Search for $C\!P$ violation using $T$-odd correlations in $D_{(s)}^{+}\to K^{+} K^{-}\pi^{+}\pi^{0}$, $D_{(s)}^{+}\to K^{+} \pi^{-}\pi^{+}\pi^{0}$, and $D^{+}\to K^{-}\pi^{+}\pi^{+}\pi^{0}$ decays

We search for $C\!P$ violation using $T$-odd correlations in five $D_{(s)}^{+}$ and $D_{(s)}^{-}$ four-body decays. Our analysis is based on 980 $\rm fb^{-1}$ of data collected by the Belle detector at the KEKB energy-asymmetric $e^+e^-$ collider. Our results for the $T$-odd $C\!P$-violating parameter $a^{T\text{-odd}}_{C\!P}$ are: $a^{T\text{-odd}}_{C\!P}({D^{+}\to K^{-}K^{+}\pi^{+}\pi^{0}}) = (+2.6\pm 6.6\pm 1.3 )\times10^{-3}$, $a^{T\text{-odd}}_{C\!P}({D^{+}\to K^{+}\pi^{-}\pi^{+}\pi^{0}}) = (-1.3\pm 4.2\pm 0.1 )\times10^{-2}$, $a^{T\text{-odd}}_{C\!P}({D^{+}\to K^{-}\pi^{+}\pi^{+}\pi^{0}}) = (+0.2\pm 1.5\pm 0.8 )\times10^{-3}$, $a^{T\text{-odd}}_{C\!P}({D_s^{+}\to K^{+}\pi^{-}\pi^{+}\pi^{0}}) = (-1.1\pm 2.2\pm 0.1 )\times10^{-2}$, and $a^{T\text{-odd}}_{C\!P}({D_s^{+}\to K^{-}K^{+}\pi^{+}\pi^{0}}) = (+2.2\pm 3.3\pm 4.3 )\times10^{-3}$, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. These results are the first such measurements and are all consistent with zero. They include the first measurement for a $D^+_s$ singly Cabibbo-suppressed decay, and the first measurement for a $D$ meson doubly Cabibbo-suppressed decay. We also measure $a^{T\text{-odd}}_{C\!P}$ in different subregions of phase space, where the decays are dominated by different intermediate resonance states such as $D^+\to\phi\rho^+$, $\bar{K}^{*0}K^{*+}$, and $\bar{K}^{*0}\rho^+$; and $D_s^+\to K^{*+}\rho^{0}$, $K^{*0}\rho^{+}$, $\phi\rho^+$, and $\bar{K}^{*0}K^{*+}$. No evidence for $C\!P$ violation is found.

Study of the muon decay-in-flight in the $\tau^-\to\mu^-\bar{\nu}_\mu\nu_\tau$ decay to measure the Michel parameter $\xi^\prime$

We present the first measurement of the Michel parameter $\xi^\prime$ in the $\tau^-\to\mu^-\bar{\nu}_\mu\nu_\tau$ decay using the full data sample of $988\,\text{fb}^{-1}$ collected by the Belle detector operating at the KEKB asymmetric energy $e^+ e^-$ collider. The method is based on the reconstruction of the $\mu^- \to e^- \bar{\nu}_e\nu_\mu$ decay-in-flight in the Belle central drift chamber and relies on the correlation between muon spin and its daughter electron momentum. We study the main sources of the background that can imitate the signal decay, such as kaon and pion decays-in-flight and charged particle scattering on the detector material. Highly efficient methods of their suppression are developed and applied to select 165 signal-candidate events. We obtain $\xi^\prime=0.22\pm0.94\pm0.42$ where the first uncertainty is statistical, and the second one is systematic. The result is in agreement with the Standard Model prediction of $\xi^\prime=1$.

First measurement of the Michel parameter $\xi^\prime$ in the $\tau^-\to\mu^-\bar{\nu}_\mu\nu_\tau$ decay at Belle

We report the first measurement of the Michel parameter $\xi^\prime$ in the $\tau^-\to\mu^-\bar{\nu}_\mu\nu_\tau$ decay with a new method proposed just recently. The measurement is based on the reconstruction of the $\tau^-\to\mu^-\bar{\nu}_\mu\nu_\tau$ events with subsequent muon decay-in-flight in the Belle central drift chamber. The analyzed data sample of $988\,\text{fb}^{-1}$ collected by the Belle detector corresponds to approximately $912\times10^6$ $\tau^+ \tau^-$ pairs. We measure $\xi^\prime=0.22\pm0.94(\text{stat})\pm0.42(\text{syst})$, which is in agreement with the standard model prediction of $\xi^\prime=1$. Statistical uncertainty dominates in this study, being a limiting factor, while systematic uncertainty is well under control. Our analysis proved the practicability of this promising method and its prospects for further precise measurement in future experiments.

Observation of $\Omega(2012)^- \to \Xi(1530)\bar{K}$ and measurement of the effective couplings of $\Omega(2012)^-$ to $\Xi(1530)\bar{K}$ and $\Xi\bar{K}$

Using $\Upsilon(1S)$, $\Upsilon(2S)$, and $\Upsilon(3S)$ data collected by the Belle detector, we discover a new three-body decay, $\Omega(2012)^-\to\Xi(1530)\bar K\to\Xi\pi\bar K$, with a significance of 5.2~$\sigma$. The mass of the $\Omega(2012)^-$ is $(2012.5\pm0.7\pm0.5)$ MeV and its effective couplings to $\Xi(1530)\bar{K}$ and $\Xi\bar{K}$ are $(39^{+31}_{-39}\pm9)\times10^{-2}$ and $(1.7\pm0.3\pm0.3)\times10^{-2}$, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. The ratio of the branching fraction for the three-body decay to that for the two-body decay to $\Xi\bar{K}$ is $0.99\pm0.26\pm0.06$, assuming isospin symmetry.

Measurement of the branching fractions for Cabibbo-suppressed decays $D^{+}\to K^{+} K^{-}\pi^{+}\pi^{0}$ and $D_{(s)}^{+}\to K^{+}\pi^{-}\pi^{+}\pi^{0}$ at Belle

We present measurements of the branching fractions for the singly Cabibbo-suppressed decays $D^+\to K^{+}K^{-}\pi^{+}\pi^{0}$ and $D_s^{+}\to K^{+}\pi^{-}\pi^{+}\pi^{0}$, and the doubly Cabibbo-suppressed decay $D^{+}\to K^{+}\pi^{-}\pi^{+}\pi^{0}$, based on 980 ${\rm fb}^{-1}$ of data recorded by the Belle experiment at the KEKB $e^{+}e^{-}$ collider. We measure these modes relative to the Cabibbo-favored modes $D^{+}\to K^{-}\pi^{+}\pi^{+}\pi^{0}$ and $D_s^{+}\to K^{+}K^{-}\pi^{+}\pi^{0}$. Our results for the ratios of branching fractions are $B(D^{+}\to K^{+}K^{-}\pi^{+}\pi^{0})/B(D^{+}\to K^{-}\pi^{+}\pi^{+}\pi^{0}) = (11.32 \pm 0.13 \pm 0.26)\%$, $B(D^{+}\to K^{+}\pi^{-}\pi^{+}\pi^{0})/B(D^{+}\to K^{-}\pi^{+}\pi^{+}\pi^{0}) = (1.68 \pm 0.11\pm 0.03)\%$, and $B(D_s^{+}\to K^{+}\pi^{-}\pi^{+}\pi^{0})/B(D_s^{+}\to K^{+}K^{-}\pi^{+}\pi^{0}) = (17.13 \pm 0.62 \pm 0.51)\%$, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. The second value corresponds to $(5.83\pm 0.42)\times\tan^4\theta_C$, where $\theta_C$ is the Cabibbo angle; this value is larger than other measured ratios of branching fractions for a doubly Cabibbo-suppressed charm decay to a Cabibbo-favored decay. Multiplying these results by world average values for $B(D^{+}\to K^{-}\pi^{+}\pi^{+}\pi^{0})$ and $B(D_s^{+}\to K^{+}K^{-}\pi^{+}\pi^{0})$ yields $B(D^{+}\to K^{+}K^{-}\pi^{+}\pi^{0})= (7.08\pm 0.08\pm 0.16\pm 0.20)\times10^{-3}$, $B(D^{+}\to K^{+}\pi^{-}\pi^{+}\pi^{0})= (1.05\pm 0.07\pm 0.02\pm 0.03)\times10^{-3}$, and $B(D_s^{+}\to K^{+}\pi^{-}\pi^{+}\pi^{0}) = (9.44\pm 0.34\pm 0.28\pm 0.32)\times10^{-3}$, where the third uncertainty is due to the branching fraction of the normalization mode. The first two results are consistent with, but more precise than, the current world averages. The last result is the first measurement of this branching fraction.

Search for $B^{0} \to τ^\pm \ell^\mp$ ($\ell=e,μ$) with a hadronic tagging method at Belle

We present a search for the lepton-flavor-violating decays $B^{0} \to τ^\pm \ell^\mp$, where $\ell=(e,\,μ)$, using the full data sample of $772 \times 10^6$ $B \overline{B}$ pairs recorded by the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+e^-$ collider. We use events in which one $B$ meson is fully reconstructed in a hadronic decay mode. The $τ^\pm$ lepton is reconstructed indirectly using the momentum of the reconstructed $B$ and that of the $\ell^\mp$ from the signal decay. We find no evidence for $B^{0} \to τ^\pm \ell^\mp$ decays and set upper limits on their branching fractions at 90% confidence level of $\cal B$($B^{0} \to τ^\pm μ^{\mp}$)$ < 1.5 \times 10^{-5}$ and $\cal B$($B^{0} \to τ^\pm e^{\mp}$)$ < 1.6 \times 10^{-5}$.

An improved search for the electric dipole moment of the $\tau$ lepton

We report a measurement of the electric dipole moment of the $\tau$ lepton ($d_\tau$) using an 833~fb$^{-1}$ data sample collected near the $\Upsilon(4S)$ resonance, with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+ e^-$ collider. Using an optimal observable method, we obtain the real and imaginary parts of $d_\tau$ as ${\rm Re}(d_\tau) = ( -0.62 \pm 0.63 ) \times 10^{-17} ~e{\rm cm}$ and ${\rm Im}(d_\tau) = ( -0.40 \pm 0.32 ) \times 10^{-17} ~e{\rm cm}$, respectively. These results are consistent with null electric dipole moment at the present level of experimental sensitivity and improve the sensitivity by about a factor of three.

Search for $B_{s}^{0} \rightarrow η^{\prime} X_{s\bar{s}}$ at Belle using a semi-inclusive method

We report the first search for the penguin-dominated process $B_{s}^{0} \rightarrow η^{\prime} X_{s\bar{s}}$ using a semi-inclusive method. A 121.4 $\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ integrated luminosity $Υ(5S)$ data set collected by the Belle experiment, at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+e^-$ collider, is used. We observe no statistically significant signal and including all uncertainties, we set a 90\% confidence level upper limit on the partial branching fraction at 1.4 $\times$ 10$^{-3}$ for $M(X_{s\bar{s}})$ $\leq$ 2.4 GeV/$c^{2}$.

Test of lepton flavor universality and search for lepton flavor violation in $B \to K \ell\ell$ decays

We present measurements of the branching fractions for the decays $B\to K μ^{+}μ^{-}$ and $B\to K e^{+}e^{-}$, and their ratio ($R_{K}$), using a data sample of 711 $fb^{-1}$ that contains $772 \times 10^{6}$ $B\bar{B}$ events. The data were collected at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^{+}e^{-}$ collider. The ratio $R_{K}$ is measured in five bins of dilepton invariant-mass-squared ($q^{2}$): $q^{2} \in (0.1, 4.0), (4.0, 8.12), (1.0, 6.0)$, $(10.2, 12.8)$ and ($>14.18) GeV^{2}/c^{4}$, along with the whole $q^2$ region. The $R_{K}$ value for $q^{2} \in (1.0, 6.0) GeV^{2}/c^{4}$ is $1.03^{+0.28}_{-0.24} \pm 0.01$. The first and second uncertainties listed are statistical and systematic, respectively. All results for $R_{K}$ are consistent with Standard Model predictions. We also measure $C\!P$-averaged isospin asymmetries in the same $q^{2}$ bins. The results are consistent with a null asymmetry, with the largest difference of 2.6 standard deviations occurring for the $q^{2}\in(1.0,6.0) GeV^{2}/c^{4}$ bin in the mode with muon final states. The measured differential branching fractions, ${d\cal B}/{dq^{2}}$, are consistent with theoretical predictions for charged $B$ decays, while the corresponding values are below the expectations for neutral $B$ decays. We have also searched for lepton-flavor-violating $B \rightarrow Kμ^{\pm}e^{\mp}$ decays and set $90\%$ confidence-level upper limits on the branching fraction in the range of $10^{-8}$ for $B^{+} \rightarrow K^{+}μ^{\pm}e^{\mp}$, and $B^{0} \rightarrow K^{0}μ^{\pm}e^{\mp}$ modes.

Evidence for $X(3872)\rightarrow J/ψπ^+π^-$ produced in single-tag two-photon interactions

We report the first evidence for $X(3872)$ production in two-photon interactions by tagging either the electron or the position in the final state, exploring the highly virtual photon region. The search is performed in $e^+e^- \rightarrow e^+e^-J/ψπ^+π^-$, using 825 fb$^{-1}$ of data collected by the Belle detector operated at the KEKB $e^+e^-$ collider. We observe three $X(3872)$ candidates with an expected background of $0.11\pm 0.10$ events, with a significance of 3.2$σ$. We obtain an estimated value for $\tildeΓ_{γγ}{\cal B}(X(3872)\rightarrow J/ψπ^+π^-$) assuming the $Q^2$ dependence predicted by a $c\bar{c}$ meson model, where $-Q^2$ is the invariant mass-squared of the virtual photon. No $X(3915)\rightarrow J/ψπ^+π^-$ candidates are found.

Measurement of time-dependent CP violation parameters in $B^0 \to K_0^SK_0^SK_0^S$ decays at Belle

We measure the time-dependent $C\!P$ violation parameters in $B^{0} \to K^{0}_{S}K^{0}_{S}K^{0}_{S}$ decays using $772 \times 10^6$ $B {\mkern 1.5mu\overline{\mkern-1.5mu B \mkern-0.1mu}\mkern 0.1mu}$ pairs collected at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+ e^-$ collider. The obtained mixing-induced and direct $C\!P$ asymmetries are $-0.71 \pm 0.23~{\rm(stat)} \pm 0.05~{\rm(syst)}$ and $0.12 \pm 0.16~{\rm(stat)} \pm 0.05~{\rm(syst)}$, respectively. These values are consistent with the Standard Model predictions. The significance of $C\!P$ violation differs from zero by 2.5 standard deviations.

Search for Axion-Like Particles produced in $e^+e^-$ collisions at Belle II

We present a search for the direct production of a light pseudoscalar $a$ decaying into two photons with the Belle II detector at the SuperKEKB collider. We search for the process ${e^+e^-\toγa, a \toγγ}$ in the mass range ${0.2} \,< m_a < {9.7}\,{\text{GeV/$c$}^2}$ using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $(445\pm 3)\,\text{pb}^{-1}$. Light pseudoscalars interacting predominantly with standard model gauge bosons (so-called axion-like particles or ALPs) are frequently postulated in extensions of the standard model. We find no evidence for ALPs and set 95% confidence level upper limits on the coupling strength $g_{aγγ}$ of ALPs to photons at the level of $10^{-3}\,{\text{GeV}^{-1}}$. The limits are the most restrictive to date for $0.2\,<\,m_a\,<\,1\,{\text{GeV/$c$}^2}$.

Test of lepton-flavor universality in ${B\to K^\ast\ell^+\ell^-}$ decays at Belle

We present a measurement of $R_{K^{\ast}}$, the branching fraction ratio ${{\cal B}(B\to K^\ast μ^+ μ^-)}$/ ${{\cal B}(B\to K^\ast e^+ e^-)}$, for both charged and neutral $B$ mesons. The ratio for the charged case, $R_{K{^{\ast +}}}$, is the first measurement ever performed. In addition, we report absolute branching fractions for the individual modes in bins of the squared dilepton invariant mass, $q^2$. The analysis is based on a data sample of $711~\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$, containing $772\times 10^{6}$ $B\bar B$ events, recorded at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+e^-$ collider. The obtained results are consistent with Standard Model expectations.

Search for the Decay $B_s^0 \rightarrow η^\prime η$

In the Standard Model (SM) charmless hadronic decays $B_s^0 \rightarrow η^\prime η$ proceed via tree-level $b\to u$ and penguin $b\to s$ transitions. Penguin transitions are sensitive to Beyond-the-Standard-Model (BSM) physics scenarios and could affect the branching fractions and {\it CP} asymmetries in such decays. Once branching fractions for two-body decays $B_s \to ηη, ηη^{\prime}, η^{\prime}η^{\prime} $ are measured, and the theoretical uncertainties are reduced, it would be possible to extract {\it CP} violating parameters from the data using the formalism based on SU(3)/U(3) symmetry. To achieve this goal, at least four of these six branching fractions need to be measured. Only the branching fraction for $B_s^0 \to η^{\prime}η^{\prime}$ has been measured so far.

Measurement of two-particle correlations in hadronic $e^{+}e^{-}$ collisions at Belle

The enhancement of charged-particle pairs with large pseudorapidity difference and small azimuthal angle difference, often referred to as the ``ridge signal'', is a phenomenon widely observed in high multiplicity proton-proton, proton-ion and deutron-ion collisions, which is not yet fully understood. In heavy-ion collisions, the hydrodynamic expansion of the Quark-Gluon Plasma is one of the possible explanations of the origin of the ridge signal. Measurements in the $e^+e^-$ collision system, without the complexities introduced by hadron structure in the initial state, can serve as a complementary probe to examine the formation of a ridge signal. The first measurement of two-particle angular correlation functions in high multiplicity $e^+e^-$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=10.52$ GeV is reported. The hadronic $e^+e^-$ annihilation data collected by the Belle detector at KEKB are used in this study. Two-particle angular correlation functions are measured over the full azimuth and large pseudorapidity intervals which are defined by either the electron beam axis or the event thrust as a function of charged particle multiplicity. The measurement in the event thrust analysis, with mostly outgoing quark pairs determining the reference axis, is sensitive to the region of additional soft gluon emissions. No significant ridge signal is observed with either coordinates analyses. Near side jet correlations appear to be absent in the thrust axis analysis. The measurements are compared to predictions from various event generators and expected to provide new constraints to the phenomenological models in the low energy regime.

Measurement of $\mathcal{R}(D)$ and $\mathcal{R}(D^*)$ with a semileptonic tagging method

The experimental results on the ratios of branching fractions $\mathcal{R}(D) = {\cal B}(\bar{B} \to D τ^- \barν_τ)/{\cal B}(\bar{B} \to D \ell^- \barν_{\ell})$ and $\mathcal{R}(D^*) = {\cal B}(\bar{B} \to D^* τ^- \barν_τ)/{\cal B}(\bar{B} \to D^* \ell^- \barν_{\ell})$, where $\ell$ denotes an electron or a muon, show a long-standing discrepancy with the Standard Model predictions, and might hint to a violation of lepton flavor universality. We report a new simultaneous measurement of $\mathcal{R}(D)$ and $\mathcal{R}(D^*)$, based on a data sample containing $772 \times 10^6$ $B\bar{B}$ events recorded at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB $e^+ e^-$ collider. In this analysis the tag-side $B$ meson is reconstructed in a semileptonic decay mode and the signal-side $τ$ is reconstructed in a purely leptonic decay. The measured values are $\mathcal{R}(D)= 0.307 \pm 0.037 \pm 0.016$ and $\mathcal{R}(D^*) = 0.283 \pm 0.018 \pm 0.014$, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. These results are in agreement with the Standard Model predictions within $0.2$, $1.1$ and $0.8$ standard deviations for $\mathcal{R}(D)$, $\mathcal{R}(D^*)$ and their combination, respectively. This work constitutes the most precise measurements of $\mathcal{R}(D)$ and $\mathcal{R}(D^*)$ performed to date as well as the first result for $\mathcal{R}(D)$ based on a semileptonic tagging method.

Observation of $ τ^- \rightarrow π^- ν_τ e^+ e^-$ and search for $τ^- \rightarrow π^- ν_τ μ^+ μ^-$

We present the first measurements of branching fractions of rare tau-lepton decays, $τ^- \rightarrow π^- ν_τ \ell^+ \ell^-$ ($\ell = e$ or $μ$), using a data sample corresponding to 562 fb$^{-1}$ collected at a center-of-mass energy of 10.58 GeV with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+ e^-$ collider. The $τ^- \rightarrow π^- ν_τe^+ e^-$ decay is observed for the first time with 7.0$σ$ significance. The partial branching fraction determined by the structure-dependent mechanisms mediated by either a vector or an axial-vector current for the mass region $M_{πe e}>1.05$ GeV/$c^2$ is measured to be $\mathcal{B}(τ^-\rightarrow π^- ν_τe^+ e^-)[M_{π^- e^+ e^-}>1.05~{\rm GeV}/c^2] = (5.90 \pm 0.53 \pm 0.85 \pm 0.11) \times 10^{-6}$, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is systematic, and the third is due to the model dependence. In the full phase space, due to the different detection efficiencies for the structure-dependent mechanisms mediated by axial-vector and vector currents, the branching fraction varies from $\mathcal{B}_{A}(τ^-\rightarrow π^- ν_τe^+ e^-) = (1.46 \pm 0.13 \pm 0.21) \times 10^{-5}$ to $\mathcal{B}_{V}(τ^-\rightarrow π^- ν_τe^+ e^-) = (3.01 \pm 0.27 \pm 0.43) \times 10^{-5}$, respectively. An upper limit is set on the branching fraction of the $τ^- \rightarrow π^- ν_τμ^+ μ^-$ decay, $\mathcal{B}(τ^-\rightarrow π^- ν_τμ^+ μ^-) < 1.14 \times 10^{-5}$, at the 90% confidence level.

Search for $X(3872)$ and $X(3915)$ decay into $χ_{c1} π^0$ in $B$ decays at Belle

We report a search for $X(3872)$ and $X(3915)$ in $B^+ \to χ_{c1} π^0 K^+$ decays. We set an upper limit of $\mathcal{B}(B^+ \to X(3872) K^+) \times \mathcal{B}(X(3872) \to χ_{c1} π^0)$ $ < 8.1 \times 10^{-6}$ and $\mathcal{B}(B^+ \to X(3915) K^+) \times \mathcal{B}(X(3915) \to χ_{c1} π^0)$ $ < 3.8 \times 10^{-5}$ at 90\% confidence level. We also measure $\mathcal{B}(X(3872) \to χ_{c1} π^0)/\mathcal{B}(X(3872) \to J/ψπ^+ π^-) < 0.97$ at 90\% confidence level. The results reported here are obtained from $772 \times 10^{6}$ $B\overline{B}$ events collected at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+e^-$ collider.
