Weak solution of the merged mathematical equations of the polluted atmosphere

Considered as a geophysical fluid, the polluted atmosphere shares the shallow domain characteristics with other natural large-scale fluids such as seas and oceans. This means that its domain is excessively greater horizontally than in the vertical dimension, leading to the classic hydrostatic approximation of the Navier-Stokes equations. The authors of the \cite{azerad2001mathematical} article have proved a convergence theorem for this model with respect to the ocean, without considering pollution effects. The novelty of this present work is to provide a generalisation of their result translated to the atmosphere, extending the fluid velocity equations with an additional convection-diffusion equation representing pollutants in the atmosphere.

Analysis of Oscillations and Defect Measures for the Quasineutral Limit in Plasma Physics

We perform a rigorous analysis of the quasineutral limit for a hydrodynamical model of a viscous plasma represented by the Navier Stokes Poisson system in $3-D$. We show that as $λ\to 0$ the velocity field $u^λ$ strongly converges towards an incompressible velocity vector field $u$ and the density fluctuation $ρ^λ-1$ weakly converges to zero. In general the limit velocity field cannot be expected to satisfy the incompressible Navier Stokes equation, indeed the presence of high frequency oscillations strongly affects the quadratic nonlinearities and we have to take care of self interacting wave packets. We shall provide a detailed mathematical description of the convergence process by using microlocal defect measures and by developing an explicit correctors analysis. Moreover we will be able to identify an explicit pseudo parabolic pde satisfied by the leading correctors terms. Our results include all the previous results in literature, in particular we show that the formal limit holds rigorously in the case of well prepared data.

Leray weak solutions of the Incompressible Navier Stokes system on exterior domains via the artificial compressibility method

In this paper we study the Leray weak solutions of the incompressible Navier Stokes equation in an exterior domain. We describe, in particular, an hyperbolic version of the so called artificial compressibility method investigated by J.L.Lions and Temam. The convergence of these type of approximation show in general a lack of strong convergence due to the presence of acoustic waves. In this paper we face this difficulty by taking care of the dispersive nature of these waves by means of the Strichartz estimates or waves equations satisfied by the pressure. We actually decompose the pressure in different acoustic components, each one of them satisfies a specific initial boundary value problem. The strong convergence analysis of the velocity field will be achieved by using the associated Leray-Hodge decomposition.

Singular convergence of nonlinear hyperbolic chemotaxis systems to Keller--Segel type models

In this paper we deal with diffusive relaxation limits of nonlinear systems of Euler type modeling chemotactic movement of cells toward Keller--Segel type systems. The approximating systems are either hyperbolic--parabolic or hyperbolic--elliptic. They all feature a nonlinear pressure term arising from a \emph{volume filling effect} which takes into account the fact that cells do not interpenetrate. The main convergence result relies on compensated compactness tools and is obtained for large initial data under suitable assumptions on the approximating solutions. In order to justify such assumptions, we also prove an existence result for initial data which are small perturbation of a constant state. Such result is proven via classical Friedrichs's symmetrization and linearization. In order to simplify the coverage, we restrict to the two--dimensional case with periodical boundary conditions.
