Basic geometric and kinematic features of the Standard Cosmological Model

We present a brief history of the construction of models of the universe, followed by calculations of quantitative characteristics of basic geometric and kinematic properties of the Standard Cosmological Model ($Λ$CDM). Using the Friedmann equations of uniform space, we derive equations characterizing a $Λ$CDM model that describes a universe corresponding to current observational data. The equations take into account the effects of radiation and ultra-relativistic neutrinos. It is shown that the universe at very early and late stages can be described to sufficient accuracy by simple formulas. Certain important moments of cosmic evolution are determined: the times when densities of the gravitational components of the universe become equal, when they contribute equally to the gravitational force, when the accelerating expansion of space begins, and several others. The dependences of different distances on redshift and the scale factor of space are derived. The distance to the sphere that expands with the speed of light (the Hubble distance), and its current and future acceleration, are found. Concepts of a horizon, second inflation, and second horizon are discussed. We consider the remote future of the universe and the opportunity, in principle, of connection with extraterrestrial civilizations.

Transient X-ray pulsar V0332+53: pulse phase-resolved spectroscopy and the reflection model

We present the results of the pulse phase- and luminosity-resolved spectroscopy of the transient X-ray pulsar V0332+53, performed for the first time in a wide luminosity range (1-40)x10^{37} erg/s during a giant outburst observed by the RXTE observatory in Dec 2004 - Feb 2005. We characterize the spectra quantitatively and built the detailed "three-dimensional" picture of spectral variations with pulse phase and throughout the outburst. We show that all spectral parameters are strongly variable with the pulse phase, and the pattern of this variability significantly changes with luminosity directly reflecting the associated changes in the structure of emission regions and their beam patterns. Obtained results are qualitatively discussed in terms of the recently developed reflection model for the formation of cyclotron lines in the spectra of X-ray pulsars.

Time Dependent Monochromatic Scattering of Radiation in One Dimensional Media: Analytical and Numerical Solutions

In order to choose a numerical method for solving the time dependent equations of radiative transport, we obtain an exact solution for the time dependent radiation field in a one dimensional infinite medium with monochromatic, isotropic scattering for sources with an arbitrary spatial distribution and an arbitrary time variation of their power. The Lax-Wendroff method seems to be the most suitable. Because it is assumed that radiation delay is caused by the finite speed of light, the following difficulty arises when the numerical method is used: the region of variation of the variables (dimensionless coordinate τand time t) is triangular (the inequality τ< t). This difficulty is overcome by expanding the unknown functions in series in terms of small values of the time and coordinate. By comparing the numerical and exact solutions for a point source with a given time dependence for its power and with pure scattering, the steps in the variables required to obtain a desired accuracy are estimated. This numerical method can be used to calculate the intensity and polarization of the radiation from sources in the early universe during epochs close to the recombination epoch.

The Sunyaev-Zel'dovich Effect On Elliptical Galaxies

The history of discovering of hot gas in galaxies is traced briefly, its main properties are described and the desirability to make them more precise, in particular to obtain additional data on the mass of such gas is pointed out. For this purpose observations of the Sunyaev-Zel'dovich effect on hot gas of coronas of elliptic galaxies are proposed. The absolute and relative disturbances of the cosmic microwave radiation spectrum due to scattering of relic photons by Maxwellian electrons are calculated according the formula of the article. With the example of three elliptic galaxies it is shown that observation of the SZ effect on such galaxies is quite possible. Kinematic SZ effect arising due to peculiar movement and rotation of galaxies is available for observation as well. Such observations combined with X-ray data would make it possible to get more about properties of galactic gas, to obtain additional information on rotation of galaxies, on possible accreting gas flows and on hot galactic wind.
