Effect of tilt and twist angles on the cleavage crack propagation

We report the mechanism of cleavage crack deviation at grain boundaries. A fracture mechanics based model has been developed to combine the effect of tilt and twist angles between cleavage planes on the reduction in normalized energy release rate. Furthermore, electron back-scatter diffraction analysis on cleavage fracture surface has been carried out. The microstructural features associated with the presence of tilt and twist angle at the grain boundary have been identified and found to be consistent with the prediction from the analytical model.

Duality and approximation of Bergman spaces

Expected duality and approximation properties are shown to fail on Bergman spaces of domains in $\mathbb{C}^n$, via examples. When the domain admits an operator satisfying certain mapping properties, positive duality and approximation results are proved. Such operators are constructed on generalized Hartogs triangles. On a general bounded Reinhardt domain, norm convergence of Laurent series of Bergman functions is shown. This extends a classical result on Hardy spaces of the unit disc.

Mixed action with Borici-Creutz fermions on staggered sea

Mixed action lattice QCD with Borici-Creutz valence quarks on staggered sea is investigated. The counter terms in Borici-Creutz action are fixed nonperturbatively to restore the broken parity and time symmetries. On symmetry restoration, the usual signatures of partial quenching / unitarity violation like negative scalar correlator are observed. The size of unitarity violation due to different discretization of valence and sea quark is determined by measuring $Δ_{\rm mix}$ and is found to be comparable with other mixed action studies.

Quark Wigner distributions and spin-spin correlations

We investigate the Wigner distributions for $u$ and $d$ quarks in a light-front quark-diquark model of a proton to unravel the spatial and spin structure. The light-front wave functions are modeled from the soft-wall AdS/QCD prediction. We consider the contributions from both the scalar and the axial vector diquarks. The Wigner distributions for unpolarized, longitudinally polarized, and transversely polarized protons are presented in the transverse momentum plane as well as in the transverse impact parameter plane. The Wigner distributions satisfy a Soffer-bound-type inequality. We also evaluate all the leading twist GTMDs and show their scale evolution. The spin-spin correlations between the quark and the proton are investigated

Mass spectroscopy using Borici-Creutz fermion on 2D lattice

Minimally doubled fermion proposed by Creutz and Borici is a promising chiral fermion formulation on lattice. In this work, we present excited state mass spectroscopy for the meson bound states in Gross-Neveu model using Borici-Creutz fermion. We also evaluate the effective fermion mass as a function of coupling constant which shows a chiral phase transition at strong coupling. The lowest lying meson in 2-dimensional QED is also obtained using Borici-Creutz fermion.

The role of crystallographic orientation of martensitic variants on cleavage crack propagation

Cleavage crack propagation has been investigated in a low-carbon lath-martensitic steel using electron back-scattered diffraction technique. The ability of different martensitic boundaries within prior-austenite grain, such as sub-block, block and packet boundaries to resist cleavage crack propagation has been estimated in terms of Kurdjumov-Sachs crystallographic variants. Crystallographic study of crack path indicated that block boundaries are more effective in cleavage crack deviation as compared to packet boundaries, whilst sub-block boundaries are ineffective in that respect. Moreover, characterizing the boundaries in terms of misorientation angle (angle-axis pair) may be misleading if their effectiveness in retarding cleavage crack propagation is considered.

Wigner distributions and orbital angular momentum of a proton

The Wigner distributions for u and d quarks in a proton are calculated using the light front wave functions (LFWFs) of the scalar quark-diquark model for nucleon constructed from the soft-wall AdS/QCD correspondence. We present a detail study of the quark orbital angular momentum(OAM) and its correlation with quark spin and proton spin. The quark density distributions, considering the different polarizations of quarks and proton, in transverse momentum plane as well as in transverse impact parameter plane are presented for both u and d quarks.

Relating transverse structure of various parton distributions

We present the results of T-even TMDs in a light front quark-diquark model of nucleons with the wave functions constructed from the soft-wall AdS/QCD prediction. The relations amongst TMDs are discussed. The $p_\perp$ dependence of the TMDs are compared with the $t$-dependence of the GPDs. AdS/QCD wave function provides an explanation behind the approximate $x$ and $p_\perp$ factorization observed in lattice TMD calculations.

Gross-Neveu model with Borici-Creutz fermion

We investigate the chiral phase structure of the Gross-Neveu model on a 2-D lattice using the Borici-Creutz fermion action. We present a strong coupling analysis of the Gross-Neveu model and perform a hybrid Monte Carlo simulation of the model with Borici-Creutz fermions. Both analytic and lattice results show a second order chiral phase transition.

Generalized parton distributions in a light-front nonperturbative approach

Basis Light-front Quantization (BLFQ) has recently been developed as a promising nonperturbative technique. Using BLFQ, we investigate the Generalized Parton Distributions (GPDs) in a nonperturbative framework for a dressed electron in QED. We evaluate light-front wave functions and carry out overlap calculations to obtain GPDs. We also perform perturbative calculations in the corresponding basis spaces to demonstrate that they compare reasonably with the BLFQ results.

Generalized Parton Distributions for the Proton in Position Space : Non-Zero Skewness

We investigate the generalized parton distributions (GPDs) for u and d quarks in a proton in transverse and longitudinal position space using a recent phenomenological parametrization. We take nonzero skewness ζand consider the region x> ζ. Impact parameter space representation of the GPD E is found to depend sharply on the parameters used within the model, in particular in the low x region. In longitudinal position space a diffraction pattern is observed, as seen before in several other model

Generalized Parton Distributions of the Proton in Position Space : Zero Skewness

We present a study of the parton distributions in transverse position or impact parameter space using a recent parametrization of u and d quark generalized parton distributions (GPDs) $H(x,t)$ and $E(x,t)$ at zero skewness. We make a comparative study between different parametrizations and discuss the region of validity of the positivity condition.

Chiral Odd and Chiral Even Generalized Parton Distributions in Position Space

We present the chiral odd generalized parton distributions (GPDs) for non-zero skewness $ζ$ in transverse and longitudinal position spaces by taking Fourier transform with respect to the transverse and longitudinal momentum transfer respectively using overlaps of light-front wave functions (LFWFs) in a simple model. We also present the chiral even GPDs in positon space in a phenomenological model.

Chiral Odd Generalized Parton Distributions in Position Space

We report on a calculation of the chiral odd generalized parton distributions (GPDs) for non-zero skewness $ζ$ in transverse and longitudinal position spaces by taking Fourier transform with respect to the transverse and longitudinal momentum transfer respectively using overlaps of light-front wave functions (LFWFs).

Chiral odd GPDs in transverse and longitudinal impact parameter spaces

We investigate the chiral odd generalized parton distributions (GPDs) for non-zero skewness $ζ$ in transverse and longitudinal position spaces by taking Fourier transform with respect to the transverse and longitudinal momentum transfer respectively. We present overlap formulas for the chiral-odd GPDs in terms of light-front wave functions (LFWFs) of the proton both in the ERBL and DGLAP regions. We calculate them in a field theory inspired model of a relativistic spin 1/2 composite state with the correct correlation between the different LFWFs in Fock space, namely that of the quantum fluctuations of an electron in a generalized form of QED. We show the spin-orbit correlation effect of the two-particle LFWF as well as the correlation between the constituent spin and the transverse spin of the target.

Hadron Optics in Three-Dimensional Invariant Coordinate Space from Deeply Virtual Compton Scattering

The Fourier transform of the deeply virtual Compton scattering amplitude (DVCS) with respect to the skewness parameter ζ= Q^2/ 2 p.q can be used to provide an image of the target hadron in the boost-invariant variable σ, the coordinate conjugate to light-front time τ=t+ z/ c. As an illustration, we construct a consistent covariant model of the DVCS amplitude and its associated generalized parton distributions using the quantum fluctuations of a fermion state at one loop in QED, thus providing a representation of the light-front wavefunctions of a lepton in σspace. A consistent model for hadronic amplitudes can then be obtained by differentiating the light-front wavefunctions with respect to the bound-state mass. The resulting DVCS helicity amplitudes are evaluated as a function of σand the impact parameter \vec b_\perp, thus providing a light-front image of the target hadron in a frame-independent three-dimensional light-front coordinate space. Models for the LFWFs of hadrons in (3+1) dimensions displaying confinement at large distances and conformal symmetry at short distances have been obtained using the AdS/CFT method. We also compute the LFWFs in this model in invariant three dimensional coordinate space. We find that in the models studied, the Fourier transform of the DVCS amplitudes exhibit diffraction patterns. The results are analogous to the diffractive scattering of a wave in optics where the distribution in σmeasures the physical size of the scattering center in a one-dimensional system.

Hadron Optics: Diffraction Patterns in Deeply Virtual Compton Scattering

We show that the Fourier transform of the Deeply Virtual Compton Scattering (DVCS) amplitude with respect to the skewness variable $ζ$ at fixed invariant momentum transfer squared $t$ provides a unique way to visualize the structure of the target hadron in the boost-invariant longitudinal coordinate space. The results are analogous to the diffractive scattering of a wave in optics. As a specific example, we utilize the quantum fluctuations of a fermion state at one loop in QED to obtain the behavior of the DVCS amplitude for electron-photon scattering. We then simulate the wavefunctions for a hadron by differentiating the above LFWFs with respect to $M^2$ and study the corresponding DVCS amplitudes in light-front longitudinal space. In both cases we observe that the diffractive patterns in the longitudinal variable conjugate to $ζ$ sharpen and the positions of the first minima move in with increasing momentum transfer. For fixed $t$, higher minima appear at positions which are integral multiples of the lowest minimum. Both these observations strongly support the analogy with diffraction in optics.
