Ruled zero mean curvature surfaces in the three-dimensional light cone

We obtain a complete classification of ruled zero mean curvature surfaces in the three-dimensional light cone. En route, we examine geodesics and screw motions in the space form, allowing us to discover helicoids. We also consider their relationship to catenoids using Weierstrass representations of zero mean curvature surfaces in the three-dimensional light cone.

Cylinder decompositions on geometric armadillo tails

We study a class of finite-area, infinite-type translation surfaces, and find an explicit cylinder decomposition on these surfaces which do not manifest on finite-type translation surfaces. Each cylinder decomposition contains a special curve which we show is an obstruction to the existence of certain affine diffeomorphisms.

On Alan Schoen's I-WP Minimal Surface

We discuss in detail Alan Schoen's I-WP surface, an embedded triply periodic minimal surface of genus 4 with cubical symmetries. We exhibit various geometric realizations of this surface with the same conformal structure and use them to prove that the associate family of the I-WP surface contains six surfaces congruent to I-WP at Bonnet angles that are multiples of $60^\circ$.

Spinor representation in isotropic 3-space via Laguerre geometry

We give a detailed description of the geometry of isotropic space, in parallel to those of Euclidean space within the realm of Laguerre geometry. After developing basic surface theory in isotropic space, we define spin transformations, directly leading to the spinor representation of conformal surfaces in isotropic space. As an application, we obtain the Weierstrass-type representation for zero mean curvature surfaces, and the Kenmotsu-type representation for constant mean curvature surfaces, allowing us to construct many explicit examples.

Infinite $\{3,7\}$-surface in $\mathbb{H}^3$

Objects with large symmetry groups have been an interest for many mathematicians. A classical question in geometry is whether a surface with certain geometric features, such as completeness, curvature, etc..., can embed in $\mathbb{R}^3.$ In a recent paper, Lee constructs an infinite $\{3,7\}$-surface in $\mathbb{R}^3$ by gluing together prisms and antiprisms, in an attempt to find a periodic surface in $\mathbb{R}^3$ that is cover of Klein's quartic. While Lee's construction shows that such construction self-intersects in $\mathbb{R}^3$, it does not prove nor disprove the possibility of an embedding. In this paper, we explore a possible embedding of the genus three Klein's quartic, or its cover, in hyperbolic space.

Kontsevich-Zorich monodromy groups of translation covers of some platonic solids

We compute the Zariski closure of the Kontsevich-Zorich monodromy groups arising from certain square tiled surfaces that are geometrically motivated. Specifically we consider three surfaces that emerge as translation covers of platonic solids and quotients of infinite polyhedra, and show that the Zariski closure of the monodromy group arising from each surface is equal to a power of $\rm{SL}(2, \mathbb{R})$. We prove our results by finding generators for the monodromy groups, using a theorem of Matheus-Yoccoz-Zmiaikou that provides constraints on the Zariski closure of the groups (to obtain an "upper bound"), and analyzing the dimension of the Lie algebra of the Zariski closure of the group (to obtain a "lower bound"). Moreover, combining our analysis with the Eskin-Kontsevich-Zorich formula, we also compute the Lyapunov spectrum of the Kontsevich-Zorich cocycle for said square-tiled surfaces.

An infinite $\{3,7\}$-surface

A classical question in geometry is whether surfaces with given geometric features can be realized as embedded surfaces in Euclidean space. In this paper, we construct an immersed, but not embedded, infinite $\{3,7\}$-surface in $\mathbb{R}^3$ that is a cover of Klein's quartic.

Translation covers of some triply periodic platonic surfaces

We study translation covers of several triply periodic polyhedral surfaces that are intrinsically Platonic. We describe their affine symmetry groups and compute the quadratic asymptotics for counting saddle connections and cylinders, including the count of cylinders weighted by area. The mathematical study of triply periodic surfaces was initiated by Novikov, motivated by the study of electron transport. The surfaces we consider are of particular interest as they admit several different explicit geometric and algebraic descriptions, as described, for example, in the second author's thesis.

Automorphisms of Abelian Varieties and Principal Polarizations

The Narasimhan-Nori conjecture asks for a closed formula for the number of non-isomorphic principal polarizations of any given abelian variety. In this paper, we introduce a new algorithm that gives a lower bound on the number of non-isomorphic principal polarizations on any given abelian variety. We show, for example, that the Jacobian of the genus four underlying curve of Schoen's I-WP minimal surface has at least 9 non-isomorphic principal polarizations. We also explore the Jacobians of Klein's quartic, Fermat's quartic, Bring's curve, and more.

Geometric Realizations of Cyclically Branched Coverings over Punctured Spheres

In classical differential geometry, a central question has been whether abstract surfaces with given geometric features can be realized as surfaces in Euclidean space. Inspired by the rich theory of embedded triply periodic minimal surfaces, we seek examples of triply periodic polyhedral surfaces that have an identifiable conformal structure. In particular, we are interested in explicit cone metrics on compact Riemann surfaces that have a realization as the quotient of a triply periodic polyhedral surface. This is important as Riemann surfaces where one has equivalent descriptions are rare. We construct periodic surfaces using graph theory as an attempt to make Schoen's heuristic concept of a dual graph rigorous. We then apply the theory of cyclically branched coverings to identify the conformal type of such surfaces.

On a triply periodic polyhedral surface whose vertices are Weierstrass points

In this paper, we will construct an example of a closed Riemann surface $X$ that can be realized as a quotient of a triply periodic polyhedral surface $\Pi \subset \mathbb{R}^3$ where the Weierstrass points of $X$ coincide with the vertices of $\Pi.$ First we construct $\Pi$ by attaching Platonic solids in a periodic manner and consider the surface of this solid. Due to periodicity we can find a compact quotient of this surface, which has genus $g = 3.$ We claim that the resulting surface is not hyperelliptic and also that it is regular. By regular, we mean that the automorphism group of $X$ is transitive on flags. The symmetries of $X$ allow us to construct hyperbolic structures and various translation structures on $X$ that are compatible with its conformal type. The translation structures are the geometric representations of the holomorphic 1-forms of $X,$ which allow us to identify the Weierstrass points.
