Fuzzy Euclidean wormholes in the inflationary universe

In this paper, we investigate complex-valued Euclidean wormholes in the Starobinsky inflation. Due to the properties of the concave inflaton potential, the classicality condition at both ends of the wormhole can be satisfied, as long as the initial condition of the inflaton field is such that it is located sufficiently close to the hilltop. We compare the probabilities of classicalized wormholes with the Hartle-Hawking compact instantons and conclude that the Euclidean wormholes are probabilistically preferred than compact instantons, if the inflation lasts more than 50 e-foldings. Our result assumes that the Euclidean path integral is the correct effective description of quantum gravity. This opens a new window for various future investigations that can be either confirmed or refuted by future experiments.

Expanded evasion of the black hole no-hair theorem in dilatonic Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet theory

We study a hairy black hole solution in the dilatonic Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet theory of gravitation, in which the Gauss-Bonnet term is non-minimally coupled to the dilaton field. Hairy black holes with spherical symmetry seem to be easily constructed with a positive Gauss-Bonnet coefficient $α$ within the coupling function, $f(ϕ) = αe^{γϕ}$, in an asymptotically flat spacetime, i.e., no-hair theorem seems to be easily evaded in this theory. Therefore, it is natural to ask whether this construction can be expanded into the case with the negative coefficient $α$. In this paper, we present numerically the dilaton black hole solutions with a negative $α$ and analyze the properties of GB term through the aspects of the black hole mass. We construct the new integral constraint allowing the existence of the hairy solutions with the negative $α$. Through this procedure, we expand the evasion of the no-hair theorem for hairy black hole solutions.

c-theorem of the entanglement entropy

We holographically investigate the renormalization group flow in a two-dimensional conformal field theory deformed by a relevant operator. If the relevant operator allows another fixed point, the UV conformal field theory smoothly flows to a new IR conformal field theory. From the holographic point of view, such a renormalization group flow can be realized as a dual geometry interpolating two different AdS boundaries. On this interpolating geometry, we investigate how the c-function of the entanglement entropy behaves along the RG flow analyt- ically and numerically, which reproduces the expected central charges of UV and IR. We also show that the c-function monotonically decreases from UV to IR without any phase transition.

Quantum entanglement in inflationary cosmology

We investigate the holographic quantum entanglement of a visible universe in an inflationary cosmology. To do so, we consider an AdS space with a dS boundary which represents an expanding space in time. In an inflationary cosmology, there exists a natural entangling surface called a cosmic event horizon which divides a universe into visible and invisible parts. In this model, cosmic event horizon monotonically decreases and approaches a constant value proportional to the inverse of Hubble constant. We show that the quantum entanglement between the visible and invisible universes divided by cosmic event horizon decreases monotonically in time. After an infinite time evolution, it finally approaches a constant value which is proportional to the inverse square of the Hubble constant for a four-dimensional dS space.

Dilaton Field Released under Collision of Dilatonic Black Holes with Gauss-Bonnet Term

We investigate the upper limit of the gravitational radiation released upon the collision of two dilatonic black holes by analyzing the Gauss-Bonnet term. Dilatonic black holes have a dilaton hair coupled with this term. Using the laws of thermodynamics, the upper limit of the radiation is obtained, which reflected the effects of the dilaton hair. The amount of radiation released is greater than that emitted by a Schwarzschild black hole due to the contribution from the dilaton hair. In the collision, most of the dilaton hair can be released through radiation, where the energy radiated by the dilaton hair is maximized when the horizon of one black hole is minimized for a fixed second black hole.

Phase transition for black holes in dilatonic Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet theory of gravitation

We study the thermodynamic properties of a black hole and the Hawking-Page phase transition in the asymptotically anti--de Sitter spacetime in the dilatonic Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet theory of gravitation. We show how the higher-order curvature terms can influence both the thermodynamic properties and the phase transition. We evaluate both heat capacity and free energy difference to determine the local and global thermodynamic stabilities, respectively. We find that the phase transition occurs from the thermal anti--de Sitter to a small spherical black hole geometry and occurs to a hyperbolic black hole geometry in the (dilatonic) Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet theory of gravitation unlike those in Einstein's theory of gravitation.

Spin Interaction under the Collision of Two Kerr-(anti-)de Sitter Black Holes

We have investigated spin interaction under the collision of Kerr-(anti-)de Sitter black holes. The potential of a spin interaction is dependent on the relative rotating directions of the black holes, and this potential can be released as gravitational radiation under the collision. The radiation depends on the cosmological constant and corresponds to the potential of the spin interaction at a limit where one of the black holes is assumed to have small mass and angular momentum. Then, we have shown, approximately, the overall behaviors of the upper bounds on the radiation using thermodynamics. From these bounds, the spin interaction can consistently contribute to the radiation. In addition, the radiation depends on the stability of the black hole synthesized from the collision.

Matrix models from localization of five-dimensional supersymmetric noncommutative U(1) gauge theory

We study localization of five-dimensional supersymmetric $U(1)$ gauge theory on $\mathbb{S}^3 \times \mathbb{R}_θ^{2}$ where $\mathbb{R}_θ^{2}$ is a noncommutative (NC) plane. The theory can be isomorphically mapped to three-dimensional supersymmetric $U(N \to \infty)$ gauge theory on $\mathbb{S}^3$ using the matrix representation on a separable Hilbert space on which NC fields linearly act. Therefore the NC space $\mathbb{R}_θ^{2}$ allows for a flexible path to derive matrix models via localization from a higher-dimensional supersymmetric NC $U(1)$ gauge theory. The result shows a rich duality between NC $U(1)$ gauge theories and large $N$ matrix models in various dimensions.

Instability of Charged Anti-de Sitter Black Holes

We study the instability of charged anti-de Sitter black holes in four or higher-dimension under fragmentation. The instability of fragmentation breaks the black hole into two black holes. We have found that the region near extremal or massive black holes become unstable under fragmentation. These regions depend not only on the mass and charge of initial black hole but also those of the fragmented one. The instability in higher-dimension is qualitatively similar to that of four-dimension. The detailed instabilities are numerically investigated.

Instantons near a tachyonic top in anti de Sitter and the no-boundary regulator

We investigate instantons near a tachyonic top in an anti de Sitter (AdS) background. If the mass scale around the hill-top is above the Breitenlohner-Freedman (BF) bound, then the top is classically stable. When the BF bound is satisfied, it is already known that there can exist instantons with a non-zero probability, though fine-tunings of the potential are required. On the other hand, we may consider a possibility to obtain instantons with a non-zero probability for more natural shape of potentials. We found that the no-boundary regulator is useful to assign a non-zero probability for general instantons near the tachyonic top with a consistent framework. To use the no-boundary regulator, we need to introduce the complexification of fields. One interesting feature is that, for these AdS instantons, the classicality may not be satisfied after the Wick rotation and hence after the nucleation. This magnifies a novel difference between dS and AdS; a semi-classical boundary observer in AdS may notice the dispersion of quantum fields as a kind of uncertainty, while every semi-classical observers in dS are classicalized individually and hence there is no semi-classical observer who can see the quantum dispersion of the scalar field.

Oscillating Fubini instantons in curved space

A Fubini instanton is a bounce solution which describes the decay of a vacuum state located at the top of the tachyonic potential {\it via} the tunneling without a barrier. We investigate various types of Fubini instantons of a self-gravitating scalar field under a tachyonic quartic potential. With gravity taken into account, we show there exist various types of unexpected solutions including oscillating bounce solutions. We present numerically oscillating Fubini bounce solutions in anti-de Sitter and de Sitter spaces. We construct the parametric phase diagrams of the solutions, which is the extension of our previous work. Of particular significance is that there always exist solutions in all parameter spaces in anti-de Sitter space. The regions are divided depending on the number of oscillations. On the other hand, de Sitter space allows solutions with codimension-one in parameter spaces. We numerically evaluate semiclassical exponents which give the finite tunneling probabilities.

Fubini instantons in curved space

We study Fubini instantons of a self-gravitating scalar field. The Fubini instanton describes the decay of a vacuum state under tunneling instead of rolling in the presence of a tachyonic potential. The tunneling occurs from the maximum of the potential, which is a vacuum state, to any arbitrary state, belonging to the tunneling without any barrier. We consider two different types of the tachyonic potential. One has only a quartic term. The other has both the quartic and quadratic terms. We show that, there exist several kinds of new O(4)-symmetric Fubini instanton solution, which are possible only if gravity is taken into account. One type of them has the structure with $Z_2$ symmetry. This type of the solution is possible only in the de Sitter background. We discuss on the interpretation of the solutions with $Z_2$ symmetry.
