Uniqueness and Significance of Weak Solution of Non-perturbative Renormalization Group Equation to Analyze Dynamical Chiral Symmetry Breaking

We propose quite a new method of analyzing the dynamical chiral symmetry breaking in gauge theories. Starting with the non-perturbative renormalization group equation for the Wilsonian fermion potential, we define the weak solution of it in order to mathematically authorize solutions with singularity. The weak solution is obtained uniquely and it successfully predicts the physically correct vacuum, chiral condensates, dynamical mass, through its auto-convexizing power for the effective potential. Thus it works perfectly even for the first order phase transition in the finite density QCD.

Solving the QCD non-perturbative flow equation as a partial differential equation and its application to the dynamical chiral symmetry breaking

Non-perturbative renormalization group approach to the dynamical chiral symmetry breaking is an effective method which can accommodate beyond the ladder (mean filed) approximation. The usual method relying on the field operator expansion suffers explosive behaviors of the 4-fermi coupling constant, which prevent us from evaluating the physical quantities in the broken phase. In order to overcome this difficulty, we solve the flow equation directly as a partial differential equation and calculate the dynamical mass and the chiral condensates. Also we formulate a beyond the ladder equation and it gives almost gauge independent results for the chiral condensates.

Cosmological Radiative Transfer Comparison Project II: The Radiation-Hydrodynamic Tests

The development of radiation hydrodynamical methods that are able to follow gas dynamics and radiative transfer self-consistently is key to the solution of many problems in numerical astrophysics. Such fluid flows are highly complex, rarely allowing even for approximate analytical solutions against which numerical codes can be tested. An alternative validation procedure is to compare different methods against each other on common problems, in order to assess the robustness of the results and establish a range of validity for the methods. Previously, we presented such a comparison for a set of pure radiative transfer tests (i.e. for fixed, non-evolving density fields). This is the second paper of the Cosmological Radiative Transfer (RT) Comparison Project, in which we compare 9 independent RT codes directly coupled to gasdynamics on 3 relatively simple astrophysical hydrodynamics problems: (5) the expansion of an H II region in a uniform medium; (6) an ionization front (I-front) in a 1/r^2 density profile with a flat core, and (7), the photoevaporation of a uniform dense clump. Results show a broad agreement between the different methods and no big failures, indicating that the participating codes have reached a certain level of maturity and reliability. However, many details still do differ, and virtually every code has showed some shortcomings and has disagreed, in one respect or another, with the majority of the results. This underscores the fact that no method is universal and all require careful testing of the particular features which are most relevant to the specific problem at hand.

Coupled dynamics of voltage and calcium in paced cardiac cells

We investigate numerically and analytically the coupled dynamics of transmembrane voltage and intracellular calcium cycling in paced cardiac cells using a detailed physiological model and its reduction to a three-dimensional discrete map. The results provide a theoretical framework to interpret various experimentally observed modes of instability ranging from electromechanically concordant and discordant alternans to quasiperiodic oscillations of voltage and calcium.
