Small-world structure of quantum computer hardware

We show that the network of quantum register states of a quantum computer (QC), coupled through residual two-body interactions between qubits, exhibits small-world properties analogous to those of complex networks found in human society. The most probable Erd\H{o}s number between any two states is about 9, comparable to the six degrees of separation reported by Milgram for social networks. Using the $\mathring{A}$berg criterion, which retains only interactions exceeding the local energy spacing, we construct an effective ($\mathring{A}$berg) network and show that, above a critical coupling strength, this network percolates into a giant component spanning nearly the whole quantum register space. This percolation transition closely matches the onset of quantum chaos and dynamical thermalization established previously via costly exact diagonalization, while our approach extends the accessible system size up to $n_q=30$ qubits.

Quantum synchronization and entanglement of dissipative qubits coupled to a resonator

We study the properties of a driven cavity coupled to several qubits in the framework of a dissipative Jaynes-Cummings model. We show that the rotating wave approximation (RWA) allows to reduce the description of original driven model to an effective Jaynes-Cummings model with strong coupling between photons and qubits. Two semi-analytical approaches are developed to describe the steady state of this system. We first treat the weak dissipation limit where we derive perturbative series of rate equations that converge to the exact RWA steady-state except near the cavity resonance. This approach exactly describes the multi-photon resonances in the system. Then in the strong dissipation limit we introduce a semiclassical approximation which allows to reproduce the mean spin-projections and cavity state. This approach reproduces the RWA exactly in the strong dissipation limit but provides good qualitative trends even in more quantum regimes. We then focus on quantum synchronization of qubits through their coupling to the cavity. We demonstrate the entangled steady state of a pair of qubits synchronized through their interaction with a driven cavity in presence of dissipation and decoherence. Finally we discuss synchronization of a larger number of qubits.

Coulomb electron pairing in a tight-binding model of La-based cuprate superconductors

We study the properties of two electrons with Coulomb interactions in a tight-binding model of La-based cuprate superconductors. This tight-binding model is characterized by long-range hopping obtained previously by advanced quantum chemistry computations. We show analytically and numerically that the Coulomb repulsion leads to a formation of compact pairs propagating through the whole system. The mechanism of pair formation is related to the emergence of an effective narrow energy band for Coulomb electron pairs with conserved total pair energy and momentum. The dependence of the pair formation probability on an effective filling factor is obtained with a maximum around a filling factor of 20 (or 80) percent. The comparison with the case of the nearest neighbor tight-binding model shows that the long-range hopping provides an increase of the phase space volume with high pair formation probability. We conjecture that the Coulomb electron pairs discussed here may play a role in high temperature superconductivity.

Quantum computer with cold ions in the Aubry pinned phase

It is proposed to modify the Cirac-Zoller proposal of quantum computer with cold ions in a global oscillator trap potential by adding a periodic potential with an incommensurate average ratio of number of ions to number of periods being order of unity. With the increase of the periodic potential amplitude the system enters in the Aubry pinned phase characterized by quasi-frozen positions of ions and a gap of their first phonon excitations becomes independent of number of ions. This gives hopes that this quantum computer will be really scalable. It is argued that the usual single- and two-qubit gates can be realized between the nearby ions in the Aubry phase. The possibilities of experimental realizations of a periodic potential with microtrap arrays or optical lattices are discussed. It is pointed that the disorder of distances between microtraps with one ion per trap can lead to the Anderson localization of phonon modes with interesting possibilities for ion quantum computing.

Influence of petroleum and gas trade on EU economies from the reduced Google matrix analysis of UN COMTRADE data

Using the United Nations COMTRADE database we apply the reduced Google matrix (REGOMAX) algorithm to analyze the multiproduct world trade in years 2004-2016. Our approach allows to determine the trade balance sensitivity of a group of countries to a specific product price increase from a specific exporting country taking into account all direct and indirect trade pathways via all world countries exchanging 61 UN COMTRADE identified trade products. On the basis of this approach we present the influence of trade in petroleum and gas products from Russia, USA, Saudi Arabia and Norway determining the sensitivity of each EU country. We show that the REGOMAX approach provides a new and more detailed analysis of trade influence propagation comparing to the usual approach based on export and import flows.

Quantum chaos of dark matter in the Solar System

We perform time-dependent analysis of quantum dynamics of dark matter particles in the Solar System. It is shown that this problem has similarities with a microwave ionization of Rydberg atoms studied previously experimentally and analytically. On this basis it is shown that the quantum effects for chaotic dark matter dynamics become significant for dark matter mass ratio to electron mass being smaller than $2 \times 10^{-15}$. Below this border multiphoton diffusion over Rydberg states of dark matter atom becomes exponentially localized in analogy with the Anderson localization in disordered solids. The life time of dark matter in the Solar System is determined in dependence on mass ratio in the localized phase and a few photon ionization regime. The quantum effects for dark matter captured by other binary systems are also discussed.

Kapitza stabilization of a repulsive Bose-Einstein condensate in an oscillating optical lattice

We show that the Kapitza stabilization can occur in the context of nonlinear quantum fields. Through this phenomenon, an amplitude-modulated lattice can stabilize a Bose-Einstein condensate with repulsive interactions and prevent the spreading for long times. We present a classical and quantum analysis in the framework of Gross-Pitaevskii equation, specifying the parameter region where stabilization occurs. Effects of nonlinearity lead to a significant increase of the stability domain compared with the classical case. Our proposal can be experimentally implemented with current cold atom settings.

Floquet theory of microwave absorption by an impurity in two dimensional electron gas

We investigate the dynamics of a two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG) under circular polarized microwave radiation in presence of dilute localized impurities. Inspired by recent developments on Floquet topological insulators we obtain the Floquet wavefunctions of this system which allow us to predict the microwave absorption and charge density responses of the electron gas, we demonstrate how these properties can be understood from the underlying semiclassical dynamics even for impurities with a size of around a magnetic length. The charge density response takes the form of a rotating charge density vortex around the impurity that can lead to a significant renormalization of the external microwave field which becomes strongly inhomogeneous on the scale of a cyclotron radius around the impurity. We show that this in-homogeneity can suppress the circular polarization dependence which is theoretically expected for MIRO but which was not observed in MIRO experiments on semiconducting 2DEGs. Our explanation, for this so far unexplained polarization independence, has close similarities with the Azbel'-Kaner effect in metals where the interaction length between the microwave field and conduction electrons is much smaller than the cyclotron radius due to skin effect generating harmonics of the cyclotron resonance.

Chaotic delocalization of two interacting particles in the classical Harper model

We study the problem of two interacting particles in the classical Harper model in the regime when one-particle motion is absolutely bounded inside one cell of periodic potential. The interaction between particles breaks integrability of classical motion leading to emergence of Hamiltonian dynamical chaos. At moderate interactions and certain energies above the mobility edge this chaos leads to a chaotic propulsion of two particles with their diffusive spreading over the whole space both in one and two dimensions. At the same time the distance between particles remains bounded by one or two periodic cells demonstrating appearance of new composite quasi-particles called chaons. The effect of chaotic delocalization of chaons is shown to be rather general being present for Coulomb and short range interactions. It is argued that such delocalized chaons can be observed in experiments with cold atoms and ions in optical lattices.

Fractal structures for the Jacobi Hamiltonian of restricted three-body problem

We study the dynamical chaos and integrable motion in the planar circular restricted three-body problem and determine the fractal dimension of the spiral strange repeller set of non-escaping orbits at different values of mass ratio of binary bodies and of Jacobi integral of motion. We find that the spiral fractal structure of the Poincaré section leads to a spiral density distribution of particles remaining in the system. We also show that the initial exponential drop of survival probability with time is followed by the algebraic decay related to the universal algebraic statistics of Poincaré recurrences in generic symplectic maps.

Reduced Google matrix

Using parallels with the quantum scattering theory, developed for processes in nuclear and mesoscopic physics and quantum chaos, we construct a reduced Google matrix $G_R$ which describes the properties and interactions of a certain subset of selected nodes belonging to a much larger directed network. The matrix $G_R$ takes into account effective interactions between subset nodes by all their indirect links via the whole network. We argue that this approach gives new possibilities to analyze effective interactions in a group of nodes embedded in a large directed networks. Possible efficient numerical methods for the practical computation of $G_R$ are also described.

Delocalization of two interacting particles in the two-dimensional Harper model

We study the problem of two interacting particles in a two-dimensional quasiperiodic potential of the Harper model. We consider an amplitude of the quasiperiodic potential such that in absence of interactions all eigenstates are exponentially localized while the two interacting particles are delocalized showing anomalous subdiffusive spreading over the lattice with the spreading exponent $b \approx 0.5$ instead of a usual diffusion with $b=1$. This spreading is stronger than in the case of a correlated disorder potential with a one particle localization length as for the quasiperiodic potential. At the same time we do not find signatures of ballistic FIKS pairs existing for two interacting particles in the one-dimensional Harper model.

Algebraic statistics of Poincaré recurrences in DNA molecule

Statistics of Poincaré recurrences is studied for the base-pair breathing dynamics of an all-atom DNA molecule in realistic aqueous environment with thousands of degrees of freedom. It is found that at least over five decades in time the decay of recurrences is described by an algebraic law with the Poincaré exponent close to $β=1.2$. This value is directly related to the correlation decay exponent $ν= β-1$, which is close to $ν\approx 0.15$ observed in the time resolved Stokes shift experiments. By applying the virial theorem we analyse the chaotic dynamics in polynomial potentials and demonstrate analytically that exponent $β=1.2$ is obtained assuming the dominance of dipole-dipole interactions in the relevant DNA dynamics. Molecular dynamics simulations also reveal the presence of strong low frequency noise with the exponent $η=1.6$. We trace parallels with the chaotic dynamics of symplectic maps with a few degrees of freedom characterized by the Poincaré exponent $β\sim 1.5$.

Contagion effects in the world network of economic activities

Using the new data from the OECD-WTO world network of economic activities we construct the Google matrix $G$ of this directed network and perform its detailed analysis. The network contains 58 countries and 37 activity sectors for years 1995, 2000, 2005, 2008, 2009. The construction of $G$, based on Markov chain transitions, treats all countries on equal democratic grounds while the contribution of activity sectors is proportional to their exchange monetary volume. The Google matrix analysis allows to obtain reliable ranking of countries and activity sectors and to determine the sensitivity of CheiRank-PageRank commercial balance of countries in respect to price variations and labor cost in various countries. We demonstrate that the developed approach takes into account multiplicity of network links with economy interactions between countries and activity sectors thus being more efficient compared to the usual export-import analysis. Our results highlight the striking increase of the influence of German economic activity on other countries during the period 1995 to 2009 while the influence of Eurozone decreases during the same period. We compare our results with the similar analysis of the world trade network from the UN COMTRADE database. We argue that the knowledge of network structure allows to analyze the effects of economic influence and contagion propagation over the world economy.

Chaotic enhancement of dark matter density in binary systems

We study the capture of galactic dark matter particles (DMP) in two-body and few-body systems with a symplectic map description. This approach allows modeling the scattering of $10^{16}$ DMPs after following the time evolution of the captured particle on about $10^9$ orbital periods of the binary system. We obtain the DMP density distribution inside such systems and determine the enhancement factor of their density in a center vicinity compared to its galactic value as a function of the mass ratio of the bodies and the ratio of the body velocity to the velocity of the galactic DMP wind. We find that the enhancement factor can be on the order of tens of thousands.

Anderson transition for Google matrix eigenstates

We introduce a number of random matrix models describing the Google matrix G of directed networks. The properties of their spectra and eigenstates are analyzed by numerical matrix diagonalization. We show that for certain models it is possible to have an algebraic decay of PageRank vector with the exponent similar to real directed networks. At the same time the spectrum has no spectral gap and a broad distribution of eigenvalues in the complex plain. The eigenstates of G are characterized by the Anderson transition from localized to delocalized states and a mobility edge curve in the complex plane of eigenvalues.

Poisson statistics of PageRank probabilities of Twitter and Wikipedia networks

We use the methods of quantum chaos and Random Matrix Theory for analysis of statistical fluctuations of PageRank probabilities in directed networks. In this approach the effective energy levels are given by a logarithm of PageRank probability at a given node. After the standard energy level unfolding procedure we establish that the nearest spacing distribution of PageRank probabilities is described by the Poisson law typical for integrable quantum systems. Our studies are done for the Twitter network and three networks of Wikipedia editions in English, French and German. We argue that due to absence of level repulsion the PageRank order of nearby nodes can be easily interchanged. The obtained Poisson law implies that the nearby PageRank probabilities fluctuate as random independent variables.
