Testing Unate Distributions

We initiate the study of *unate distributions* over $\{\pm1\}^n$ -- a natural analogue of unate Boolean functions -- by considering two basic testing problems that parallel well-studied questions for monotone distributions: - Uniformity Testing of Unate Distributions: We show that $\widetilde{\Theta}(n^{3/2})$ samples are sufficient and necessary, in contrast to the $\widetilde{\Theta}(n)$ sample complexity of the analogous problem for monotone distributions (Rubinfeld and Servedio, STOC 2005; Adamaszek, Czumaj, and Sohler, SODA 2010). - Unateness Testing of Arbitrary Distributions: We give a tester that uses $\widetilde{O}(n^{3/2})$ conditional samples in the subcube conditional model. On the other hand, every tester that draws conditional samples in a similar fashion, namely from $O(1)$-dimensional subcubes, must have an $\widetilde{\Omega}(n^{2/3})$ complexity. In the same model, the complexity of monotonicity testing was recently shown to be $\widetilde{\Theta}(n)$ (Chakrabarty et al., STOC 2025). Our algorithms for both problems significantly outperform the naive approach of reducing to the monotone case, which would incur $\Omega(n^2)$ sample complexity. Our uniformity tester relies on a subroutine that "weakly" learns the hidden orientations of a unate distribution, together with a new correlation bound for these estimates. Both tools may be of independent interest in studying monotonicity and unateness over $\{\pm1\}^n$.

Conditional variational autoencoder to improve neural audio synthesis for polyphonic music sound

Deep generative models for audio synthesis have recently been significantly improved. However, the task of modeling raw-waveforms remains a difficult problem, especially for audio waveforms and music signals. Recently, the realtime audio variational autoencoder (RAVE) method was developed for high-quality audio waveform synthesis. The RAVE method is based on the variational autoencoder and utilizes the two-stage training strategy. Unfortunately, the RAVE model is limited in reproducing wide-pitch polyphonic music sound. Therefore, to enhance the reconstruction performance, we adopt the pitch activation data as an auxiliary information to the RAVE model. To handle the auxiliary information, we propose an enhanced RAVE model with a conditional variational autoencoder structure and an additional fully-connected layer. To evaluate the proposed structure, we conducted a listening experiment based on multiple stimulus tests with hidden references and an anchor (MUSHRA) with the MAESTRO. The obtained results indicate that the proposed model exhibits a more significant performance and stability improvement than the conventional RAVE model.

Friedmann equations and emergence of cosmic space

In this paper, we show that Padmanabhan's conjecture for the emergence of cosmic space [arXiv:1206.4916] holds for the flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker universe in Einstein gravity but does not hold for the non-flat case unless one uses the aerial volume instead of the proper volume. Doing this, we also show that various works extending Padmanabhan's conjecture to non-Einstein and non-flat cases have serious shortfalls. This analysis is done using the Friedmann equation with the further assumptions of the holographic principle and the equipartition rule of energy.

Brans-Dicke Gravity from Entropic Viewpoint

We interpret the Brans-Dicke gravity from entropic viewpoint. We first apply the Verlinde's entropic formalism in the Einstein frame, then perform the conformal transformation which connects the Einstein frame to the Jordan frame. The transformed result yields the equation of motion of the Brans-Dicke theory in the Jordan frame.

Noncommutative Solitonic Black Hole

We investigate solitonic black hole solutions in three dimensional noncommutative spacetime. We do this in gravity with negative cosmological constant coupled to a scalar field. Noncommutativity is realized with the Moyal product which is expanded up to first order in the noncommutativity parameter in two spatial directions. With numerical simulation we study the effect of noncommutativity by increasing the value of the noncommutativity parameter starting from commutative solutions. We find that even a regular soliton solution in the commutative case becomes a black hole solution when the noncommutativity parameter reaches a certain value.

Schwarzschild-de Sitter black hole from entropic viewpoint

In a Schwarzschild-de Sitter space, we consider an equipotential surface which consists of two holographic screens. Adapting the Bousso-Hawking's reference point of vanishing force, we divide the space into two regions, which are from the reference point to each holographic screen. These two regions can be treated as independent thermodynamical systems, because the Bousso-Hawking reference point with zero temperature behaves like a thermally insulating wall. The entropy obtained in this way agrees with the conventional results; i) when the holographic screens lie at the black hole and cosmological horizons, ii) in the Nariai limit.

Bound of Noncommutativity Parameter Based on Black Hole Entropy

We study the bound of the noncommutativity parameter in the noncommutative Schwarzschild black hole which is a solution of the noncommutative ISO(3,1) Poincare gauge group. The statistical entropy satisfying the area law in the brick wall method yields a cutoff relation which depends on the noncommutativity parameter. Requiring both the cutoff parameter and the noncommutativity parameter to be real, the noncommutativity parameter can be shown to be bounded as $Θ> 8.4\ times 10^{-2}l_{p}$.

Surface gravity and Hawking temperature from entropic force viewpoint

We consider a freely falling holographic screen for the Schwarzschild and Reissner-Nordström black holes and evaluate the entropic force à la Verlinde. When the screen crosses the event horizon, the temperature of the screen agrees to the Hawking temperature and the entropic force gives rise to the surface gravity for both of the black holes.

Noncommutative Relativistic U(N) Chern-Simons Solitons

We investigate BPS soliton solutions of U(N) Chern-Simons gauge theory coupled to a scalar field in noncommutative plane. With a scalar field in the fundamental representation, we show that the BPS equation becomes that of abelian Chern-Simons theory in the unitary gauge. We also find a class of particular solutions for the BPS equation with scalar field in the adjoint representation.

Rotating Black Hole Entropy from Two Different Viewpoints

Using the brick-wall method, we study the entropy of Kerr-Newman black hole from two different viewpoints, a rest observer at infinity and zero angular momentum observer near horizon. We investigate this with scalar field in the canonical quantization approach. An observer at infinity can take one of the two possible frequency ranges; one is with positive frequencies only and the other is with the whole range including negative frequencies. On the other hand, a zero angular momentum observer near horizon can take positive frequencies only. For the observer at infinity the superradiant modes appear in either choice of the frequency ranges and the two results coincide. For the zero angular momentum observer superradiant modes do not appear due to absence of ergoregion. The resulting entropies from the two viewpoints turn out to be the same.

Coordinate Dependence of Chern-Simons Theory on Noncommutative AdS3

We investigate the coordinate dependence of noncommutative theory by studying the solutions of noncommutative $U(1,1)\times U(1,1)$ Chern-Simons theory on $AdS_3$ in the polar and rectangular coordinates. We assume that only the space coordinates are noncommuting. The two coordinate systems are equivalent only up to first order in the noncommutativity parameter $θ$. We investigate the effect of this non-exact equivalence between the two coordinate systems in two cases, a conical solution and a BTZ black hole solution, using the Seiberg-Witten map. In each case, the noncommutative solutions in the two coordinate systems obtained from the corresponding same commutative solution turn out to be different even in the first order in $θ$.

Charged Rotating Black Holes on DGP Brane

We consider charged rotating black holes localized on a three-brane in the DGP model. Assuming a $Z_2$-symmetry across the brane and with a stationary and axisymmetric metric ansatz on the brane, a particular solution is obtained in the Kerr-Schild form. This solution belongs to the accelerated branch of the DGP model and has the characteristic of the Kerr-Newman-de Sitter type solution in general relativity. Using a modified version of Boyer-Lindquist coordinates we examine the structures of the horizon and ergosphere.

Noncommutative BTZ Black Hole in Polar Coordinates

Based on the equivalence between the three dimensional gravity and the Chern-Simons theory, we obtain a noncommutative BTZ black hole solution as a solution of $U(1,1)\times U(1,1)$ noncommutative Chern-Simons theory using the Seiberg-Witten map. The Seiberg-Witten map is carried out in a noncommutative polar coordinates whose commutation relation is equivalent to the usual canonical commutation relation in the rectangular coordinates up to first order in the noncommutativity parameter $θ$. The solution exhibits a characteristic of noncommutative polar coordinates in such a way that the apparent horizon and the Killing horizon coincide only in the non-rotating limit showing the effect of noncommutativity between the radial and angular coordinates.

Kerr-Newman-de Sitter Solution on DGP Brane

We find an exact solution of Kerr-Newman-de Sitter type on the braneworld(4D) of the DGP model. When a constant 4D Ricci scalar is assumed, only zero(flat) and a positive(de-Sitter) values satisfy the Hamiltonian constraint equation coming from the extra dimension. With a Z_2-symmetry across the brane and a stationary and axisymmetric metric ansatz on the brane, we solve the constraint equation exactly in the Kerr-Schild form with de-Sitter background. In the de-Sitter background this Kerr-Schild solution is well behaved under Boyer-Lindquist transformation: the constraint equation is preserved under the transformation and so is the solution. In the non-rotating limit we show that this Kerr-Newman-de Sitter solution has the characteristic of accelerated expansion of the braneworld universe.

Entropy of Schwarzschild Black Holes on DGP Brane

We study the entropy of Schwarzschild black holes on DGP brane. The radius of event horizon on DGP brane is obtained by a numerical method. It is smaller than that of Einstein gravity in the conventional branch, and is larger in the accelerated branch. However, the difference is very small. The entropy of the black hole is calculated by using the improved brick-wall method.

Charged Black Holes on DGP Brane

We consider charged black holes localized on a three-brane in the DGP model. With a spherically symmetric metric ansatz on the brane and assuming a Z_2-symmetry across the brane, we find two types of solutions which correspond to the so-called regular and accelerated branches in the DGP model. When the charge of the black hole vanishes, our solutions agree with the Schwarzschild solutions obtained by Gabadadze and Iglesias.

Quantum Entanglement under Lorentz Boost

In order to understand the characteristics of quantum entanglement of massive particles under Lorentz boost, we first introduce a relevant relativistic spin observable, and evaluate its expectation values for the Bell states under Lorentz boost. Then we show that maximal violation of the Bell's inequality can be achieved by properly adjusting the directions of the spin measurement even in a relativistically moving inertial frame. Based on this we infer that the entanglement information is preserved under Lorentz boost as a form of correlation information determined by the transformation characteristic of the Bell state in use.
