Chiral Symmetry Breaking and Confinement from an Interacting Ensemble of Instanton-dyons in Two-flavor Massless QCD

In this work we present the results from numerical simulations of an interacting ensemble of instanton-dyons in the $SU(3)$ gauge group with $N_f=2$ flavors of massless quarks. Dynamical quarks are included via the effective interactions induced by the fermionic determinant evaluated in the subspace of topological zero modes. The eigenvalue spectrum of the Dirac operator is studied at different volumes to extract the chiral condensate and eigenvalue gap, with both observables providing consistent values of the chiral transition temperature $T_c$. We find that a sufficient density of dyons is responsible for generating the confining potential and breaking the chiral symmetry, both of which are compatible with second-order transitions.

Nucleon clustering at kinetic freezeout of heavy-ion collisions via path-integral Monte Carlo

Clustering of the four-nucleon system at kinetic freezeout conditions is studied using path-integral Monte Carlo techniques. This method seeks to improve upon previous calculations which relied on approximate semiclassical methods or few-body quantum mechanics. Estimates are given for the decay probabilities of the 4N system into various light nuclei decay channels and the strength of spatial correlations is characterized. Additionally, a simple model is presented to describe the impact of this clustering on nucleon multiplicity distributions. The effects of a possible modification of the inter-nucleon interaction due to the close critical line (and hypothetical QCD critical point) on the clustering are also studied.

Deconfinement Phase Transition in the $SU(3)$ Instanton-dyon Ensemble

Confinement remains one the most interesting and challenging nonperturbative phenomenon in non-Abelian gauge theories. Recent semiclassical (for SU(2)) and lattice (for QCD) studies have suggested that confinement arises from interactions of statistical ensembles of instanton-dyons with the Polyakov loop. In this work, we extend studies of semiclassical ensemble of dyons to the $SU(3)$ Yang-Mills theory. We find that such interactions do generate the expected first-order deconfinement phase transition. The properties of the ensemble, including correlations and topological susceptibility, are studied over a range of temperatures above and below $T_c$. Additionally, the dyon ensemble is studied in the Yang-Mills theory containing an extra trace-deformation term. It is shown that such a term can cause the theory to remain confined and even retain the same topological observables at high temperatures.

Many-body forces and nucleon clustering near the QCD critical point

It has been proposed that one can look for the QCD critical point (CP) by the Beam Energy Scan (BES) accurately monitoring event-by-event fluctuations. This experimental program is under way at the BNL RHIC collider. Separately, it has been studied how clustering of nucleons at freezeout affects proton multiplicity distribution and light nuclei production. It was found that even a minor increase of the range of nuclear forces dramatically increases clustering, while large correlation length $ξ$ near CP makes attraction due to binary forces unrealistically large. In this paper we show that repulsive many-body forces near CP should overcome the binary ones and effectively suppress clustering. We also discuss current experimental data and point out locations at which a certain drop in clustering may already be observed.
