On the fractional diffusion for the linear Boltzmann equation with drift and general cross-section

This paper is devoted to the hydrodynamic limit for the linear Boltzmann equation, in the case of a heavy tail equilibrium and a cross section which depends on the space variable and which degenerates for large velocities, without symmetry assumptions. For an appropriate time scale, a macroscopic equation with an elliptic operator, which is equivalent to the fractional Laplacian, is obtained. This problem has been addressed in [Mellet, Mischler and Mouhot, ARMA, 2011] for a space-independent cross section, using a Fourier-Laplace transform, where a fractional diffusion equation has been obtained, and revisited in [Mellet, Indiana Univ., 2010] for a space-dependent but a bounded cross section, using the moments method by introducing an auxiliary problem. In this work, we will adapt the latter method to generalize both results.

On the spectral problem and fractional diffusion limit for Fokker-Planck with(-out) drift and for a general heavy tail equilibrium

This paper is devoted to the study of a kinetic Fokker-Planck equation with general heavy-tailed equilibrium without an explicit formula, such as $C_\beta \langle v \rangle^{-\beta}$, in particular non-symmetric and non-centred. This work extends the results obtained in [Dechicha and Puel, 2023] and [Dechicha and Puel, Asymptot. Anal., 2024]. We prove that if the equilibrium behaves like $\langle v \rangle^{-\beta}$ at infinity with $\beta > d$, along with an other assumption, there exists a unique eigenpair solution to the spectral problem associated with the Fokker-Planck operator, taking into account the advection term. As a direct consequence of this construction, and under the hypothesis of the convergence of the rescaled equilibrium, we obtain the fractional diffusion limit for the kinetic Fokker-Planck equation, with or without drift, depending on the decay of the equilibrium and whether or not the first moment is finite. This latter result generalizes all previous results on the fractional diffusion limit for the Fokker-Planck equation and rigorously justifies the remarks and results mentioned in [Bouin and Mouhot, PMP, 2022, Section 9].

Gevrey regularity and analyticity for the solutions of the Vlasov-Navier-Stokes system

In this paper, we prove propagation of $\frac{1}{s}$-Gevrey regularity $(s \in (0, 1))$ and analyticity $(s=1)$ for the Vlasov-Navier-Stokes system on $\mathbb{T}^d \times \mathbb{R}^d$ (and $\mathbb{R}^d\times\mathbb{R}^d$) using a Fourier space method in analogy to the results proved for the Euler system in [Kukavica and Vicol, Proc. Amer. Math. Soc., 2009] and [Levermore and Oliver, JDE, 1997] and for Vlasov-Poisson system in [Velozo Ruiz, Ann. Inst. H. Poincar\'e C Anal. Non Lin\'eaire, 2021]. More precisely, we give quantitative estimates for the growth of the $\frac{1}{s}$-Gevrey norm and decay of the regularity radius for the solution of the system in terms of $\nabla_x u$, the spatial density $\rho_f$ and the diameter of the support in the velocity variable of the distribution of particles $f$. In particular, this implies existence of $\frac{1}{s}$-Gevrey $(s \in (0, 1))$ and analytic $(s = 1)$ solutions for the Vlasov-Navier-Stokes system in $\mathbb{T}^d\times\mathbb{R}^d$ (and $\mathbb{R}^d\times\mathbb{R}^d$), and global Gevrey solutions in $\mathbb{T}^3\times\mathbb{R}^3$ for sufficiently small data, and an initial data for the Vlasov equation with compact support in velocity.

Construction of an eigen-solution for the Fokker-Planck operator with heavy tail equilibrium: an `a la Koch method in dimension 1

This paper is devoted to the construction of an \emph{eigen-solution} for the Fokker-Planck operator with heavy tail equilibrium. We propose an \textit{alternative} method in dimension 1, which will be generalizable in higher dimension. The later method is inspired by the work of H. Koch on non-linear KdV equation \cite{Koch}. As a consequence of this construction, we recover the result of G. Lebeau and M. Puel \cite{LebPu} on the fractional diffusion limit for the Fokker-Planck equation.

Fractional diffusion for Fokker-Planck equation with heavy tail equilibrium: an \`a la Koch spectral method in any dimension

In this paper, we extend the spectral method developed [Dechicha and Puel, 2023] to any dimension $d\geqslant 1$, in order to construct an eigen-solution for the Fokker-Planck operator with heavy tail equilibria, of the form $(1+|v|^2)^{-\frac{\beta}{2}}$, in the range $\beta \in ]d,d+4[$. The method developed in dimension 1 was inspired by the work of H. Koch on nonlinear KdV equation [Koch, Nonlinearity, 2015]. The strategy in this paper is the same as in dimension 1 but the tools are different, since dimension 1 was based on ODE methods. As a direct consequence of our construction, we obtain the fractional diffusion limit for the kinetic Fokker-Planck equation, for the correct density $\rho := \int_{\mathbb{R}^d} f \mathrm{d}v$, with a fractional Laplacian $\kappa(-\Delta_x)^{\frac{\beta-d+2}{6}}$ and a positive diffusion coefficient $\kappa$.
