Redundant Picard-Fuchs system for Abelian integrals

We derive an explicit system of Picard-Fuchs differential equations satisfied by Abelian integrals of monomial forms and majorize its coefficients. A peculiar feature of this construction is that the system admitting such explicit majorants, appears only in dimension approximately two times greater than the standard Picard-Fuchs system. The result is used to obtain a partial solution to the tangential Hilbert 16th problem. We establish upper bounds for the number of zeros of arbitrary Abelian integrals on a positive distance from the critical locus. Under the additional assumption that the critical values of the Hamiltonian are distant from each other (after a proper normalization), we were able to majorize the number of all (real and complex) zeros. In the second part of the paper an equivariant formulation of the above problem is discussed and relationships between spread of critical values and non-homogeneity of uni- and bivariate complex polynomials are studied.

Minkowski Functionals and Cluster Analysis for CMB Maps

We suggest novel statistics for the CMB maps that are sensitive to non-Gaussian features. These statistics are natural generalizations of the geometrical and topological methods that have been already used in cosmology such as the cumulative distribution function and genus. We compute the distribution functions of the Partial Minkowski Functionals for the excursion set above or bellow a constant temperature threshold. Minkowski Functionals are additive and are translationally and rotationally invariant. Thus, they can be used for patchy and/or incomplete coverage. The technique is highly efficient computationally (it requires only O(N) operations, where N is the number of pixels per one threshold level). Further, it allows to split large data sets into smaller subsets. The full advantage of these statistics can be obtained only on very large data sets. We apply it to the 4-year DMR COBE data corrected for the Galaxy contamination as an illustration of the technique.

Geometry and Statistics of Cosmic Microwave Polarization

Geometrical and statistical properties of polarization of CMB are analyzed. Singular points of the vector field which describes CMB polarization are found and classified. Statistical distribution of the singularities is studied. A possible signature of tensor perturbations in CMB polarization is discussed. For a further analysis of CMB statistics Minkowski functionals are used, which present a technically simple method to search for deviations from a Gaussian distribution.
