On a nonlocal superconductivity problem

This paper investigates degenerate nonlocal free boundary problems arising in the context of superconductivity, extending the nonlocal counterpart to the work of Caffarelli, Salazar, and Shahgholian \cite{CS02, CSS04} in the local setting. In these models, no partial differential equation governs the moving sets where the gradient vanishes, meaning that test functions are only required to have a nonzero gradient. Our main results provide interior gradient Hölder regularity estimates for viscosity solutions.

Geometric properties of free boundaries in degenerate quenching problems

We study minimizers of non-differentiable functionals modeled on the degenerate quenching problem. Our main result establishes the finiteness of the $(n-1)-$dimensional Hausdorff measure of the free boundary. The proof is based on optimal gradient decay estimates obtained from an intrinsic Harnack-type inequality, along with a detailed analysis in a flatness regime, where minimizers enjoy improved regularity. Our arguments provide an alternative proof of classical results of Phillips and, although developed in the degenerate setting, also offer insights relevant to the singular case.

Borderline regularity in singular free boundary problems

In this paper, we investigate the borderline regularity of local minimizers of energy functionals under minimal assumptions on the potential term $σ$. When $σ$ is merely bounded and measurable, we show that sign-changing minimizers are Log-Lipschitz continuous, which represents the optimal regularity in this general setting. In the one-phase case, however, we establish gradient bounds for minimizers along their free boundaries, revealing a structural gain in regularity. Most notably, we prove that if $σ$ is continuous, then minimizers are of class $C^1$ along the free boundary, thereby identifying a sharp threshold for differentiability in terms of the regularity of the potential.

Interacting free boundaries in obstacle problems

We study obstacle problems governed by two distinct types of diffusion operators involving interacting free boundaries. We obtain a somewhat surprising coupling property, leading to a comprehensive analysis of the free boundary. More precisely, we show that near regular points of a coordinate function, the free boundary is analytic, whereas singular points lie on a smooth manifold. Additionally, we prove that uncoupled free boundary points are singular, indicating that regular points lie exclusively on the coupled free boundary. Furthermore, optimal regularity, non-degeneracy, and lower dimensional Hausdorff measure estimates are obtained. Explicit examples illustrate the sharpness of assumptions.

Fully nonlinear free boundary problems: optimal boundary regularity beyond convexity

We study a general class of elliptic free boundary problems equipped with a Dirichlet boundary condition. Our primary result establishes an optimal $C^{1,1}$-regularity estimate for $L^p$-strong solutions at points where the free and fixed boundaries intersect. A key novelty is that no convexity or concavity assumptions are imposed on the fully nonlinear operator governing the system. Our analysis derives BMO estimates in a universal neighbourhood of the fixed boundary. It relies solely on a differentiability assumption. Once those estimates are available, applying by now standard methods yields the optimal regularity.

Fully nonlinear dead-core systems

We study fully nonlinear dead-core systems coupled with strong absorption terms. We discover a chain reaction, exploiting properties of an equation along the system and obtain higher sharp regularity across the free boundary. Additionally, we prove geometric measure estimates and obtain coincidence of the free boundaries. We also derive Liouville type theorems for entire solutions. These results are new even for linear systems.

Oscillatory free boundary problems in stochastic materials

We investigate a class of free boundary problems with oscillatory singularities within stochastic materials. Our main result yields sharp regularity estimates along the free boundary, provided the power of the singularity varies in a Dini-continuous fashion below a certain threshold. We also reveal an interesting repelling estimate preventing the free boundary from touching the region where the singularity power oscillates above the threshold.

On splitting complete manifolds via infinity harmonic functions

In this paper, we prove some splitting results for manifolds supporting a non-constant infinity harmonic function which has at most linear growth on one side. Manifolds with non-negative Ricci or sectional curvature are considered. In dimension 2, we extend Savin's theorem on Lipschitz infinity harmonic functions in the plane to every surface with non-negative sectional curvature.

On fractional quasilinear equations with elliptic degeneracy

In this work, we present a systematic approach to investigate the existence, multiplicity, and local gradient regularity of solutions for nonlocal quasilinear equations with local gradient degeneracy. Our method involves an interactive geometric argument that interplays with uniqueness property for the corresponding homogeneous problem, leading with gradient Hölder regularity estimates. This approach is intrinsically developed for nonlocal scenarios, where uniqueness holds for the local homogeneous problem. We illustrate our results by showing classes of exterior data that exhibit multiple solutions, while also highlighting relevant cases where uniqueness is confirmed.

Sharp regularity for a singular fully nonlinear parabolic free boundary problem

This paper establishes sharp local regularity estimates for viscosity solutions of fully nonlinear parabolic free boundary problems with singular absorption terms. The main difficulties are due to the blow-up of the source along the free boundary and the lack of a variational structure. The proof combines the power of the Ishii-Lions method with intrinsically parabolic oscillation estimates. The results are new, even for second-order linear operators in nondivergence form.

Sharp regularity for singular obstacle problems

We obtain sharp local $C^{1,α}$ regularity of solutions for singular obstacle problems, Euler-Lagrange equation of which is given by $$ Δ_p u=γ(u-φ)^{γ-1}\,\text{ in }\,\{u>φ\}, $$ for $0<γ<1$ and $p\ge2$. At the free boundary $\partial\{u>φ\}$, we prove optimal $C^{1,τ}$ regularity of solutions, with $τ$ given explicitly in terms of $p$, $γ$ and smoothness of $φ$, which is new even in the linear setting.

Infinity Laplacian equations with singular absorptions

In this work, we study regularity properties for nonvariational singular elliptic equations ruled by the infinity Laplacian. We obtain optimal $C^{1,α}$ regularity along the free boundary. We also show existence of solutions, nondegeneracy properties and fine geometric estimates for the free boundary.

An optimal Liouville theorem for the porous medium equation

Under a sharp asymptotic growth condition at infinity, we prove a Liouville type theorem for the inhomogeneous porous medium equation, provided it stays universally close to the heat equation. Additionally, for the homogeneous equation, we show that for the conclusion to hold, it is enough to assume the sharp asymptotic growth at infinity only in the space variable. The results are optimal, meaning that the growth condition at infinity cannot be weakened.

On a two-phase free boundary problem ruled by the infinity Laplacian

In this paper we consider a two-phase free boundary problem ruled by the infinity Laplacian. Our main result states that bounded viscosity solutions in $B_1$ are universally Lipschitz continuous in $B_{1/2}$, which is the optimal regularity for the problem. We make a new use of the Ishii-Lions' method, which works as a surrogate for the lack of a monotonicity formula and is bound to be applicable in related problems.

Sharp regularity for the inhomogeneous porous medium equation

We show that locally bounded solutions of the inhomogeneous porous medium equation $$u_{t} - {\rm div} \left( m |u|^{m-1} \nabla u \right) = f \in L^{q,r}, \quad m >1 ,$$ are locally Hölder continuous, with exponent $$γ=\min \left\{ \frac{α_{0}^-}{m}, \frac{[(2q - n)r -2q]}{q[(mr - (m-1)]} \right\},$$ where $α_{0}$ denotes the optimal Hölder exponent for solutions of the homogeneous case. The proof relies on an approximation lemma and geometric iteration in the appropriate intrinsic scaling.

Detecting the completeness of a Finsler manifold via potential theory for its infinity Laplacian

In this paper, we study some potential theoretic aspects of the eikonal and infinity Laplace operator on a Finsler manifold $M$. Our main result shows that the forward completeness of $M$ can be detected in terms of Liouville properties and maximum principles at infinity for subsolutions of suitable inequalities, including $Δ^N_\infty u \ge g(u)$. Also, an $\infty$-capacity criterion and a viscosity version of Ekeland principle are proved to be equivalent to the forward completeness of $M$. Part of the proof hinges on a new boundary-to-interior Lipschitz estimate for solutions of $Δ^N_\infty u = g(u)$ on relatively compact sets, that implies a uniform Lipschitz estimate for certain entire, bounded solutions without requiring the completeness of $M$.

Higher regularity estimates for the porous medium equation near the Heat equation

In this paper we investigate regularity aspects for solutions of the nonlinear parabolic equation $$ u_t= Δu^m, \quad m > 1 $$ usually called the porous medium equation. More precisely, we provide sharp regularity estimates for bounded nonnegative weak solutions along the free boundary $\partial\{u>0\}$, when the equation is universally close to the heat equation. As a consequence, local Lipschitz estimates are also established for this scenario.

A proof of the $C^{p^\prime}$-regularity conjecture in the plane

We establish a new oscillation estimate for solutions of nonlinear partial differential equations of elliptic, degenerate type. This new tool yields a precise control on the growth rate of solutions near their set of critical points, where ellipticity degenerates. As a consequence, we are able to prove the planar counterpart of the longstanding conjecture that solutions of the degenerate $p$-Poisson equation with a bounded source are locally of class $C^{p^\prime}=C^{1,\frac{1}{p-1}}$; this regularity is optimal.
