The integral Chow ring of $\mathscr{M}_{0}(\mathbb{P}^r, 2)$

We compute a presentation for the integral Chow rings of the moduli stacks of degree $2$ maps from smooth rational curves to projective space $\mathbb{P}^r$, as a quotient of a three-variable polynomial ring. The relations as $r$ varies have rich combinatorial structure: all non-trivial relations are encoded by two generating functions which are rational functions.

The integral Chow ring of $\mathcal{M}_{0}(\mathbb{P}^r, d)$, for $d$ odd

For any odd integer $d$, we give a presentation for the integral Chow ring of the stack $\Mcal_{0}(\Pro^r, d)$, as a quotient of the polynomial ring $\Z[c_1,c_2]$. We describe an efficient set of generators for the ideal of relations, and compute them in generating series form. The paper concludes with explicit computations of some examples for low values of $d$ and $r$, and a conjecture for a minimal set of generators.

Polynomials Whose Coefficients Coincide with Their Zeros

In this paper we consider monic polynomials such that their coefficients coincide with their zeros. These polynomials were first introduced by S. Ulam. We combine methods of algebraic geometry and dynamical systems to prove several results. We obtain estimates on the number of Ulam polynomials of degree $N$. We provide additional methods to obtain algebraic identities satisfied by the zeros of Ulam polynomials, beyond the straightforward comparison of their zeros and coefficients. To address the question about existence of orthogonal Ulam polynomial sequences, we show that the only Ulam polynomial eigenfunctions of hypergeometric type differential operators are the trivial Ulam polynomials $\{x^N\}_{N=0}^\infty$. We propose a family of solvable $N$-body problems such that their stable equilibria are the zeros of certain Ulam polynomials.

The Chow Ring of the Stack of Smooth Plane Cubics

We give an explicit presentation of the integral Chow ring of a stack of smooth plane cubics. We also determine some relations in the general case of hypersurfaces of any dimension and degree.

Arithmetic Sets in Groups

We define a notion of an arithmetic set in an arbitrary countable group and study properties of these sets in the cases of Abelian groups and non-abelian free groups.

Moduli stacks of curves with a fixed dual graph

We consider the stack of stable curves of genus g with a given dual graph and we give an explicit desingularization of its closure in the moduli stack of stable curves. We study in particular the one-dimensional substack of curves with at least 3g-4 nodes.

The Stack of Rational Nodal Curves

In this series of three papers we start to investigate the rational Chow ring of the stack consisting of nodal curves of genus 0, in particular we determine completely the rational Chow ring of the substack consisting of curves with at most 3 nodes. In this first paper we construct the stack of rational nodal curves and its stratification by nodes and show that the map from the universal curve to the stack is not representable in the category of schemes.
