Constraints on economical 331 models from mixing of K, Bd and Bs neutral mesons

We analyze the effect of flavor changing neutral currents within 331 models. In particular, we concentrate in the so-called "economical" models, which have a minimal scalar sector. Taking into account the experimental measurements of observables related to neutral K and B meson mixing, we study the resulting bounds for angles and phases in the mixing matrix for the down quark sector, and the mass and mixing parameters related to the new Z' gauge boson.

Equation of state for hybrid compact stars with a nonlocal chiral quark model

We study the thermodynamics of two flavor color superconducting (2SC) quark matter within a nonlocal chiral quark model, using both instantaneous and covariant nonlocal interactions. For applications to compact stars, we impose conditions of electric and color charge neutrality as well as beta equilibrium and construct a phase transition to the hadronic matter phase described within the Dirac-Brueckner-Hartree-Fock (DBHF) approach. We obtain mass-radius relations for hybrid star configurations which fulfill modern observational constraints, including compact star masses above 2 M_sun.

Hybrid stars within a covariant, nonlocal chiral quark model

We present a hybrid equation of state (EoS) for dense matter in which a nuclear matter phase is described within the Dirac-Brueckner-Hartree-Fock (DBHF) approach and a two-flavor quark matter phase is modelled according to a recently developed covariant, nonlocal chiral quark model. We show that modern observational constraints for compact star masses (M ~ 2 M_sun) can be satisfied when a small vector-like four quark interaction is taken into account. The corresponding isospin symmetric EoS is consistent with flow data analyses of heavy ion collisions and points to a deconfinement transition at about 0.55 fm^-3.

On covariant nonlocal chiral quark models with separable interactions

We present a comparative analysis of chiral quark models which include nonlocal covariant four-fermion couplings. We consider two alternative ways of introducing the nonlocality, as well as various shapes for the momentum-dependent form factors governing the effective interactions. In all cases we study the behavior of model parameters and analyze numerical results for constituent quark masses and quark propagator poles. Advantages of these covariant nonlocal schemes over instantaneous nonlocal schemes and the standard NJL model are pointed out.

Phase diagram of neutral quark matter in nonlocal chiral quark models

We consider the phase diagram of two-flavor quark matter under neutron star constraints for two nonlocal, covariant quark models within the mean field approximation. In the first case (Model I) the nonlocality arises from the regularization procedure, motivated by the instanton liquid model, whereas in the second one (Model II) a separable approximation of the one-gluon exchange interaction is applied. We find that Model II predicts a larger quark mass gap and a chiral symmetry breaking (CSB) phase transition line which extends 15-20% further into the phase diagram spanned by temperature (T) and chemical potential (mu). The corresponding critical temperature at mu=0, T_c(0)~140 MeV, is in better accordance to recent lattice QCD results than the prediction of the standard local NJL model, which exceeds 200 MeV. For both Model I and Model II we have considered various coupling strengths in the scalar diquark channel, showing that different low-temperature quark matter phases can occur at intermediate densities: a normal quark matter (NQM) phase, a two-flavor superconducting (2SC) quark matter phase and a mixed 2SC-NQM phase. Although in most cases there is also a gapless 2SC phase, this occurs in general in a small region at nonzero temperatures, thus its effect should be negligible for compact star applications.

Hadronic decays of the tau lepton: tau -> (3 pion) nu_tau within Resonance Chiral Theory

Tau decays into hadrons foresee the study of the hadronization of vector and axial-vector QCD currents, yielding relevant information on the dynamics of the resonances entering into the processes. We analyse tau -> (3 pion) nu_tau decays within the framework of the Resonance Chiral Theory, comparing this theoretical scheme with the experimental data, namely ALEPH spectral function and branching ratio. Hence we get values for the mass and on-shell width of the a_1(1260) resonance, and provide the structure functions that have been measured by OPAL and CLEO-II.

Characteristics of the chiral phase transition in nonlocal quark models

The characteristics of the chiral phase transition are analyzed within the framework of chiral quark models with nonlocal interactions in the mean field approximation. In the chiral limit, we develop a semi-analytic framework which allows us to explicitly determine the phase transition curve, the position of the critical points, some relevant critical exponents, etc. For the case of finite current quark masses, we show the behavior of various thermodynamical and chiral response functions across the phase transition.

Light pseudoscalar mesons in a nonlocal SU(3) chiral quark model

We study the properties of the light pseudoscalar mesons in a three flavor chiral quark model with nonlocal separable interactions. We concentrate on the evaluation of meson masses and decay constants, considering both the cases of Gaussian and Lorentzian nonlocal regulators. The results are found to be in quite good agreement with the empirical values, in particular in the case of the ratio f_K/f_pi and the anomalous decay pi^0 --> gamma gamma. In addition, the model leads to a reasonable description of the observed phenomenology in the eta-eta' sector, even though it implies the existence of two significantly different state mixing angles.

tau -> (3 pions) nu_tau : Theory versus Experiment

We analyse tau -> (3 pions) nu_tau decays within the framework of the resonance chiral theory of QCD. We have worked out the relevant Lagrangian that describes the axial-vector current hadronization contributing to these processes, and the new coupling constants that arise have been constrained by imposing the asymptotic behaviour of the corresponding spectral function within QCD. Hence we compare the theoretical framework with the experimental data, obtaining a good quality fit from the ALEPH spectral function and branching ratio. We also get values for the mass and on-shell width of the a_1(1260) resonance, and provide the tau -> (3 pions) nu_tau structure functions that have been measured by OPAL and CLEO-II finding an excellent agreement.

tau -> (3 pions) nu_tau decays in the Resonance Effective Theory

tau -> (3 pions) nu_tau decays are analysed within the framework of the resonance effective theory of QCD. We work out the relevant Lagrangian that describes the axial-vector current hadronization contributing to these processes, in particular the local a_1(1260)-rho(770)-Goldstone interactions. The new coupling constants are constrained by imposing the asymptotic behaviour of the corresponding spectral function within QCD. Hence we compare the theoretical framework with the experimental data, obtaining a good quality fit from the ALEPH spectral function and branching ratio. We also get values for the mass and on-shell width of the a_1(1260) resonance. In this way we are able to provide the structure functions that have been measured by OPAL and CLEO-II and we find an excellent agreement.

Looking for nonstandard CP violation in B^\pm -> D_s^\pm D^0 pi^0 decays

We study the possibility of measuring nonstandard CP violation effects through Dalitz plot analysis in B^\pm -> D_s^\pm D^0 pi^0 decays. The accuracy in the extraction of CP violating phases is analyzed by performing a Monte Carlo simulation of the decays, and the magnitude of possible new physics effects is discussed. It is found that this represents a hopeful scenario for the search of new physics.

Annihilation amplitudes and factorization in B to phi Kstar

We study the decay $B^\pm\to ϕK^{\ast\pm}$, followed by the decay of the outgoing vector mesons into two pseudoscalars. The analysis of angular distributions of the decay products is shown to provide useful information about the annihilation contributions and possible tests of factorization.

Cuts in the invariant mass of resonances in many body decays of mesons

Resonance-mediated many body decays of heavy mesons are analyzed. We focus on some particular processes, in which the available phase space for the decay of the intermediate resonance is very narrow. It is shown that the mass selection criteria used in several experimental studies of D and B meson decays could lead to a significant underestimation of branching ratios.

Chiral quark models with non-local separable interactions at finite temperature and chemical potential

Chiral quark models with non-local covariant separable interactions at finite temperature and chemical potential are investigated. We develop a formalism in which the different quark properties are evaluated taking into account the analytic structure of the quark propagator. In this framework we study the chiral restoration phase transition for several definite non-local regulators, including that arising within the instanton liquid picture. We find that in all cases the chiral transition is of first order for low values of T, turning into a smooth crossover at a certain "end point". Using model parameters which lead to the physical pion mass and decay constant, we find for the position of this "end point" the values (T_E, mu_E) approx. (60-70, 180-210) MeV. We also discuss the special relevance of the first poles of the quark propagator.

Chiral phase transition in a covariant nonlocal NJL model

The properties of the chiral phase transition at finite temperature and chemical potential are investigated within a nonlocal covariant extension of the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model based on a separable quark-quark interaction. We consider both the situation in which the Minkowski quark propagator has poles at real energies and the case where only complex poles appear. In the literature, the latter has been proposed as a realization of confinement. In both cases, the behaviour of the physical quantities as functions of T and μis found to be quite similar. In particular, for low values of T the chiral transition is always of first order and, for finite quark masses, at certain "end point" the transition turns into a smooth crossover. In the chiral limit, this "end point" becomes a "tricritical" point. Our predictions for the position of these points are similar, although somewhat smaller, than previous estimates. Finally, the relation between the deconfining transition and chiral restoration is also discussed.

Radiative decays of mesons in the NJL model

We revisit the theoretical predictions for anomalous radiative decays of pseudoscalar and vector mesons. Our analysis is performed in the framework of the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model, introducing adequate parameters to account for the breakdown of chiral symmetry. The results are comparable with those obtained in previous approaches.

The hadronic off-shell width of meson resonances

Within the resonance chiral effective theory we study the dressed propagators of the spin-1 fields, as arise from a Dyson-Schwinger resummation perturbatively constructed from loop diagrams with absorptive contributions in the s-channel. We apply the procedure to the vector pion form factor and the elastic pion-pion scattering to obtain the off-shell width of the rho_0 meson. We adopt a definition of the off-shell width of spin-1 meson resonances that satisfies the requirements of analyticity, unitarity, chiral symmetry and asymptotic behaviour ruled by QCD. To fulfil these constraints the resummation procedure cannot consist only of self-energy diagrams. Our width definition is shown to be independent of the formulation used to describe the spin-1 meson resonances.
