Determinant representations for Garvan formulas

In this note, we demonstrate how determinant representations for correlation functions in conformal field theory can be used to derive explicit determinant formulas for powers of the classical $\eta$-function, expressed via deformed elliptic functions with parameters. In particular, we obtain counterparts of Garvan's formulas for the modular discriminant corresponding to the genus two Riemann surface case.

A High-Precision, Fast, Robust, and Cost-Effective Muon Detector Concept for the FCC-ee

We propose a high-precision, fast, robust and cost-effective muon detector concept for an FCC-ee experiment. This design combines precision drift tubes with fast plastic scintillator strips to enable both spatial and timing measurements. The drift tubes deliver two-dimensional position measurements perpendicular to the tubes with a resolution around 100~$\mu$m. Meanwhile, the scintillator strips, read out with the wavelength-shifting fibers and silicon photomultipliers, provide fast timing information with a precision of 200~ps or better and measure the third coordinate along the tubes with a resolution of about 1~mm.

Dual-readout calorimetry with homogeneous crystals

High resolution calorimetry with state-of-the-art energy resolution performance for both electromagnetic (EM) and hadronic signals can be achieved using the dual-readout (DR) technique, both in a homogeneous scintillating-crystal calorimeter and in a traditional fiber and absorber-based DR hadronic section. We present results from the CalVision consortium studying the collection of Cerenkov and scintillation signals in PbWO$_4$ and BGO crystal samples exposed to 120\,GeV proton beams at the Fermilab Test Beam Facility, including proof-of-principle measurements aimed at demonstrating the identification of a sufficiently large Cerenkov signal in homogeneous scintillating crystals to support dual-readout capability.

Invariant classes for families of complexes

We consider families of chain-cochain infinite complexes $\mathcal C$ of spaces with elements depending on a number of parameters, and endowed with a converging associative multiple product. The existence of left/right local/non-local square-vanishing ideals is assumed for subspaces of $\mathcal C$-spaces. We show that a set of differential and orthogonality relations together with coherence conditions on indices of a chain-cochain complex $\mathcal C$ elements generates families of graded differential algebras. With the appropriate orthogonality conditions on completions of $\mathcal C$ elements in the multiple product, we define the equivalence classes of cohomology invariants.

Planning the Future of U.S. Particle Physics (Snowmass 2013): Chapter 8: Instrumentation Frontier

These reports present the results of the 2013 Community Summer Study of the APS Division of Particles and Fields ("Snowmass 2013") on the future program of particle physics in the U.S. Chapter 8, on the Instrumentation Frontier, discusses the instrumentation needs of future experiments in the Energy, Intensity, and Cosmic Frontiers, promising new technologies for particle physics research, and issues of gathering resources for long-term research in this area.

Regularity of generalized Daubechies wavelets reproducing exponential polynomials

We investigate non-stationary orthogonal wavelets based on a non-stationary interpolatory subdivision scheme reproducing a given set of exponentials. The construction is analogous to the construction of Daubechies wavelets using the subdivision scheme of Deslauriers-Dubuc. The main result is the smoothness of these Daubechies type wavelets.

Studies on fast triggering and high precision tracking with Resistive Plate Chambers

We report on studies of fast triggering and high-precision tracking using Resistive Plate Chambers (RPCs). Two beam tests were carried out with the 180 GeV muon beam at CERN using RPCs with gas gaps of 1.00 or 1.15 mm and equipped with readout strips with 1.27 mm pitch. This is the first beam test of RPCs with fine-pitch readout strips that explores simultaneously precision tracking and triggering capabilities. RPC signals were acquired with precision timing and charge integrating readout electronics at both ends of the strips. The time resolution was measured to be better than 600 ps and the average spatial resolution was found to be 220 um using charge information and 287 um using timing information. The dual-ended readout allows the determination of the average and the difference of the signal arrival times. The average time was found to be independent of the incident particle position along the strip and is useful for triggering purposes. The time difference yielded a determination of the hit position with a precision of 7.5 mm along the strip. These results demonstrate the feasibility using RPCs for fast and high-resolution triggering and tracking.
