Effective Lifshitz-Born-Infeld black holes from general covariance breaking

In this work we present an effective Lifshitz black hole solution with Born-Infeld electrodynamics and explore some of its properties. We discuss the mechanism for capturing the solution, achieved through diffeomorphism invariance breaking, study the emergent causal structure, and analyze aspects of critical behavior and local stability in the associated thermodynamics.

Zero modes and geometric phase for 2D Weyl fermions on Lifshitz backgrounds

Here we investigate analytical properties of Weyl fermions in (2+1)-dimensional Lifshitz spacetimes. In particular, we are interested in obtaining geometric phases and verifying the existence of well-behaved fermionic zero modes. Using the Dirac phase method, we show how geometric phases naturally arise from the coupling between the fermionic fields and the Lifshitz geometry. We also present exact solutions of the zero modes by rewriting the Weyl equation as a system of supersymmetric equations.

Effective Lifshitz black holes, hydrodynamics, and transport coefficients in fluid/gravity correspondence

Effective Lifshitz black holes with arbitrary dynamical exponent are addressed in the fluid/gravity membrane paradigm. The transport and the response coefficients in the dual Lifshitz field theory are calculated and analyzed, including the charge diffusion constant and the shear mode damping constant, along with the shear-viscosity-to-entropy density ratio. The Kubo formula is employed to obtain the electrical DC conductivity for the gauge sector corresponding to impurity through the holographic linear response of gauge vector fluctuations in the Lifshitz black brane geometry.

Rotation effects on the graphene wormhole energy levels

In this work, we are interested in how spinning effects influence the electronic properties of the graphene wormhole. For this purpose, we have described the graphene by the wormhole background based on the model developed by González and his co-workers. By applying a coordinate transformation in the metric of graphene wormhole, we can introduce rotating effects. In the continuum limit, by solving the massless Dirac equation in the context of a rotating wormhole background, we obtain the Landau levels for the rotating graphene wormhole. We still have exposed the analogy between the graphene wormhole and fermions on the Gödel-type spacetime.

Spatially localized scalar structures on hyperscaling violating geometries

In this work, we investigate probe scalar field models preserving covariance on fixed, static background geometries that present hyperscaling violation properties. We develop a first-order framework that rises from restrictions on the dynamical and hyperscaling violating exponents. The results show that stable, analytical kink-like solutions and their respective energy densities can be obtained for a general class of models. In the canonical model, in particular, these solutions minimize the energy of the system.

Charged Lifshitz black holes from general covariance breaking

In this work we use a general covariance breaking method to obtain a class of topological charged black holes whose background geometry asymptotically approaches Lifshitz spacetimes. We discuss how this mechanism affects Einstein's equations and explore the thermodynamics and critical behavior of the solution found.

Localized scalar structures around static black holes

In this work we address a way to capture scalar field solutions on static spacetimes by using BPS formalism and relaxing the general covariance condition. We focus on configurations where the background geometry describes topological black holes and present both analytical and numerical solutions, in addition to discussing the use of conserved charges associated to such field configurations. The obtained solutions are radially stable and the zero-mode arising from the stability equation can be written analytically.

Scalar fields and Lifshitz black holes from Derrick's theorem evasion

We study classical scalar fields in asymptotically Lifshitz spacetimes. By evading Derrick's theorem requiring the scalar potential to explicitly depend on the background coordinates, we induce a diffeomorphism invariance breaking and settle a first-order formalism to find spatially localized solutions in the probe field limit. By inserting a backreaction equipped with a cosmological constant and a Maxwell term coupled to a dielectric function in the model, we find a Lifshitz black hole solution.

Fermions in the presence of topological structures under geometric constrictions

In this work we study modifications of the spectrum of fermions interacting with kinklike structures in two-dimensional spacetime. We consider the Yukawa coupling between fermions and scalar fields that engender nontrivial internal structure and investigate how the fermion spectra change in terms of the parameters that control the kinklike configuration and the Yukawa coupling. We consider models that allow the internal structure of the kinklike solution to respond to the presence of a geometrical constriction, and show the fermion spectra may also appear directly affected by the constriction. The main results are of current interest and may be used to propose the construction of electronic devices capable of engendering new effects at the nanometric scale.

First order formalism for thick branes in modified gravity with Lagrange multiplier

This work discuss the construction of braneworld solutions in modified gravity with Lagrange multipliers. We examine the general aspects of the model and present a first order formalism that help us to find analytic solutions of the equations of motion. We also investigate some explicit models, analyse linear stability of the metric and comment on how to relate models investigated in other works to the ones examined in the present study.

Graphene wormhole trapped by external magnetic field

In this work we study the behavior of massless fermions in a graphene wormhole and in the presence of an external magnetic field. The graphene wormhole is made from two sheets of graphene that play the roles of asymptotically flat spaces connected through a carbon nanotube with a zig-zag boundary. We solve the massless Dirac equation in this geometry and analyze its wave function. We show that the energy spectra of these solutions exhibit similar behavior to Landau levels.

Configurational Entropy for Skyrmion-like Magnetic Structures

In this work we explore the relationship between two ideas recently introduced in the literature. The first one deals with a quantity related to the informational contents of solutions of spatially localized structures, and the second consists of obtaining analytical solutions to describe skyrmion-like structures in magnetic materials. In particular, we use the topological charge density to extract information on the configurational entropy of the magnetic structure.

Analytical study of kinklike structures with polynomial tails

This work deals with models described by a single real scalar field in two-dimensional spacetime. The aim is to propose potentials that support massless minima and investigate the presence of kinklike structures that engender polynomial tails. The results unveil the presence of families of asymmetric solutions with energy density and linear stability that behave adequately, enhancing the importance of the analytical study. We stress that the novel topological structures which we find in this work engender long range interactions that are of current interest to statistical mechanics, dipolar quantum gases and the study of quantum information with Rydberg atoms.

Fermion bound states in geometrically deformed backgrounds

This work deals with the behavior of fermions in the background of kinklike structures in the two-dimensional spacetime. The kinklike structures appear from bosonic scalar field models that engender distinct profiles and interact with the fermion fields via the standard Yukawa coupling. We first consider two models that engender parity symmetry, one leading to the exclusion of fermion bound states, and the other to the inclusion of bound states, when the parameter that controls the bosonic structure varies from zero to unity. We then go on and investigate another model where the kinklike solution explicitly breaks parity symmetry, leading to fermion bound states that are spatially asymmetric.

From sine-Gordon to vacuumless systems in flat and curved spacetimes

In this work we start from the Higgs prototype model to introduce a new model, which makes a smooth transition between systems with well located minima and systems that support no minima at all. We implement this possibility using the deformation procedure, which allows the obtention of a sine-Gordon-like model, controlled by a real parameter that gives rise to a family of models, reproducing the sine-Gordon and the so-called vacuumless models. We also study the thick brane scenarios associated with these models and investigate their stability and renormalization group flow. In particular, one shows how gravity can change from the 5-dimensional warped geometry with a single extra dimension of infinite extent to the conventional 5-dimensional Minkowski geometry.

New models for asymmetric kinks and branes

We investigate new models for scalar fields in flat and curved spacetime. We note that the global reflection symmetry of the potential that identify the scalar field model does not exclude the presence of internal asymmetries that give rise to asymmetric structures. Despite the asymmetry, the new structures are linearly stable and in the braneworld scenario with an extra dimension of infinite extend, they may generate new families of asymmetric thick branes that are robust against small fluctuations in the warped geometry.

New braneworld models in the presence of auxiliary fields

We study braneworld models in the presence of auxiliary fields. We use the first-order framework to investigate several distinct possibilities, where the standard braneworld scenario changes under the presence of the parameter that controls the auxiliary fields introduced to modify Einstein's equation. The results add to previous ones, to show that the minimal modification that we investigate contributes to change quantitatively the thick braneworld profile, although no new qualitative effect is capable of being induced by the minimal modification here considered.

How to build a compact brane

This work deals with braneworld models in a five dimensional curved geometry with a single extra dimension of infinite extent. The investigation introduces a new family of models, generated from a source scalar field that supports kinklike structures described through the presence of a real parameter, capable of controlling the thickness of the warp factor that describes the five dimensional geometry. The mechanism shows how to get a brane that engenders a compact profile.
