Generalized Effective String Rope Model for the initial stages of Ultra-Relativistic Heavy Ion Collisions

We present a Generalized Effective String Rope Model (GESRM) for the description of the initial state of relativistic heavy ion collisions. We start from the Effective String Rope Model (ESRM) and take into account fluctuations in the initial state following the Glauber Monte Carlo approach. Results from symmetric Au+Au collisions at different impact parameters and asymmetric A+Au head on collisions are presented at RHIC energies. The produced initial state is used as an initial condition for further hydrodynamical calculations.

Symmetries in subatomic six-quark fermions

The evidence of the existence of tetra-quark meson and penta-quark fermion systems has revived interest in the hunt of other multi-quark systems. We explore the possibility of six-quark cluster configurations with the two nucleon spin-isospin quantum numbers existing in the nuclear medium. The investigation of such clusters is feasible if one exploits all the symmetries involved, in particular orbital, color-spin $SU(6)_{cs}$ and isospin SU(2). We investigate whether such clusters contribute to neutrinoless double-beta decay mediated by heavy neutrinos or other exotic particles, since in conventional nuclear physics the relevant nuclear matrix elements are suppressed due to the presence of the nuclear hard core.

Symmetries in subatomic multi-quark systems

We discus the role of QCD (Quantum Chromodynamics) to low energy phenomena involving the color-spin symmetry of the quark model. We then combine it with orbital and isospin symmetry to obtain wave functions with the proper permutation symmetry, focusing on multi quark systems.

Quark Cluster Model Equations for $ββ$ Decay

In a separate paper we have discussed the possibility that six quark clusters can affect the rate of double-beta decay. In this article we develop the formalism needed in the evaluation of the energy of all six-quark cluster configurations, which can arise in a harmonic oscillator basis up to $2 \hbar ω$ excitations. The symmetries that were found useful for this purpose were the combined spin color symmetry $SU_{cs}(6)$, the orbital symmetry $SU_{o}(6)$ and the isospin symmetry $SU_I(2)$.

An Initial State with Shear in Peripheral Heavy Ion Collisions

In the present work we propose a new initial state model for hydrodynamic simulation of relativistic heavy ion collisions based on Bjorken-like solution applied streak by streak in the transverse plane. Previous fluid dynamical calculations in Cartesian coordinates with an initial state based on a streak by streak Yang-Mills field led for peripheral higher energy collisions to large angular momentum, initial shear flow and significant local vorticity. Recent experiments verified the existence of this vorticity via the resulting polarization of emitted $Λ$ and $\barΛ$ particles. At the same time parton cascade models indicated the existence of more compact initial state configurations, which we are going to simulate in our approach. The proposed model satisfies all the conservation laws including conservation of a strong initial angular momentum which is present in non-central collisions. As a consequence of this large initial angular momentum we observe the rotation of the whole system as well as the fluid shear in the initial state, which leads to large flow vorticity. Another advantage of the proposed model is that the initial state can be given in both [t,x,y,z] and $[τ, x, y, η]$ coordinates, and thus can be tested by all 3+1D hydrodynamical codes which exist in the field.

QGP flow fluctuations and the characteristics of higher moments

The dynamical development of expanding Quark-gluon Plasma (QGP) flow is studied in a 3+1D fluid dynamical model with a globally symmetric, initial condition. We minimize fluctuations arising from complex dynamical processes at finite impact parameters and from fluctuating random initial conditions to have a conservative fluid dynamical background estimate for the statistical distributions of the thermodynamical parameters. We also avoid a phase transition in the equation of state, and we let the matter supercool during the expansion. Then central Pb+Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 2.76$ TeV are studied in an almost perfect fluid dynamical model, with azimuthally symmetric initial state generated in a dynamical flux-tube model. The general development of thermodynamical extensives are also shown for lower energies. We observe considerable deviations from a thermal equilibrium source as a consequence of the fluid dynamical expansion arising from a least fluctuating initial state.

Matching Stages of Heavy Ion Collision Models

Heavy ion reactions and other collective dynamical processes are frequently described by different theoretical approaches for the different stages of the process, like initial equilibration stage, intermediate locally equilibrated fluid dynamical stage and final freeze-out stage. For the last stage the best known is the Cooper-Frye description used to generate the phase space distribution of emitted, non-interacting, particles from a fluid dynamical expansion/explosion, assuming a final ideal gas distribution, or (less frequently) an out of equilibrium distribution. In this work we do not want to replace the Cooper-Frye description, rather clarify the ways how to use it and how to choose the parameters of the distribution, eventually how to choose the form of the phase space distribution used in the Cooper-Frye formula. Moreover, the Cooper-Frye formula is used in connection with the freeze-out problem, while the discussion of transition between different stages of the collision is applicable to other transitions also. More recently hadronization and molecular dynamics models are matched to the end of a fluid dynamical stage to describe hadronization and freeze-out. The stages of the model description can be matched to each other on spacetime hypersurfaces (just like through the frequently used freeze-out hypersurface). This work presents a generalized description of how to match the stages of the description of a reaction to each other, extending the methodology used at freeze-out, in simple covariant form which is easily applicable in its simplest version for most applications.

Chiral Unitary Dynamics of Hadrons and Hadrons in a Nuclear Medium

In this talk I summarize recent findings around the description of axial vector mesons as dynamically generated states from the interaction of pseudoscalar mesons and vector mesons, dedicating some attention to the two $K_1(1270)$ states. Then I review the generation of open and hidden charm scalar and axial states, and how some recent experiment supports the existence of the new hidden charm scalar state predicted. I present recent results showing that the low lying $1/2^+$ baryon resonances for S=-1 can be obtained as bound states or resonances of two mesons and one baryon in coupled channels. Then show the differences with the S=0 case, where the $N^*(1710)$ appears also dynamically generated from the two pion one nucleon system, but the $N^*(1440)$ does not appear, indicating a more complex structure of the Roper resonance. Finally I shall show how the state X(2175), recently discovered at BABAR and BES, appears naturally as a resonance of the $ϕK \bar{K}$ system.

Photo- and Electron-Production of Mesons on Nucleons and Nuclei

In these lectures I will show some results obtained with the chiral unitary approach applied to the photo and electroproduction of mesons. The results for photoproduction of $ηπ^0 p$ and $K^0 π^0 Σ^+$, together with related reactions will be shown, having with common denominator the excitation of the $Δ(1700)$ resonance which is one of those dynamically generated in the chiral unitary approach. Then I will show results obtained for the $e^+ e^- \to ϕf_0(980)$ reaction which reproduce the bulk of the data except for a pronounced peak, giving support to a new mesonic resonance, X(2175). Results will also be shown for the electromagnetic form factors of the $N^*(1535)$ resonance, also dynamically generated in this approach. Finally, I will show some results on the photoproduction of the $ω$ in nuclei, showing that present experimental results claiming a shift of the $ω$ mass in the medium are tied to a particular choice of background and are not conclusive. One the other hand, the same experimental results show unambiguously a huge increase of the $ω$ width in the nuclear medium.

Recent Developments in Chiral Unitary Dynamics of Resonances

In this talk I summarize recent findings made on the description of axial vector mesons as dynamically generated states from the interaction of peseudoscalar mesons and vector mesons, dedicating some attention to the two $K_1(1270)$ states. Then I review the generation of open and hidden charm scalar and axial states. Finally, I present recent results showing that the low lying $1/2^+$ baryon resonances for S=-1 can be obtained as bound states or resonances of two mesons and one baryon in coupled channels dynamics.

Dynamically generated open and hidden charm mesons

In this presentation I explain our framework for dynamically generating resonances from the meson meson interaction. Our model generates many poles in the T-matrix which are associated with known states, while at the same time new states are predicted.

Dynamically Generated Open and Hidden Charm Meson Systems

We will study open and hidden charm scalar meson resonances within two different models. The first one is a direct application of a chiral Lagrangian already used to study flavor symmetry breaking in Skyrme models. In another approach to the problem a SU(4) symmetric Lagrangian is built and the symmetry is broken down to SU(3) by identifying currents where heavy mesons are exchanged and suppressing those. Unitarization in couple channels leads to dynamical generation of resonances in both models, in particular a new hidden charm resonance with mass 3.7 GeV is predicted. The small differences between these models and with previous works will be discussed.

Recent developments in chiral dynamics of hadrons and hadrons in nuclei

In this talk I present recent developments in the field of hadronic physics and hadrons in the nuclear medium. I review the unitary chiral approach to meson baryon interaction and address the topics of the two dynamically generated $Λ(1405)$ resonances, with experiments testing it, the $Λ(1520)$ and $Δ(1700)$ resonances, plus the $Λ(1520)$, $Σ(1385)$ and $ω$ in the nuclear medium.

Clues to the nature of the Delta^*(1700) resonance from pion- and photon-induced reactions

We make a study of the (pi^- p --> K^0 pi^0 Lambda), (pi^+ p --> K^+ pi^+ Lambda), (K^+\bar{K}^0 p), (K^+ pi^+ Sigma^0), (K^+ pi^0 Sigma^+), and (eta pi^+ p) reactions, in which the basic dynamics is given by the excitation of the Delta^*(1700) resonance which subsequently decays into (K Sigma^*(1385)) or (Delta(1232) eta). In a similar way we also study the (gamma p --> K^0 pi^+ Lambda), (K^+ pi^- Sigma^+), (K^+ pi^+ Sigma^-), (K^0 pi^0 Sigma^+), and (eta pi^0 p) related reactions. The cross sections are proportional to the square of the coupling of Delta^*(1700) to (Sigma^*K), (Delta eta) for which there is no experimental information but which is provided in the context of coupled channels chiral unitary theory where the Delta^*(1700) is dynamically generated. Within present theoretical and experimental uncertainties one can claim a global qualitative agreement between theory and experiment. We provide a list of items which need to be improved in order to make further progress along these lines.

Chiral dynamics in the gamma p --> pi^0 eta p and gamma p --> pi^0 K^0 Sigma^+ reactions

Using a chiral unitary approach for meson-baryon scattering in the strangeness zero sector, where the $N^*(1535)$ resonance is dynamically generated, we study the reactions $γp \to π^0 ηp$ and $γp \to π^0 K^0 Σ^+$ at photon energies at which the final states are produced close to threshold. Among several reaction mechanisms, we find the most important is the excitation of the $Δ^*(1700)$ state which subsequently decays into a pseudoscalar meson and a baryon belonging to the $Δ(1232)$ decuplet. Hence, the reaction provides useful information with which to test current theories of the dynamical generation of the low-lying $3/2^-$ states. The first reaction is shown to lead to sizable cross sections and the $N^*(1535)$ resonance shape is seen clearly in the $ηp$ invariant mass distribution. The same dynamical model is shown to lead to much smaller cross sections at low energies in the second reaction. Predictions are made for cross sections and invariant mass distributions which can be compared with forthcoming experiments at ELSA.

Direct detection of supersymmetric dark matter- Theoretical rates for transitions to excited states

The recent WMAP data have confirmed that exotic dark matter together with the vacuum energy (cosmological constant) dominate in the flat Universe. Supersymmetry provides a natural dark matter candidate, the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP). Thus the direct dark matter detection is central to particle physics and cosmology. Most of the research on this issue has hitherto focused on the detection of the recoiling nucleus. In this paper we study transitions to the excited states, focusing on the first excited state at 50 keV of Iodine A=127. We find that the transition rate to this excited state is about 10 percent of the transition to the ground state. So, in principle, the extra signature of the gammai ray following its de-excitation can be exploited experimentally.
