Superconducting Properties and $μ$SR Study of the Noncentrosymmetric Superconductor Nb$_{0.5}$Os$_{0.5}$

The properties of the noncentrosymmetric superconductor ($α$-$\textit{Mn}$ structure) Nb$_{0.5}$Os$_{0.5}$ is investigated using resistivity, magnetization, specific heat, and muon spin relaxation and rotation ($μ$SR) measurements. These measurements suggest that Nb$_{0.5}$Os$_{0.5}$ is a weakly coupled ($λ_{e-ph}$ $\sim$ 0.53) type-II superconductor ($κ_{GL}$ $\approx$ 61) having a bulk superconducting transition temperature $T_c$ = 3.07 K. The specific heat data in the superconductive regime fits well with the single-gap BCS model indicating nodeless s-wave superconductivity in Nb$_{0.5}$Os$_{0.5}$. The $μ$SR measurements also confirm $\textit{s}$-wave superconductivity with the preserved time-reversal symmetry.

Superconducting Properties of the Non-Centrosymmetric Superconductor Re6Hf

The synthesis and detailed characterization of the noncentrosymmetric superconductor Re$_{6}$Hf using powder x-ray diffraction (XRD), magnetization, transport and thermodynamic measurements are reported. XRD confirms the crystal structure of Re$_{6}$Hf to be cubic noncentrosymmetric $α$-\textit{Mn} with a lattice parameter a = 9.6850(3)\textÅ. Resistivity, DC and AC magnetization confirms the bulk superconducting transition T$_{c}^{onset} \sim $ ~ 5.96 K. The lower critical field H$_{C1}(0)\approx$ 5.6 mT and upper critical H$_{C2}(0)$ was found to be around 12.2 T which is greater than the Pauli limiting field, indicating unconventional behavior in Re$_{6}$Hf and leads to the possibility of triplet pairing. A sharp discontinuity in the specific heat data was observed around T$_{c}$ indicating bulk superconductivity, and the normalized specific heat jump is $ΔC_{el}$/$γ_{n}$T$_{c}$ = 1.53 which is in close agreement with BCS value. Superconducting electronic specific heat data is fitted reasonably well for an exponential relation with Sommerfeld coefficient ($γ$) showing a linear relation with magnetic field suggesting that in Re$_{6}$Hf dominant pairing channel is s-wave with isotropic superconducting gap parameter without nodes.

High Spin Spectroscopy and Shape Evolution in 105Cd

High spin states in 105Cd were studied using 16O beam on 92Mo reaction at an incident beam energy of 75 MeV. The level scheme of 105Cd has been observed up to an excitation energy of 10.8 MeV with the addition of 30 new gamma transitions to the previous work. Spin and parity for most of the reported levels are assigned from the DCO ratios and linear polarization measurements. The microscopic origin of the investigated band structures is discussed in the context of triaxial projected shell model. The energies of observed positive and negative parity bands agree with the predictions of the TPSM by considering triaxial deformation for the observed excited band structures. The shape evolution with increasing angular momentum is explained in the framework of Cranked Shell Model and the Total Routhian Surface calculations.

Halo formation in neutron rich $\rm{Ca}$ nuclei

We have investigated the halo formation in the neutron rich $\rm{Ca}$ isotopes within the framework of recently proposed relativistic mean-field plus BCS (RMF+BCS) approach wherein the single particle continuum corresponding to the RMF is replaced by a set of discrete positive energy states for the calculation of pairing energy. For the neutron rich $\rm{Ca}$ isotopes in the vicinity of neutron drip-line, it is found that further addition of neutrons causes a rapid increase in the neutron rms radius with a very small increase in the binding energy, indicating thereby the occurrence of halos. This is essentially caused by the gradual filling in of the loosely bound $3s_{1/2}$ state. Interesting phenomenon of accommodating several additional neutrons with almost negligible increase in binding energy is shown to be due to the pairing correlations.

Study of two-proton radioactivity within the relativstic mean-field plus bcs approach

Encouraged by the success of RMF+BCS approach for the description of the ground state properties of the chains of isotopes of proton magic nuclei with proton number \textit{Z}=8, 20, 28, 50 and 82 as well as those of proton sub-magic nuclei with \textit{Z}=40, we have further employed it, in an analogous manner, for a detailed calculations of the ground state properties of the neutron magic isotones with neutron number \textit{N} = 8, 20, 28, 50, 82 and 126 as well as those of neutron sub-magic isotones with \textit{N} = 40 using the TMA force parameterizations in order to explore low lying resonance and other exotic phenomenon near drip-lines. The results of these calculations for wave-function, single particle pairing gaps etc. are presented here to demonstrate the general validity of our RMF+BCS approach. It is found that, in some of the proton-rich nuclei in the vicinity of the proton drip-line, the main contribution to the pairing correlations is provided by the low-lying resonant states, in addition to the contributions coming from the states close to the Fermi surface, which results extended proton drip-line for isotonic chain.

Analytic approximations, perturbation methods, and their applications

The paper summarizes the parallel session B3 {\em Analytic approximations, perturbation methods, and their applications} of the GR18 conference. The talks in the session reported notably recent advances in black hole perturbations and post-Newtonian approximations as applied to sources of gravitational waves.

Quantum Radiation of Uniformly Accelerated Spherical Mirrors

We study quantum radiation generated by a uniformly accelerated motion of small spherical mirrors. To obtain Green's function for a scalar massless field we use Wick's rotation. In the Euclidean domain the problem is reduced to finding an electric potential in 4D flat space in the presence of a metallic toroidal boundary. The latter problem is solved by a separation of variables. After performing an inverse Wick's rotation we obtain the Hadamard function in the wave-zone regime and use it to calculate the vacuum fluctuations and the vacuum expectation for the energy density flux in the wave zone.

Spin-1/2 Particles in Non-Inertial Reference Frames: Low- and High-Energy Approximations

Spin-1/2 particles can be used to study inertial and gravitational effects by means of interferometers, particle accelerators, and ultimately quantum systems. These studies require, in general, knowledge of the Hamiltonian and of the inertial and gravitational quantum phases. The procedure followed gives both in the low- and high-energy approximations. The latter affords a more consistent treatment of mass at high energies. The procedure is based on general relativity and on a solution of the Dirac equation that is exact to first-order in the metric deviation. Several previously known acceleration and rotation induced effects are re-derived in a comprehensive, unified way. Several new effects involve spin, electromagnetic and inertial/gravitational fields in different combinations.

Quantum Radiation of a Uniformly Accelerated Refractive Body

We study quantum radiation generated by an accelerated motion of a small body with a refractive index n which differes slightly from 1. To simplify calculations we consider a model with a scalar massless field. We use the perturbation expansion in a small parameter n-1 to obtain a correction to the vacuum Hadamard function for a uniformly accelerated motion of the body. We obtain the vacuum expectation for the energy density flux in the wave zone and discuss its properties.

Quantum Effects in the Presence of Expanding Semi-Transparent Spherical Mirrors

We study quantum effects in the presence of a spherical semi-transparent mirror or a system of two concentric mirrors which expand with a constant acceleration in a flat D-dimensional spacetime. Using the Euclidean approach, we obtain expressions for fluctuations and the renormalized value of stress-energy tensor for a scalar non-minimally coupled massless field. Explicit expressions are obtained for the energy fluxes at the null infinity generated by such mirrors in the physical spacetime and their properties are discussed.
