Observation of $ψ(3686)\to p\bar{p}ϕ$

Using a data sample of $4.48\times10^{8}$ $\psip$ events collected with the BESIII detector, we present a first observation of $ψ(3686)\to p\bar{p}ϕ$, and we measure its branching fraction to be $[6.06\pm0.38 ($stat.$) \pm 0.48 ($syst.$)]\times10^{-6}$. In contrast to the earlier discovery of a threshold enhancement in the $p\bar{p}$-mass spectrum of the channel $J/ψ\toγp\bar p$, denoted as $X(p\bar{p})$, we do not find a similar enhancement in $ψ(3686)\to p\bar{p}ϕ$. An upper limit of $1.82\times10^{-7}$ at the $90\%$ confidence level on the branching fraction of $ψ(3686)\to X(p\bar{p})ϕ\to p\bar{p}ϕ$ is obtained.

Observation of the decay $X(3872) \to π^0 χ_{c1}(1P)$

Using a total of $9.0~\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ of $e^+e^-$ collision data with center-of-mass energies between 4.15 and 4.30 GeV collected by the BESIII detector, we search for the processes $e^+e^-\to γX(3872)$ with $X(3872)\toπ^0χ_{cJ}$ for $J=0,1,2$. We report the first observation of $X(3872)\toπ^{0}χ_{c1}$, a new decay mode of the $X(3872)$, with a statistical significance of more than 5$σ$. Normalizing to the previously established process $e^+e^-\to γX(3872)$ with $X(3872)\toπ^+π^-J/ψ$, we find ${\cal B}(X(3872) \to π^0 χ_{c1})/{\cal B}(X(3872) \to π^+π^- J/ψ) = 0.88^{+0.33}_{-0.27}\pm0.10$, where the first error is statistical and the second is systematic. We set 90% confidence level upper limits on the corresponding ratios for the decays to $π^0χ_{c0}$ and $π^0χ_{c2}$ of 19 and 1.1, respectively.

Skyrmion crystals in frustrated Shastry-Sutherland magnets

The phase diagrams of the frustrated classical spin model with Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya (DM) interaction on the Shastry-Sutherland (S-S) lattice are studied by means of Monte Carlo simulation. For ferromagnetic next-nearest-neighboring (J2) interactions, the introduced exchange frustration enhances the effect of the DM interaction, which enlarges the magnetic field-range with the skyrmion lattice phase and increases the skyrmion density. For antiferromagnetic J2 interactions, the so-called 2q phase (two-sublattice skyrmion crystal) and the spin-flop phase are observed in the simulated phase diagram, and their stabilizations are closely dependent on the DM interaction and J2 interaction, respectively. The simulated results are qualitatively explained from the energy landscape, which provides useful information for understanding the intriguing phases in S-S magnets.

Staggered field driven domain walls motion in antiferromagnetic heterojunctions

In this work, we study the antiferromagnetic (AFM) spin dynamics in heterostructures which consist of two kinds of AFM layers. Our micromagnetic simulations demonstrate that the AFM domain-wall (DW) can be driven by the other one (driven by field-like Neel spin-orbit torque, Phys. Rev. Lett. 117, 017202 (2016)) through the interface couplings. Furthermore, the two DWs detach from each other when the torque increases above a critical value. The critical field and the highest possible velocity of the DW depending on several factors are revealed and discussed. Bases on the calculated results, we propose a method to modulate efficiently the multi DWs in antiferromagnet, which definitely provides useful information for future AFM spintronics device design.

Direct detection of a break in the teraelectronvolt cosmic-ray spectrum of electrons and positrons

High energy cosmic ray electrons plus positrons (CREs), which lose energy quickly during their propagation, provide an ideal probe of Galactic high-energy processes and may enable the observation of phenomena such as dark-matter particle annihilation or decay. The CRE spectrum has been directly measured up to $\sim 2$ TeV in previous balloon- or space-borne experiments, and indirectly up to $\sim 5$ TeV by ground-based Cherenkov $γ$-ray telescope arrays. Evidence for a spectral break in the TeV energy range has been provided by indirect measurements of H.E.S.S., although the results were qualified by sizeable systematic uncertainties. Here we report a direct measurement of CREs in the energy range $25~{\rm GeV}-4.6~{\rm TeV}$ by the DArk Matter Particle Explorer (DAMPE) with unprecedentedly high energy resolution and low background. The majority of the spectrum can be properly fitted by a smoothly broken power-law model rather than a single power-law model. The direct detection of a spectral break at $E \sim0.9$ TeV confirms the evidence found by H.E.S.S., clarifies the behavior of the CRE spectrum at energies above 1 TeV and sheds light on the physical origin of the sub-TeV CREs.

The DArk Matter Particle Explorer mission

The DArk Matter Particle Explorer (DAMPE), one of the four scientific space science missions within the framework of the Strategic Pioneer Program on Space Science of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, is a general purpose high energy cosmic-ray and gamma-ray observatory, which was successfully launched on December 17th, 2015 from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center. The DAMPE scientific objectives include the study of galactic cosmic rays up to $\sim 10$ TeV and hundreds of TeV for electrons/gammas and nuclei respectively, and the search for dark matter signatures in their spectra. In this paper we illustrate the layout of the DAMPE instrument, and discuss the results of beam tests and calibrations performed on ground. Finally we present the expected performance in space and give an overview of the mission key scientific goals.

Measuring Hawking Radiation of a Kerr-Newman Black Hole in a Superconducting Transmission Line

Applying a dimensional reduction technique and a coordinates transformation approach, we deduce the Kerr-Newman space-time into a Painlevé-like form, and obtain its corresponding event horizon and the Hawking radiation temperature. We find that, the event horizon of a Kerr-Newman black hole can be simulated in a superconducting transmission line. Moreover, by running some numerical simulation, we confirm that the Hawking radiation of a Kerr-Newman Black Hole can be experimentally measured in a superconducting transmission line.

Correlation between Peak Energy and Peak Luminosity in Short Gamma-Ray Bursts

A correlation between the peak luminosity and the peak energy has been found by Yonetoku et al. as $L_{p}\propto E_{p,i}^{2.0}$ for 11 pre-Swift long gamma-ray bursts. In this study, for a greatly expanded sample of 148 long gamma-ray bursts in the Swift era, we find that the correlation still exists, but most likely with a slightly different power-law index, i.e., $L_{p}\propto E_{p,i} ^{1.7}$. In addition, we have collected 17 short gamma-ray bursts with necessary data. It is found that the correlation of $L_{p}\propto E_{p,i} ^{1.7}$ also exists for this sample of short events. It is argued that the radiation mechanism of both long and short gamma-ray bursts should be similar, i.e., of quasi-thermal origin caused by the photosphere and the dissipation occurring very near the central engine. Some key parameters of the process are constrained. Our results suggest that the radiation process of both long and short bursts may be dominated by thermal emission, rather than the single synchrotron radiation. This might put strong physical constraints on the theoretical models.

Two-photon exchange effect on deuteron electromagnetic form factors

Corrections of two-photon exchange to proton and neutron electromagnetic form factors are employed to study the effect of two-photon exchange on the deuteron electromagnetic form factors. Numerical results of the effect are given. It is suggested to test the effect in the measurement of $P_z$ in a small angle limit.

Two-Photon Exchange Contribution to Proton Form Factors in Time-Like region

We estimate two-photon exchange contribution to the process $e^+ +e^- \to p + \bar{p}$. The two-photon exchange corrections to double spin polarization observables and form factors in the time-like region are calculated. The corrections are found to be small in magnitude, but with a strong angular dependence at fixed momentum transfer. These two features are the same as those in the space-like region. In the view of experiment, the double spin polarization observable $P_z$ deserves to be considered.
