Composite-Fermion Study of Cavity-Modified Fractional Quantum Hall Excitation Gaps

We investigate how cavity-mediated attractive electron-electron interactions modify the excitation gaps of fractional quantum Hall states within the composite-fermion framework. We compute both the neutral magnetoroton excitation spectrum and the charged excitation gap relevant to transport experiments for the Laughlin $ν=1/3$ and $ν=1/5$ states. We consider a spin-polarized lowest-Landau-level model in which the interaction is mediated by a cavity mode with a spatially uniform vacuum-field gradient and a finite interaction range controlled by a long-distance cutoff. Finite-size scaling reveals that the transport gap is consistently enhanced by the cavity-induced interaction, with the gap enhancement scaling quadratically with the electron number and with the fourth power of the vacuum-field gradient. By contrast, the magnetoroton spectrum exhibits a richer dependence on the interaction range. The high-$k$ magnetoroton gap is enhanced for all interaction ranges considered, consistent with its close connection to the charged excitation gap, even with the long-range character of the interaction.

Observation of Cavity-Mediated Nonlinear Landau Fan and Modified Landau Level Degeneracy in Graphene Quantum Transport

Recent studies on cavity-coupled two-dimensional electron gas demonstrate that vacuum-field engineering can tailor electronic transport properties of materials. By achieving ultra-strong coupling between a terahertz resonator and mesoscopic graphene, we demonstrate that cavity vacuum fields can alter the effective degeneracies of Landau levels, resulting in a nonlinear Landau fan diagram for massless Dirac fermions while preserving quantum-Hall quantization. Specifically, by leveraging graphene's gate-tunability, we observe that quantum-Hall features, minimum longitudinal and quantized Hall conductance for a given filling factor, occur at carrier densities reduced by more than 20 percent compared to systems without cavity. Theoretical analysis attributes this effect to the virtual cavity photon mediated transitions between the non-equidistant Landau levels in graphene, significantly reducing their effective degeneracy. This study paves the way for investigating cavity quantum electrodynamics in highly tunable, atomically thin two-dimensional crystals.

Cavity-modified quantum electron transport in multi-terminal devices and interferometers

We theoretically investigate transport affected by cavity-mediated electron hopping in multi-terminal quantum Hall bars, quantum point contacts, and Aharonov-Bohm interferometers. Beyond determining conductances and resistances, we analyze spatially resolved current distributions and local density of states. Our study reveals how cavity-mediated inter-edge scattering impacts quantum magnetotransport in finite-size systems and how the cavity-mediated hopping significantly alters electron quantum interference effects.

Enhanced fractional quantum Hall gaps in a two-dimensional electron gas coupled to a hovering split-ring resonator

The magnetotransport of a high-mobility two-dimensional electron gas coupled to a hovering split-ring resonator with controllable distance is studied in the quantum Hall regime. The measurements reveal an enhancement by more than a factor 2 of the quantum Hall energy gaps at the fractional filling factors 4/3, 5/3, and 7/5, alongside a concurrent reduction in exchange splitting at odd integer filling factors. Theoretically, we show the strength of both effects to be quantitatively compatible with the emergence of an effective electron-electron long-range attractive interaction mediated by the exchange of virtual cavity photons in the presence of significant spatial gradients of the cavity electric vacuum fields. These results unveil a compelling interplay between cavity quantum electrodynamics and electronic correlations in two-dimensional systems, with profound implications for the manipulation and control of quantum phases in 2D materials.
