Shallow pockets and very strong coupling superconductivity in FeSe_xTe_1-x

We measured the electronic-structure of FeSe_xTe_1-x above and below Tc. In the normal state we find multiple bands with remarkably small values for the Fermi energy, E_F. Yet,below Tc we find a superconducting gap, Delta, that is comparable in size to E_F, leading to a ratio Delta/E_F~0.5 that is much larger than found in any previously studied superconductor. We also observe an anomalous dispersion of the coherence peak which is very similar to the dispersion found in cold Fermi-gas experiments and which is consistent with the predictions of the BCS-BEC crossover theory.

On the divergences of inflationary superhorizon perturbations

We discuss the infrared divergences that appear to plague cosmological perturbation theory. We show that within the stochastic framework they are regulated by eternal inflation so that the theory predicts finite fluctuations. Using the $ΔN$ formalism to one loop, we demonstrate that the infrared modes can be absorbed into additive constants and the coefficients of the diagrammatic expansion for the connected parts of two and three-point functions of the curvature perturbation. As a result, the use of any infrared cutoff below the scale of eternal inflation is permitted, provided that the background fields are appropriately redefined. The natural choice for the infrared cutoff would of course be the present horizon; other choices manifest themselves in the running of the correlators. We also demonstrate that it is possible to define observables that are renormalization group invariant. As an example, we derive a non-perturbative, infrared finite and renormalization point independent relation between the two-point correlators of the curvature perturbation for the case of the free single field.

A vortex dynamics approach to the Nernst effect in fluctuating superconductors

We present a new method to study the Nernst effect and diamagetism of an extreme type-II superconductor dominated by phase fluctuations. We work directly with vortex variables and our method allows us to tune vortex parameters (e.g., core energy and number of vortex species). We find that diamagnetic response and transverse thermoelectric conductivity ($α_{xy}$) persist well above the Kosterlitz-Thouless transition temperature, and become more pronounced as the vortex core energy is increased. However, they \textit{weaken} as the number of internal vortex states are increased. We find that $α_{xy}$ closely tracks the magnetization $(-M/T)$ over a wide range of parameters.

Eternal inflation and localization on the landscape

We model the essential features of eternal inflation on the landscape of a dense discretuum of vacua by the potential $V(ϕ)=V_{0}+δV(ϕ)$, where $|δV(ϕ)|\ll V_{0}$ is random. We find that the diffusion of the distribution function $ρ(ϕ,t)$ of the inflaton expectation value in different Hubble patches may be suppressed due to the effect analogous to the Anderson localization in disordered quantum systems. At $t \to \infty$ only the localized part of the distribution function $ρ(ϕ, t)$ survives which leads to dynamical selection principle on the landscape. The probability to measure any but a small value of the cosmological constant in a given Hubble patch on the landscape is exponentially suppressed at $t\to \infty$.

General asymptotic solutions of the Einstein equations and phase transitions in quantum gravity

We discuss generic properties of classical and quantum theories of gravity with a scalar field which are revealed at the vicinity of the cosmological singularity. When the potential of the scalar field is exponential and unbounded from below, the general solution of the Einstein equations has quasi-isotropic asymptotics near the singularity instead of the usual anisotropic Belinskii - Khalatnikov - Lifshitz (BKL) asymptotics. Depending on the strength of scalar field potential, there exist two phases of quantum gravity with scalar field: one with essentially anisotropic behavior of field correlation functions near the cosmological singularity, and another with quasi-isotropic behavior. The ``phase transition'' between the two phases is interpreted as the condensation of gravitons.

Preheating with Trilinear Interactions: Tachyonic Resonance

We investigate the effects of bosonic trilinear interactions in preheating after chaotic inflation. A trilinear interaction term allows for the complete decay of the massive inflaton particles, which is necessary for the transition to radiation domination. We found that typically the trilinear term is subdominant during early stages of preheating, but it actually amplifies parametric resonance driven by the four-legs interaction. In cases where the trilinear term does dominate during preheating, the process occurs through periodic tachyonic amplifications with resonance effects, which is so effective that preheating completes within a few inflaton oscillations. We develop an analytic theory of this process, which we call tachyonic resonance. We also study numerically the influence of trilinear interactions on the dynamics after preheating. The trilinear term eventually comes to dominate after preheating, leading to faster rescattering and thermalization than could occur without it. Finally, we investigate the role of non-renormalizable interaction terms during preheating. We find that if they are present they generally dominate (while still in a controllable regime) in chaotic inflation models. Preheating due to these terms proceeds through a modified form of tachyonic resonance.

Singularity structure in Veneziano's model

We consider the structure of the cosmological singularity in Veneziano's inflationary model. The problem of choosing initial data in the model is shown to be unsolved -- the spacetime in the asymptotically flat limit can be filled with an arbitrary number of gravitational and scalar field quanta. As a result, the universe acquires a domain structure near the singularity, with an anisotropic expansion of its own being realized in each domain.

On the problem of equation of state for the $Λ$ - field

Recently found accelarated expansion of our Universe is due to the presence of a new kind of matter called "$Λ$ - field" or quintessence. The limitations on its equation of state are found from the fact of its unclustering at all scales much smaller than the cosmological horizon. It is discussed how these limitations affect on the possibility to approximate the accelarated expansion by such cosmological models as the model of Chaplygin gas.

The statistical dynamics of thin vortex line

We discuss the statistical properties of a single vortex line in a perfect fluid. The partition function is calculated up to the end in the thin vortex approximation. It turns out that corresponding theory is renormalizable, and the renormalization law for the core size of the vortex is found. The direction of renormalization group flow makes the thin vortex approximation to be valid for the interest cases and this result does not depend on the choice of infrared regularization. The expressions for some gauge-invariant correlators are obtained to demonstrate the developed formalism at work.
