ParFORM: Parallel Version of the Symbolic Manipulation Program FORM

After an introduction to the sequential version of FORM and the mechanisms behind, we report on the status of our project of parallelization. We have now a parallel version of FORM running on Cluster- and SMP-architectures. This version can be used to run arbitrary FORM programs in parallel.

Parallelizing the Symbolic Manipulation Program FORM Part I: Workstation Clusters and Message Passing

The present paper is the first of a series of papers reporting on the parallelization of the symbolic manipulation program FORM on different parallel architectures. Part I deals with workstation clusters using dedicated network hardware and the messages passing libraries (MPI and PVM). After a short introduction to the sequential version of FORM a detailed analysis of the different platforms used is given and the structure of the parallel version of FORM is explained. The forthcoming part II will describe the parallelization of FORM on SMP (symmetrical multi-processing) architectures.

Parallelizing the Symbolic Manipulation Program FORM

After an introduction to the sequential version of FORM and the mechanisms behind it we report on the status of our ongoing project of its parallelization. An analysis of the parallel platforms used is given and the structure of a parallel prototype of FORM is explained.

The Higher Derivative Expansion of the Effective Action by the String Inspired Method. Part II

We apply the string inspired worldline formalism to the calculation of the higher derivative expansion of one-loop effective actions in non-Abelian gauge theory. For this purpose, we have completely computerized the method, using the symbolic manipulation programs FORM, PERL and M. Explicit results are given to sixth order in the inverse mass expansion, reduced to a minimal basis of invariants specifically adapted to the method. Detailed comparisons are made with other gauge-invariant algorithms for calculating the same expansion. This includes an explicit check of all coefficients up to fifth order.

An Improved Heat Kernel Expansion from Worldline Path Integrals

The one--loop effective action for the case of a massive scalar loop in the background of both a scalar potential and an abelian or non--abelian gauge field is written in a one--dimensional path integral representation. From this the inverse mass expansion is obtained by Wick contractions using a suitable Green function, which allows the computation of higher order coefficients. For the scalar case, explicit results are presented up to order O(T**8) in the proper time expansion. The relation to previous work is clarified.

The Higher Derivative Expansion of the Effective Action by the String-Inspired Method, Part I

The higher derivative expansion of the one-loop effective action for an external scalar potential is calculated to order O(T**7), using the string-inspired Bern-Kosower method in the first quantized path integral formulation. Comparisons are made with standard heat kernel calculations and with the corresponding Feynman diagrammatic calculation in order to show the efficiency of the present method.
