One Interesting New Sum Rule Extending Bjorken's to order {1/m_Q}

We explicitly check quark-hadron duality to order $(m_b-m_c)Λ/m_b^2$ for $b \to c lν$ decays in the limit $m_b-m_c \ll m_b$ including ground state and orbitally excited hadrons. Duality occurs thanks to a new sum rule which expresses the subleading HQET form factor $ξ_3$ or, in other notations, $a_+^{(1)}$ in terms of the infinite mass limit form factors and some level splittings. We also demonstrate the sum rule, which is not restricted to the condition $m_b-m_c \ll m_b$, applying OPE to the longitudinal axial component of the hadronic tensor without neglecting the $1/m_b$ subleading contributions to the form factors. We argue that this method should produce a new class of sum rules, depending on the current, beyond Bjorken, Voloshin and the known tower of higher moments. Applying OPE to the vector currents we find another derivation of the Voloshin sum rule. From independent results on $ξ_3$ we derive a sum rule which involves only the $τ_{1/2}^{(n)}$ and $τ_{3/2}^{(n)}$ form factors and the corresponding level splittings. The latter strongly supports a theoretical evidence that the $B$ semileptonic decay into narrow orbitally-excited resonances dominates over the decay into the broad ones, in apparent contradiction with some recent experiments. We discuss this issue.

Quark-binding effects in inclusive decays of heavy mesons

We present a new approach to the analysis of quark-binding effects in inclusive decays of heavy mesons within the relativistic dispersion quark model. Various differential distributions, such as electron energy spectrum, $q^2$- and $M_X$-distributions, are calculated in terms of the $B$ meson soft wave function which also determines long-distance effects in exclusive transition form factors. Using the quark-model parameters and the $B$ meson wave function previously determined from the description of the exclusive $b \to u$ transitions within the same dispersion approach, we provide numerical results on various distributions in the inclusive $B \to X_c lν$ decays.

Pionic coupling constants of heavy mesons in the quark model

We analyse pionic couplings of heavy mesons combining PCAC with the dispersion quark model to calculate the relevant transition form factors. Ground states and radial excitations are considered. For the ground state coupling constants the values $\hat g=0.5\pm0.02$ in the heavy quark limit, $g_{B^*Bπ}=40\pm 3$, $g_{D^*Dπ}=16\pm 2$ are obtained. A sizeable suppression of the coupling constants describing the pionic decays of the radial excitations is observed.

Is the resonance D(2637) really a radial excitation?

We consider various possible identifications of the quantum numbers of the resonance D(2637) recently observed by DELPHI in the $D^*ππ$ channel. We argue that in spite of a good agreement of the measured mass with the quark-model prediction for the radial excitation, a total width as small as $\le 15$ MeV is hardly compatible with its identification as a radial charm excitation. The $J^{P}=2^{-}, 3^{-}$ orbitally excited mesons with such a mass could have widths of the observed order of magnitude. However in this case one would expect two neighbouring states with the mass difference of about 30-50 MeV corresponding to the nearly degenerate components of the heavy- meson multiplet with light-quanta angular momentum j=5/2, and moreover, according to the quark-model predictions the mass of the orbital excitation should be more than 50 MeV larger than 2637 MeV. Thus we conclude that, at present, we find no fully convincing understanding of the quantum numbers of the observed resonance.

Probing right-handed currents in B -> K* l+ l- transitions

We discuss a possibility to probe right-handed weak hadronic currents in rare semileptonic b -> s transitions. It is shown that within models involving right-handed as well as left-handed quark currents (LR models) one can expect a strong enhancement of the right-handed K* production in B -> K* l+ l- decays compared with models including only left-handed quark currents (SM, MSSM). Hence an experimental study of the transverse asymmetry of the produced K* mesons provides a clear test of the presence of the right-handed quark currents and a possibiltity to discriminate between the MSSM and LR extentions of the SM. At the same time, MSSM and LR models are found to yield qualitatively the same type of deviations from the SM in the forward-backward and the longitudinal lepton polarization asymmetries.

Form factors of exclusive $b\to u$ transitions

We present the form factors of the $B\toπ,ρ$ transitions induced by the $b\to u$ quark currents at all kinematically accessible $q^2$. Our analysis is based on the spectral representations of the form factors within the constituent quark picture: we fix the soft meson wave functions and the constituent quark masses by fitting $A_1(q^2)$ and $T_2(q^2)$ to the lattice results at small recoils ($17\lesssim q^2\lesssim 20 GeV^2$). We then calculate the $B\toπ,ρ$ transition form factors down to $q^2=0$. For the $B\toπ$ case the region $q^2\lesssim 20 GeV^2$ however does not cover the whole kinematically accessible range. Due to the smallness of the pion mass the region of small recoils is close to the nearby $B^*(5234)$ resonance. We develop a parametrization which includes the $B^*$ dominance of the form factors $f_+$ and $f_-$ at small recoils and numerically reproduces the results of calculations at $q^2\lesssim 20 GeV^2$. We find $Γ(B\toπ\ellν)=8.0^{+0.8}_{-0.2} |V_{ub}|^2 $ps$^{-1}$ and $Γ(B\toρ\ellν)=15.8\pm 2.3 |V_{ub}|^2 $ps$^{-1}$.

Lepton asymmetries in exclusive $b \to s\ell^+\ell^-$ decays as a test of the Standard Model

We argue that the longitudinal lepton polarization and the forward-backward asymmetries in exclusive $B\to (K,K^*)\ell^+\ell^-$ decays are largely unaffected by the theoretical uncertainties in the long-distance contributions both induced by the long-range charming penguins in the $\ell^+\ell^-$ channel and those in the meson channels encoded in the meson transition form factors, and are mainly determined by the short-distance Wilson coefficients at the low-energy scale $μ\simeq m_b$. Thus, the above mentioned asymmetries provide a powerful probe of the Standard Model and its extensions.

Right-handed currents in rare exclusive B -> (K, K*) nu bar{nu} decays

The effects of possible right-handed weak hadronic currents in rare exclusive semileptonic decays B -> (K, K*) nu bar{nu} are investigated using a lattice-constrained dispersion quark model for the calculation of the relevant mesonic form factors. The results obtained for the branching ratios and the missing energy spectra are presented and the sensitivity of various observables to long-distance physics is investigated. It is shown that the asymmetry of transversely polarized K*(T) mesons as well as the K / K*(T) production ratio are only slightly sensitive to long-distance contributions and mostly governed by the relative strength and phase of right-handed currents. In particular, within the Standard Model the production of right-handed K*(T) mesons turns out to be largely suppressed with respect to left-handed ones, thanks to the smallness of the final to initial meson mass ratio. Therefore, the measurement of produced right-handed K*(T) mesons in rare B -> K* nu bar{nu} decays offers a very interesting tool to investigate right-handed weak hadronic currents.

Rare exclusive semileptonic b -> s transitions in the Standard Model

We study long-distance effects in rare exclusive semileptonic decays B -> (K, K*) (l+ l-, nu bar{nu}) and analyze dilepton spectra and asymmetries within the framework of the Standard Model. The form factors, describing the meson transition amplitudes of the effective Hamiltonian are calculated within the lattice-constrained dispersion quark model: the form factors are given by dispersion representations through the wave functions of the initial and final mesons, and these wave functions are chosen such that the B -> K* transition form factors agree with the lattice results at large q**2. We calculate branching ratios of semileptonic B -> K, K* transition modes and study the sensitivity of observables to the long-distance contributions. The shape of the forward-backward asymmetry and the longitudinal lepton polarization asymmetry are found to be independent of the long-distance effects and mainly determined by the values of the Wilson coefficients in the Standard Model.

Rare decays B -> (K, K*) (l+ l-, nu bar{nu}) in the quark model

Long-distance effects in exclusive rare semileptonic transitions B -> (K, K*) are analysed within a relativistic quark model. The meson transition form factors, describing the meson amplitudes of the effective weak Hamiltonian, are calculated within the dispersion formulation of the quark model as relativistic double spectral representations through the wave functions of the initial and final mesons. The dilepton spectra and lepton asymmetries are considered within the framework provided by the Standard Model. It is found that, while the non-resonant decay rates are very sensitive to quark model parameters, the model dependence of the predicted dilepton forward-backward and lepton polarization asymmetries is remarkably small, providing only an overall ~10% uncertainty.

Form factors for rare decays $B\to(π,ρ,K,K^*)l^+l^-$ in quark model

Hadronic matrix elements of the vector, axial-vector and tensor currents relevant for exclusive rare decays $B\to(π,ρ,K,K^*)\,l^+l^-$ induced by the quark transition $b\to d,s$ are analysed using dispersion formulation of the light-cone constituent quark model. The form factors in the decay region are expressed as relativistic double spectral representations through the light-cone wave functions of the initial and final mesons. These form factors are shown to have the correct scaling properties in the limit of heavy-to-heavy and heavy-to-light quark transitions in accordance with QCD. The dependence on the quark-model parameters is studied.

Form factors of meson decays in constituent quark model

Meson decays are considered within the constituent quark model, making use of the dispersion formulation of the model: Starting with spacelike momentum transfers $q$, meson transition form factors are expressed as relativistic invariant double spectral representations over the invariant masses of the initial and final $Q\bar Q$ pairs. The form factors at timelike momentum transfers are obtained by performing the analytical continuation in $q^2$. As a result, the form factors both in the scattering and decay regions are expressed through the light--cone wave functions of the initial and final hadrons. The constituent quark transition form factor is briefly discussed.

Semileptonic decays $B\to(π,ρ)eν$ in relativistic quark model

Quark model results for the $B\to π,ρ$ decays are analysed, making use of the dispersion formulation of the model: The form factors at $q^2>0$ are expressed as relativistic invariant double spectral representation over invariant masses of the initial and final mesons through their light--cone wave functions. The dependence of the results on the quark model parameters is studied. For various versions of the quark model the ranges $Γ(\bar B^0\toπ^+e\barν)=(7\pm2)\times10^{12}|V_{ub}|^2\; s^{-1}$, $Γ(\bar B^0\toρ^+e\barν)/Γ(\bar B^0\toπ^+e\barν)=1.45\pm0.1$, and $Γ_L/Γ_T=0.7\pm0.08$ are found. The effects of the constituent quark transition form factor are briefly discussed.

Form Factors of Meson Decays in the Relativistic Constituent Quark Model

A formalism for the relativistic description of hadron decays within the constituent quark model is presented. First, hadron amplitudes of the light--cone constituent quark model, in particular the weak transition form factors at spacelike momentum transfers, $q^2\le 0$, are represented in the form of the dispersion integrals over the hadron mass. Second, the form factors at $q^2>0$ are obtained by performing the analytic continuation from the region $q^2<0$. As a result, the transition form factors both in the scattering and the decay regions are expressed through the light--cone wave functions of the initial and final hadrons. The technique is applied to the description of the semileptonic decays of pseudoscalar mesons and direct calculation of the transition form factors at $q^2>0$. Meson properties in the heavy quark limit are investigated.

Quark structure of the pion and pion form factor

We consider the pion structure in the region of low and moderately high momentum transfers: at low $Q^2$, the pion is treated as a composite system of constituent quarks; at moderately high momentum transfers, $Q^2=10\div25\;GeV^2$, the pion \ff is calculated within perturbative QCD taking into account one--gluon hard exchange. Using the data on pion \ff at $Q^2<3\;GeV^2$ and pion axial--vector decay constant, we reconstruct the pion \wf in the soft and intermediate regions. This very wave function combined with one--gluon hard scattering amplitude allows a calculation of the pion \ff in the hard region $Q^2=10\div25\;GeV^2$. A specific feature of the reconstructed pion \wf is a quasi--zone character of the $q\bar q$--excitations. On the basis of the obtained pion \wf and the data on deep inelastic scattering off the pion, the valence quark distribution in a constituent quark is determined.
