Asymptotic Stability of the Cross Curvature Flow at a Hyperbolic Metric

We show that there exists a suitable neighborhood of a constant curvature hyperbolic metric such that, for all initial data in this neighborhood, the corresponding solution to a normalized cross curvature flow exists for all time and converges to a hyperbolic metric. We show that the same technique proves an analogous result for Ricci flow. Additionally, we show short time existence and uniqueness of cross curvature flow for a more general class of initial data than was previously known.

Estimating the trace-free Ricci tensor in Ricci flow

An important and natural question in the analysis of Ricci flow singularity formation in dimensions four and above is as follows: What are the weakest conditions that provide control of the norm of the Riemann curvature tensor? In this short note, we show that on a compact manifold, the trace-free Ricci tensor is controlled in a precise fashion by the other components of the irreducible decomposition of the curvature tensor, without any hypotheses on the initial data.

Linear stability of homogeneous Ricci solitons

As a step toward understanding the analytic behavior of Type-III Ricci flow singularities, i.e. immortal solutions that exhibit |Rm|<C/t curvature decay, we examine the linearization of an equivalent flow at fixed points discovered recently by Baird--Danielo and Lott: nongradient homogeneous expanding Ricci solitons on nilpotent or solvable Lie groups. For all explicitly known nonproduct examples, we demonstrate linear stability of the flow at these fixed points and prove that the linearizations generate strongly continuous semigroups.

Local monotonicity and mean value formulas for evolving Riemannian manifolds

We derive identities for general flows of Riemannian metrics that may be regarded as local mean-value, monotonicity, or Lyapunov formulae. These generalize previous work of the first author for mean curvature flow and other nonlinear diffusions. Our results apply in particular to Ricci flow, where they yield a local monotone quantity directly analogous to Perelman's reduced volume V and a local identity related to Perelman's average energy F.

Precise asymptotics of the Ricci flow neckpinch

The best known finite-time local Ricci flow singularity is the neckpinch, in which a proper subset of the manifold becomes geometrically close to a portion of a shrinking cylinder. In this paper, we prove precise asymptotics for rotationally symmetric Ricci flow neckpinches. We then compare these rigorous results with formal matched asymptotics for fully general neckpinch singularities.

New Li--Yau--Hamilton Inequalities for the Ricci Flow via the Space-time Approach

We generalize Hamilton's matrix Li-Yau-type Harnack estimate for the Ricci flow by considering the space of all LYH (Li-Yau-Hamilton) quadratics that arise as curvature tensors of space-time connections satisfying the Ricci flow with respect to the natural space-time degenerate metric. As a special case, we employ scaling arguments to derive a linear-type matrix LYH estimate. The new LYH quadratics obtained in this way are associated to the system of the Ricci flow coupled to a 1-form and a 2-form evolving by heat-type equations. In the case of a Kaehler solution, a special case of our linear-type trace LYH estimate is weaker than but qualitatively equivalent to Hamilton's trace estimate.
