Pressure Evolution of the Ferromagnetic and Field Re-entrant Superconductivity in URhGe

Fine pressure ($P$) and magnetic field ($H$) tuning on the ferromagnetic superconductor URhGe are reported in order to clarify the interplay between the mass enhancement, low field superconductivity (SC) and field reentrant superconductivity (RSC) by electrical resistivity measurements. With increasing $P$, the transition temperature and the upper critical field of the low field SC decrease slightly, while the RSC dome drastically shifts to higher fields and shrinks. The spin reorientation field $H_{\rm R}$ also increases. At a pressure $P\sim 1.8$ GPa, the RSC has collapsed while the low field SC persists and may disappear only above 4 GPa. Via careful $(P, H)$ studies of the inelastic $T^2$ resistivity term, it is demonstrated that this drastic change is directly related with the $P$ dependence of the effective mass which determines the critical field of the low field SC and RSC on the basis of triplet SC without Pauli limiting field.

Field Reentrance of the Hidden Order State of URu2Si2 under Pressure

Combination of neutron scattering and thermal expansion measurements under pressure shows that the so-called hidden order phase of URu2Si2 reenters in magnetic field when antiferromagnetism (AF) collapses at H_AF (T). Macroscopic pressure studies of the HO-AF boundaries were realized at different pressures via thermal expansion measurements under magnetic field using a strain gauge. Microscopic proof at a given pressure is the reappearance of the resonance at Q_0=(1,0,0) under field which is correlated with the collapse of the AF Bragg reflections at Q_0.

The quantum critical point in CeRhIn_5: a resistivity study

The pressure--temperature phase diagram of CeRhIn_5 has been studied under high magnetic field by resistivity measurements. Clear signatures of a quantum critical point has been found at a critical pressure of p_c = 2.5 GPa. The field induced magnetic state in the superconducting state is stable up to the highest field. At p_c the antiferromagnetic ground-state under high magnetic field collapses very rapidly. Clear signatures of p_c are the strong enhancement of the resistivity in the normal state and of the inelastic scattering term. No clear T2 temperature dependence could be found for pressures above T_c. From the analysis of the upper critical field within a strong coupling model we present the pressure dependence of the coupling parameter lambda and the gyromagnetic ratio g. No signatures of a spatially modulated order parameter could be evidenced. A detailed comparison with the magnetic field--temperature phase diagram of CeCoIn_5 is given. The comparison between CeRhIn_5 and CeCoIn_5 points out the importance to take into account the field dependence of the effective mass in the calculation of the superconducting upper critical field H_c2. It suggests also that when the magnetic critical field H_(0) becomes lower than H_c2 (0)$, the persistence of a superconducting pseudo-gap may stick the antiferromagnetism to H_c2 (0).

Field Re-entrant Superconductivity Induced by the Enhancement of Effective Mass in URhGe

High quality single crystals of a ferromagnetic superconductor URhGe were successfully grown. The electrical resistivity was measured for the field along b-axis in the orthorhombic crystal structure in order to study precisely its field re-entrant superconductivity which occurs in the vicinity of the field $H_{\rm R}$, where the easy magnetization switches from $c$ to b-axis. The field re-entrant superconductivity of URhGe is analyzed with special focus on its dependence with the value of residual resistivity $ρ_0$ and the coefficient $A$ of $T^2$ term of the resistivity. The experimental results are well explained by a crude model related with the field dependence of the effective mass $m^\ast$, where the corresponding critical temperature $T_{\mathrm{sc}}(m^\ast)$ and the upper critical field $H_{\rm c2}$ are strongly enhanced. Discussion is made on the interplay between magnetic and superconducting phase diagram as well as the link between $T_{\mathrm{sc}}$ and $A$ in other heavy fermion superconductors.

Pressure-temperature Phase Diagram of Polycrystalline UCoGe Studied by Resistivity Measurement

Recently, coexistence of ferromagnetism (T_Curie = 2.8K) and superconductivity (T_sc = 0.8K) has been reported in UCoGe, a compound close to a ferromagnetic instability at ambient pressure P. Here we present resistivity measurements under pressure on a UCoGe polycrystal. The phase diagram obtained from resistivity measurements on a polycrystalline sample is found to be qualitatively different to those of all other ferromagnetic superconductors. By applying high pressure, ferromagnetism is suppressed at a rate of 1.4 K/GPa. No indication of ferromagnetic order has been observed above P ~ 1GPa. The resistive superconducting transition is, however, quite stable in temperature and persists up to the highest measured pressure of about 2.4GPa. Superconductivity would therefore appear also in the paramagnetic phase. However, the appearance of superconductivity seems to change at a characteristic pressure P* ~ 0.8GPa. Close to a ferromagnetic instability, the homogeneity of the sample can influence strongly the electronic and magnetic properties and therefore bulk phase transitions may differ from the determination by resistivity measurements.

Direct observation of quasi-particle band in CeIrIn$_5$: Angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy study

We have performed a high-resolution angle resolved Ce 4$d-4f$ resonant photoemission experiment on the heavy fermion superconductor CeIrIn$_5$. We have observed a quasi-particle band which has an energy dispersion of $\sim 30$ meV in the Ce 4$f$ on-resonance spectra. The result suggests that although the 4$f$ spectra are dominated by the localized/correlated character, the small itinerant component is responsible for the superconductivity in this compound.
