AViS-Mamba: Adaptive Visual Steering of Audio State-Space Dynamics for Violence Detection

Automatic violence detection from video is challenging because violent interactions may be distant, occluded, or only partially visible. Audio can provide complementary evidence for violent events that are difficult to recognize from visual information alone. However, audio itself may be absent, dubbed, or dominated by environmental noise, making the central challenge not whether to incorporate audio but how to adapt reliance on it according to the visual scene. We introduce \emph{AViS-Mamba}, an audiovisual Mamba-based architecture in which the visual stream directly governs the behavior of the audio stream. At each layer of the audio encoder, a compact visual representation produces a modulation vector that conditions the encoder's internal temporal operators together with a routing gate that regulates the strength of this visual intervention. Rather than fusing or reweighting features after they have been extracted, visual context directly shapes the temporal dynamics of the audio encoder. We further propose Adaptive AV-InfoNCE, a contrastive objective that learns to balance the audio-to-video and video-to-audio alignment directions rather than weighting them uniformly. On the audio-valid NTU-CCTV and DVD benchmarks, AViS-Mamba establishes state-of-the-art results, attaining 88.59% and 75.74% accuracy. We demonstrate that adaptive visual conditioning consistently outperforms fixed routing and improves performance under degraded and missing-audio conditions. Layer-wise analysis further reveals that the model adapts the audio stream selectively across network depth rather than applying a single global routing policy.

FuseMamba-VD: Dual Branch VideoMamba with Gated Class Token Fusion for Violence Detection

The rapid proliferation of surveillance cameras has increased the demand for automated violence detection. While CNNs and Transformers have shown success in extracting spatio-temporal features, they struggle with long-term dependencies and computational efficiency. We propose FuseMamba-VD: Dual Branch VideoMamba with Gated Class Token Fusion (GCTF), an efficient architecture combining a dual-branch design and a state-space model (SSM) backbone where one branch captures spatial features, while the other focuses on temporal dynamics. The model performs continuous fusion via a gating mechanism from the spatial branch into the temporal branch to enhance detection of violent activities even in challenging surveillance scenarios. We also present a new benchmark by merging RWF-2000, RLVS, SURV and VioPeru datasets in video violence detection, ensuring strict separation between training and testing sets. Experimental results demonstrate that our model achieves state-of-the-art performance on this benchmark and also on DVD dataset which is a recently introduced dataset on video violence detection, offering an optimal balance between accuracy and computational efficiency, demonstrating the promise of SSMs for scalable, resource efficient video violence detection. The code and pre-trained models are available at https://github.com/damith92/FuseMamba-VD.

CUE-Net: Violence Detection Video Analytics with Spatial Cropping, Enhanced UniformerV2 and Modified Efficient Additive Attention

In this paper we introduce CUE-Net, a novel architecture designed for automated violence detection in video surveillance. As surveillance systems become more prevalent due to technological advances and decreasing costs, the challenge of efficiently monitoring vast amounts of video data has intensified. CUE-Net addresses this challenge by combining spatial Cropping with an enhanced version of the UniformerV2 architecture, integrating convolutional and self-attention mechanisms alongside a novel Modified Efficient Additive Attention mechanism (which reduces the quadratic time complexity of self-attention) to effectively and efficiently identify violent activities. This approach aims to overcome traditional challenges such as capturing distant or partially obscured subjects within video frames. By focusing on both local and global spatiotemporal features, CUE-Net achieves state-of-the-art performance on the RWF-2000 and RLVS datasets, surpassing existing methods.

Controlled Text Generation using T5 based Encoder-Decoder Soft Prompt Tuning and Analysis of the Utility of Generated Text in AI

Controlled text generation is a very important task in the arena of natural language processing due to its promising applications. In order to achieve this task we mainly introduce the novel soft prompt tuning method of using soft prompts at both encoder and decoder levels together in a T5 model and investigate the performance as the behaviour of an additional soft prompt related to the decoder of a T5 model in controlled text generation remained unexplored. Then we also investigate the feasibility of steering the output of this extended soft prompted T5 model at decoder level and finally analyse the utility of generated text to be used in AI related tasks such as training AI models with an interpretability analysis of the classifier trained with synthetic text, as there is a lack of proper analysis of methodologies in generating properly labelled data to be utilized in AI tasks. Through the performed in-depth intrinsic and extrinsic evaluations of this generation model along with the artificially generated data, we found that this model produced better results compared to the T5 model with a single soft prompt at encoder level and the sentiment classifier trained using this artificially generated data can produce comparable classification results to the results of a classifier trained with real labelled data and also the classifier decision is interpretable with respect to the input text content.
