing quadratic divergences become genuine benign. In this frame, we analyze stability, unitarity and renormalizability of the interactions, and construct the effective $SM$ theory at the electroweak scale by taking into account the conformal anomalies. We scrutinize certain salient features of the framework, and discuss h -> gamma gamma decay as an application. The proposed mechanism naturalizes not only the SM but also its extensions if they involve no new mass scales and exhibit strict conformal invariance. The new physics thus forms a conformal field theory (CFT), and can involve additional fermion generations, extra gauge groups as well as all kinds of SM singlets. Certain phenomena, for instance, CP-violating Higgs sector, Dark Matter and Inflation, can be modeled with less free parameters. Scalar and vector singlets can directly interact with the SM spectrum, and can be searched for in certain scattering processes such as the invisible decays of the Higgs boson.

On the Sources of CP-violation Contributing to the Electric Dipole Moments

In the framework of seesaw mechanism embedded in the constrained Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (cMSSM), phases of neutrino Yukawa coupling, $μ$-term and $A$-terms can all contribute to the Electric Dipole Moment (EDM) of the electron. We discuss and classify the situations for which by combined analysis of the upcoming results on $d_e$, $d_{\rm Hg}$ and $d_D$ discriminating between these sources will be possible.

Higgs boson couplings to quarks with supersymmetric CP and flavor violations

In minimal supersymmetric model (SUSY) with a light Higgs sector, explicit CP violation and most general flavor mixings in the sfermion sector, integration of the superpartners out of the spectrum induces potentially large contributions to the Yukawa couplings of light quarks via those of the heavier ones. These corrections can be sizeable even for moderate values of tan(beta), and remain nonvanishing even if all superpartners decouple. When the SUSY breaking scale is close to the electroweak scale, the Higgs exchange effects can compete with the gauge boson and box diagram contributions to rare processes, and their partial cancellations can lead to relaxation of the existing bounds on flavor violation sources. In this case there exist sizeable enhancements in flavor-changing Higgs decays. When the superpartners completely decouple, however, the Higgs mediation becomes the dominant SUSY contribution to rare processes the saturation of which, without a strong suppression of the flavor mixings, prefers large tan(beta) and certain ranges for the CP-odd phases. The decay rate of the lightest Higgs into light down quarks become comparable with that into the bottom quark. Moreover, the Higgs decay into the up quark is significantly enhanced. There are observable implications for rare processes, atomic electric dipole moments, and collider searches for Higgs bosons.

CP Violation in Supersymmetric U(1)' Models

The supersymmetric CP problem is studied within superstring-motivated extensions of the MSSM with an additional U(1)' gauge symmetry broken at the TeV scale. This class of models offers an attractive solution to the mu problem of the MSSM, in which U(1)' gauge invariance forbids the bare mu term, but an effective mu parameter is generated by the vacuum expectation value of a Standard Model singlet S which has superpotential coupling of the form SH_uH_d to the electroweak Higgs doublets. The effective mu parameter is thus dynamically determined as a function of the soft supersymmetry breaking parameters, and can be complex if the soft parameters have nontrivial CP-violating phases. We examine the phenomenological constraints on the reparameterization invariant phase combinations within this framework, and find that the supersymmetric CP problem can be greatly alleviated in models in which the phase of the SU(2) gaugino mass parameter is aligned with the soft trilinear scalar mass parameter associated with the SH_uH_d coupling. We also study how the phases filter into the Higgs sector, and find that while the Higgs sector conserves CP at the renormalizable level to all orders of perturbation theory, CP violation can enter at the nonrenormalizable level at one-loop order. In the majority of the parameter space, the lightest Higgs boson remains essentially CP even but the heavier Higgs bosons can exhibit large CP-violating mixings, similar to the CP-violating MSSM with large mu parameter.

Hadronic EDMs, the Weinberg Operator, and Light Gluinos

We re-examine questions concerning the contribution of the three-gluon Weinberg operator to the electric dipole moment of the neutron, and provide several QCD sum rule-based arguments that the result is smaller than - but nevertheless consistent with - estimates which invoke naive dimensional analysis. We also point out a regime of the MSSM parameter space with light gluinos for which this operator provides the dominant contribution to the neutron electric dipole moment due to enhancement via the dimension five color electric dipole moment of the gluino.

Preserving the Lepton Asymmetry in the Brane World

In models where the Standard Model spectrum is localized on a brane embedded in a higher dimensional spacetime, we discuss the lepton number violation induced by the emission of right-handed neutrinos from the brane. We show that quite generically the presence of the right-handed neutrinos in the bulk leads to rapid lepton number violating processes which above the electroweak scale would wash away any prior lepton or baryon asymmetry. In order to preserve the lepton asymmetry, the brane-bulk couplings for at least one lepton flavor must be extremely suppressed. We show that this has a natural interpretation in the brane world.

The Forward-Backward Asymmetry of B to (pi,K) l^+ l^-: Supersymmetry at Work

We analyze the forward-backward asymmetry of the decays B to (pi,K) l^+ l^- with l = mu or tau in the framework of the constrained minimal supersymmetric standard model. We find that, the asymmetry is enhanced at large tan beta and depends strongly on the sign of the mu parameter. For mu > 0, the asymmetry is typically large and observable whereas for mu < 0, it changes the sign and is suppressed by an order of magnitude. Including cosmological constraints we find that the asymmetry has a maximal value of about 30 %, produced when Higgs- and gauge- induced flavor violations are of comparable size, at a value of tan beta simeq 35. The present constraints from the B-factories are too weak to constrain parameter space, and the regions excluded by them are already disfavoured by at least one of B to X_s gamma, g-2, and/or cosmology. The size of the asymmetry is mainly determined by the flavor of the final state lepton rather than the flavor of the pseudoscalar.

Flavordynamics with Conformal Matter and Gauge Theories on Compact Hyperbolic Manifolds in Extra Dimensions

We outline a toy model in which a unique mechanism may trigger a dynamical chain resulting in key low-energy regularities. The starting points are a negative cosmological term in the bulk and conformally invariant nongravity sector. These elements ensure compactification of the extra dimensional space on a compact hyperbolic manifold (with the negative and constant scalar curvature). The overall geometry is then M_4 x B_n. The negative curvature on B_n triggers the formation of the four-dimensional defect which provides in turn a dynamical localization of ordinary particles. It also leads, simultaneously, to a spontaneous breaking of gauge symmetry through a Higgs mechanism. Masses of the fermions, gauge bosons and scalars all derive from the curvature of the internal manifold such that the Higgs boson is generally heavier than the gauge bosons. The factorizable geometry M_4 x B_n and flatness of M_4 require fine-tuning.

B -> X_s gamma in Supersymmetry with Explicit CP Violation

We discuss B -> X_s gamma decay in both constrained and unconstrained supersymmetric models with explicit CP violation within the minimal flavor violation scheme by including tan(beta) -enhanced large contributions beyond the leading order. In this analysis, we take into account the relevant cosmological and collider bounds, as well as electric dipole moment constraints. In the unconstrained model, there are portions of the parameter space yielding a large CP asymmetry at leading order (LO). In these regions, we find that the CP phases satisfy certain sum rules, e.g., the sum of the phases of the μparameter and the stop trilinear coupling centralize around πwith a width determined by the experimental bounds. In addition, at large values of tan(beta), the sign of the CP asymmetry tracks the sign of the gluino mass, and the CP asymmetry is significantly larger than the LO prediction. In the constrained minimal supersymmetric standard model based on minimal supergravity, we find that the decay rate is sensitive to the phase of the universal trilinear coupling. This sensitivity decreases at large values of the universal gauino mass. We also show that for a given set of the mass parameters, there exists a threshold value of the phase of the universal trilinear coupling which grows with tan(beta) and beyond which the experimental bounds are satisfied. In both supersymmetric scenarios, the allowed ranges of the CP phases are wide enough to have phenomenological consequences.

Realistic Gluino Axion Model Consistent with Supersymmetry Breaking at the TeV Scale

The recently proposed model of using the dynamical phase of the gluino to solve the strong CP problem is shown to admit a specific realization in terms of fundamental singlet superfields, such that the breaking of supersymmetry occurs only at the TeV scale, despite the large axion scale of 10^{9} to 10^{12} GeV. Phenomenological implications are discussed.

The b-quark EDM in SUSY and CP-odd bottomonium formation

We compute the electric dipole moment (EDM) of the bottom quark in minimal supersymmetric model (SUSY) with explicit CP violation. We estimate its upper bound to be 10^(-20) e-cm where the dominant contribution comes from the charginos for most of the SUSY parameter space. We also find that chargino contribution is directly correlated with the branching fraction of the B\to X_s γdecay. Furthermore, we analyze the formation of 1 P_1 resonance of the (\bar{b}b) system in e^+ e^- annihilation, and show that the CP-violating transition amplitude, induced solely by the b-quark EDM, is significantly larger than the CP-conserving ones. Therefore, observation of this CP-odd resonance in e^+ e^- annihilation will be a direct probe of the CP-violating phases in SUSY. In case experiment cannot establish the existence of such a CP-odd (\bar{b}b) state, then either sparticle masses of all three generations will be pushed well above TeV, weakening the possibility of weak-scale SUSY, or the sparticle mass spectrum will be tuned so as to cancel different contributions to EDMs.

Stable Q-balls from extra dimensions

Given a bulk scalar field with sufficient self-interactions in a higher dimensional spacetime, it is shown that the continuous symmetries in four dimensions, induced by the topological structure of the compact manifold, naturally lead to formation of stable nontopological solitons of Q-ball type. The mass per unit charge inside the soliton is bounded by the size of the extra dimensions, and it is thus stable with respect to decaying into excited levels of all bulk fields, irrespective of their bulk masses. A familiar example is the Standard Model in the bulk, where the Kaluza-Klein levels of the Higgs boson form a stable Q-ball. These stable solitons are natural candidates for the dark matter in the Universe.

Dynamical relaxation of the CP phases in next-to-minimal supersymmetry

After promoting the phases of the soft masses to dynamical fields corresponding to Goldstone bosons of spontaneously broken global symmetries in the supersymmetry breaking sector, the next-to-minimal supersymmetric model is found to solve the $μ$ problem and the strong CP problem simultaneously with an invisible axion. The domain wall problem persists in the form of axionic domain formation. Relaxation dynamics of the physical CP-violating phases is determined only by the short-distance physics and their relaxation values are not necessarily close to the CP-conserving points. Having observable supersymmetric CP violation and avoiding the axionic domain walls both require nonminimal flavor structures.

Neutrino Masses and the Gluino Axion Model

We extend the recently proposed gluino axion model to include neutrino masses. We discuss how the canonical seesaw model and the Higgs triplet model may be realized in this framework. In the former case, the heavy singlet neutrinos are contained in superfields which do not have any vacuum expectation value, whereas the gluino axion is contained in one which does. We also construct a specific renormalizable model which realizes the mass scale relationship $M_{SUSY} \sim f_a^2/M_U$, where $f_a$ is the axion decay constant and $M_U$ is a large effective mass parameter.

Relaxation of the Dynamical Gluino Phase and Unambiguous Electric Dipole Moments

We propose a new axionic solution of the strong CP problem with a Peccei-Quinn mechanism using the gluino rather than quarks. The spontaneous breaking of this new global U(1) at 10^{11} GeV also generates the supersymmetry breaking scale of 1 TeV (solving the so-called μproblem at the same time) and results in the MSSM (Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model) with R parity conservation. In this framework, electric dipole moments become calculable without ambiguity.

Q-ball formation in the MSSM with explicit CP violation

Q-balls generically exist in the supersymmetric extensions of the standard model. Taking into account the additional sources of CP violation, which are naturally accomodated by the supersymmetric models, it is shown that the Q-ball matter depends additively on individual CP phases, whereas mass per unit charge in the Q-ball depends only on the relative phases. There are regions of the parameter space where there is no stable Q-ball solution in the CP-conserving limit whereas finite CP phases induce a stable Q-ball.

CP violation as a probe of flavor origin in Supersymmetry

We address the question of the relation between supersymmetry breaking and the origin of flavor in the context of CP violating phenomena. We prove that, in the absence of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa phase, a general Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model with all possible phases in the soft-breaking terms, but no new flavor structure beyond the usual Yukawa matrices, can never give a sizeable contribution to $ε_K$, $ε^\prime/ε$ or hadronic $B^0$ CP asymmetries. Observation of supersymmetric contributions to CP asymmetries in B decays would hint at a non-flavor blind mechanism of supersymmetry breaking.
