Tunneling transition to the Pomeron regime

We point out that, in some models of small-x hard processes, the transition to the Pomeron regime occurs through a sudden tunneling effect, rather than a slow diffusion process. We explain the basis for such a feature and we illustrate it for the BFKL equation with running coupling by gluon rapidity versus scale correlation plots.

Expanding running coupling effects in the hard Pomeron

We study QCD hard processes at scales of order k^2 > Lambda^2 in the limit in which the beta-function coefficient - b is taken to be small, but alphas(k) is kept fixed. The (nonperturbative) Pomeron is exponentially suppressed in this limit, making it possible to define purely perturbative high-energy Green's functions. The hard Pomeron exponent acquires diffusion and running coupling corrections which can be expanded in the b parameter and turn out to be dependent on the effective coupling b alphas^2 Y. We provide a general setup for this b-expansion and we calculate the first few terms both analytically and numerically.

The NLO Jet Vertex for Mueller-Navelet and Forward Jets: the Quark Part

We calculate the next-to-leading corrections to the jet vertex which is relevant for the Mueller-Navelet-jets production in p-pbar collisions and for the forward jet cross section in e-p collisions. In this first part we present the results of the vertex for an incoming quark. Particular emphasis is given to the separation of the collinear divergent part and the central region of the produced gluon.

Diffractive eta_c photo-and electroproduction with the perturbative QCD Odderon

Using a set of new odderon states, we calculate their contribution to the diffractive eta_c photo- and electroproduction process. Compared to previous simple 3-gluon exchange calculations we find an enhancement of about one order of magnitude in the cross section. The t-dependence of the cross section exhibits a dip structure in the small t region.

Small-x Processes in Perturbative Quantum Chromodynamics

Starting from a rewiev of DGLAP and BFKL evolution equations for small-x processes, a sistematic study is performed in order to understand the limits of both the formulations and to improve them in a unique framework, which aims to cover the whole range of applicability of perturbative QCD and which describes the transition mechanism from perturbative to non-perturbative physics in the region where unitarity contributions are expected not to be important.

A collinear model for small-x physics

We propose a simple model for studying small-x physics in which we take only the collinearly enhanced part of leading and subleading kernels, for all possible transverse momentum orderings. The small-x equation reduces to a second order differential equation in t=log k^2/Lambda^2 space, whose perturbative and strong-coupling features are investigated both analytically and numerically. For two-scale processes, we clarify the transition mechanism between the perturbative, non Regge regime and the strong-coupling Pomeron behavior.

Renormalization Group Improved Small-x Equation

We propose and analyze an improved small-x equation which incorporates exact leading and next-to-leading BFKL kernels on one hand and renormalization group constraints in the relevant collinear limits on the other. We work out in detail the recently proposed omega-expansion of the solution, derive the Green's function factorization properties and discuss both the gluon anomalous dimension and the hard pomeron. The resummed results are stable, nearly renormalization-scheme independent, and join smoothly with the fixed order perturbative regime. Two critical hard pomeron exponents are provided, which - for reasonable strong-coupling extrapolations - are argued to provide bounds on the pomeron intercept.

The BFKL Equation at Next-to-Leading Order and Beyond

On the basis of a renormalization group analysis of the kernel and of the solutions of the BFKL equation with subleading corrections, we propose and calculate a novel expansion of a properly defined effective eigenvalue function. We argue that in this formulation the collinear properties of the kernel are taken into account to all orders, and that the ensuing next-to-leading truncation provides a much more stable estimate of hard Pomeron and of resummed anomalous dimensions.

k-Factorization and Impact Factors at Next-to-leading Level

We further analyse,at next-to-leading log(s) level, the form of k-factorization and the definition of impact factors previously proposed by one of us,and we generalize them to the case of hard colourless probes. We then calculate the finite one-loop corrections to quark and gluon impact factors and we find them universal, and given by the same K factor which occurs in the soft timelike splitting functions.

$q\bar q$ interaction in light-cone gauge formulations of Yang-Mills theory in 1+1 dimensions

A rectangular Wilson loop with sides parallel to space and time directions is perturbatively evaluated in two light-cone gauge formulations of Yang-Mills theory in 1+1 dimensions, with ``instantaneous'' and ``causal'' interactions between static quarks. In the instantaneous formulation we get Abelian-like exponentiation of the area in terms of $C_F$. In the ``causal'' formulation the loop depends not only on the area, but also on the dimensionless ratio $β= {L \over T}$, $2L$ and $2T$ being the lengths of the rectangular sides. Besides it also exhibits dependence on $C_A$. In the limit $T \to \infty$ the area law is recovered, but dependence on $C_A$ survives. Consequences of these results are pointed out.
