Analytic approach to the complete set of QED corrections to fermion pair production in e+e- annihilation

We present the convolution integral for fermion pair production in the electroweak standard theory to order O(alpha) including also soft photon exponentiation. The result is complete in the sense that it includes initial and final state radiation and their interference. From the basic result - analytic formulae for the differential cross section - we also derive the corresponding expressions for total cross section and integrated forward-backward asymmetry. The numerical importance of different contributions for the analysis of experiments at LEP/SLC energies is discussed.

QED Corrections for Polarized Elastic MU-E Scattering

We present a new study of polarized elastic muon-electron scattering. The Born cross-section is calculated for arbitrary polarization of muon and electron. The complete photonic O(alpha) radiative corrections are determined for the case of longitudinally polarized muons and electrons. All calculations are done by two methods: semianalytic, which allows an implementation of the experimental cuts used for the analysis of MU-E scattering data from the beam polarimeter of the SMC experiment at CERN and completely analytic, which is used for cross checks The FORTRAN code MUELA realizes formulae of both approaches. We prove that certain experimental cuts lead to negligible radiative corrections in the muon beam polarization experiment.

O(α) QED Corrections to Polarized Elastic $μe$ and Deep Inelastic l N Scattering

Two computer codes relevant for the description of deep inelastic scattering off polarized targets are discussed. The code $μ$ela deals with radiative corrections to elastic $μe$ scattering, one method applied for muon beam polarimetry. The code HECTOR allows to calculate both the radiative corrections for unpolarized and polarized deep inelastic scattering, including higher order QED corrections.

$O(α)$ QED Corrections to Neutral Current Polarized Deep-Inelastic Lepton-Nucleon Scattering

The $O(α)$ leptonic QED corrections to neutral current polarized deep inelastic lepton-nucleon scattering are calculated in leptonic variables both for the case of longitudinal and transverse nucleon polarization. The results of the complete calculation are compared with the corresponding leading log expressions. Numerical results are presented for the corrections in the kinematic range of the HERMES experiment and possible future polarized proton beam experiments at HERA.

GENTLE/4fan v.2.0 - A Program for the Semi-Analytic Calculation of Predictions for the Process e+e- -> 4f

We describe version 2.0 of the Fortran program GENTLE/4fan for the semi-analytic computation of cross-sections and distributions in four-fermion production in e+e- annihilation. GENTLE/4fan covers all charged current and neutral current our-fermion final states with no identical particles, no electrons, and no electron neutrinos in the final state. Initial state radiation representing the most relevant quantum corrections and anomalous triple gauge boson couplings have been included.

Deep Inelastic Scattering with Tagged Photons at HERA

We calculate cross-sections for neutral current deep inelastic scattering at HERA with photon tagging. Both the exact lowest-order cross-section and a leading logarithmic approximation of next-order corrections are calculated. The latter amounts to less than 20% in a large kinematical range. The integrations are performed numerically but without relying on Monte Carlo methods.

Recent Developments in Radiative Corrections at HERA

We describe several numerical results for radiative corrections for deep inelastic $ep$ scattering at HERA which are calculated using the HECTOR package. We present radiative corrections for ten different choices of kinematical variables for unpolarized neutral and charged current deep inelastic scattering. Radiative corrections for neutral current scattering off polarized protons are calculated in leptonic variables and compared to those obtained by the POLRAD code for the kinematic regime of the HERMES experiment.

GENTLE/4fan - A package of Fortran programs for the description of e+ e- annihilation into four fermions

We describe the program package gentle/4fan, which consists of the Fortran codes gentle\_4fan.f, 4fan.f, and gentle\_nc\_qed.f and is devoted to the description of e+ e- annihilation into four fermions. The codes are based on the semi-analytical approach. Initial state QED corrections are taken into account. The program versions, which are described here were used in the 1995 workshop `Physics at LEP~2'.

Semi-Analytical Approach to Off-Shell W and Z Pair Production

We give a short review of the results for four fermion production, which have been obtained by the semi-analytical approach. The angular degrees of freedom (typically five or more) are integrated over analytically while the integrations over invariant fermion pair masses (typically two or more) remain to be performed by numerical methods. In addition to doubly resonating cross sections from virtual two boson production, QED corrections and background contributions were determined. However, a large variety of final state topologies has not been treated so far.

Higgs Physics at LEP2

In this report we review the prospects for Higgs physics at LEP2. The theoretical aspects and the phenomenology of Higgs particles are discussed within the Standard Model (SM) and the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). The experimental search techniques are described and the discovery limits for Higgs bosons in the LEP2 energy range are summarized. In addition, opportunities of detecting Higgs particles in non-minimal extensions of the SM and the MSSM are investigated.

HECTOR 1.00 - A program for the calculation of QED, QCD and electroweak corrections to ep and lN deep inelastic neutral and charged current scattering

A description of the Fortran program HECTOR for a variety of semi-analytical calculations of radiative QED, QCD, and electroweak corrections to the double-differential cross sections of NC and CC deep inelastic charged lepton proton (or lepton deuteron) scattering is presented. HECTOR originates from the substantially improved and extended earlier programs HELIOS and TERAD91. It is mainly intended for applications at HERA or LEPxLHC, but may be used also for muon scattering in fixed target experiments. The QED corrections may be calculated in different sets of variables: leptonic, hadronic, mixed, Jaquet-Blondel, double angle etc. Besides the leading logarithmic approximation up to order O(alpha^2), exact order O(alpha) corrections and inclusive soft photon exponentiation are taken into account. The photoproduction region is also covered.

ZFITTER -- An Analytical Program for Fermion Pair Production in e+e- Annihilation

We describe how to use ZFITTER, a program based on a semi-analytical approach to fermion pair production in e+e- annihilation and Bhabha scattering. A flexible treatment of complete ${\cal O}(α)$ QED corrections, also including higher orders, allows for three calculational {\bf chains} with different realistic sets of restrictions in the photon phase space. {\tt ZFITTER} consists of several {\bf branches} with varying assumptions on the underlying hard scattering process. One includes complete ${\cal O}(α)$ weak loop corrections with a resummation of leading higher-order terms. Alternatively, an ansatz inspired from S-matrix theory, or several model-independent effective Born cross sections may be convoluted. The program calculates cross sections, forward-backward asymmetries, and for $τ$~pair production also the final-state polarization. Various {\bf interfaces} allow fits to be performed with different sets of free parameters.

Complete O($α$) QED corrections to the process $ep \to eX$ in mixed variables

The complete set of ${\cal O}(α)$ QED corrections with soft photon exponentiation to the process $ep \rightarrow eX$ in mixed variables ($y=y_h,Q^2=Q_l^2$) is calculated in the quark parton model, including the lepton-quark interference and the quarkonic corrections which were unknown so far. The interference corrections amount to few percent or less and become negligible at small $x$. The leading logarithmic terms proportional to $\ln(Q^2/m_q^2)$ from radiation off quarks are discussed and the non-logarithmic quarkonic corrections found to be negligible for almost all experimentally accessible $x$ and $y$.

Off-shell $W$-pair production in $e^+ e^-$-annihilation. Initial state radiation

With a current-splitting technique, we calculate the gauge-invariant initial-state radiation to order \oalf\ with soft-photon exponentiation for on- and off-shell $W$-pair production. This result generalizes the convolution formula, which is known from the description of the $Z$ resonance, to the case of the production of two $W$-bosons. After up to eightfold analytical integrations, a sufficiently smooth integral over three invariant masses remains to be treated numerically. Including the Coulomb singularity, the largest corrections are covered. We discuss the corrections in a large energy range up to $\sqrt{s}$=1~TeV and draw numerical conclusions on their influence on the $W$-mass determination at LEP~200. Table~1 and figure~5 are revised after correcting the analytical formulae for the nonuniversal corrections.
