Frobenius Categories over a Triangular Matrix Ring and Comma Categories

We introduce the dual notions of $\mathcal{E}(\mathcal{X},M,\mathcal{Y})$ and $\mathcal{M}(\mathcal{X},M,\mathcal{Y})$, and investigate when they have enough injective objects or projective objects, when they are resolving or co-resolving, and when they are Frobenius categories. In the case that they are Frobenius categories, we establish a recollement of their stable categories. Finally some applications to comma categories are given.

Algebraically rigid simplicial complexes and graphs

We call a simplicial complex algebraically rigid if its Stanley-Reisner ring admits no nontrivial infinitesimal deformations, and call it inseparable if does not allow any deformation to other simplicial complexes. Algebraically rigid simplicial complexes are inseparable. In this paper we study inseparability and rigidity of Stanley-Reisner rings, and apply the general theory to letterplace ideals as well as to edge ideals of graphs. Classes of algebraically rigid simplicial complexes and graphs are identified.

On reduction number of products of ideals

Let $R$ be a standard graded algebra over an infinite field $\mathbb{K}$ and $M$ a finitely generated $\ZZ$-graded $R$-module. Let $I_1,\ldots I_m$ be graded ideals of $R$. The functions $r(M/I_1^{a_1}\ldots I_m^{a_m}M)$ and $r(I_1^{a_1}\ldots I_m^{a_m}M)$ are investigated and their asymptotical behaviours are given. Here $r(\bullet)$ stands for the reduction number of a finitely graded module $\bullet$.

Geometric regularity of powers of two-dimensional squarefree monomial ideals

Let $I$ be a two-dimensional squarefree monomial ideal of a polynomial ring $S$. We evaluate the geometric regularity, $a_i$-invariants for $i\geq 1$ of the power $I^n$. It turns out they are all linear functions in $n$ from $n=2$. Moreover, it is proved $\mbox{g-reg}(S/I^n)=\reg(S/I^{(n)})$ for all $n\geq 1$.

The socle module of a monomial ideal

For any ideal $I$ in a Noetherian local ring or any graded ideal $I$ in a standard graded $K$-algebra over a field $K$, we introduce the socle module $\mathrm{Soc}(I)$, whose graded components give us the socle of the powers of $I$. It is observed that $\mathrm{Soc}(I)$ is a finitely generated module over the fiber cone of $I$. In the case that $S$ is the polynomial ring and all powers of $I\subseteq S$ have linear resolution, we define the module $\mathrm{Soc}^*(I)$ which is a module over the Rees ring of $I$. For the edge ideal of a graph and for classes of polymatroidal ideals we study the module structure of their socle modules.

Toric rings, inseparability and rigidity

This article provides the basic algebraic background on infinitesimal deformations and presents the proof of the well-known fact that the non-trivial infinitesimal deformations of a $K$-algebra $R$ are parameterized by the elements of cotangent module $T^1(R)$ of $R$. In this article we focus on deformations of toric rings, and give an explicit description of $T^1(R)$ in the case that $R$ is a toric ring. In particular, we are interested in unobstructed deformations which preserve the toric structure. Such deformations we call separations. Toric rings which do not admit any separation are called inseparable. We apply the theory to the edge ring of a finite graph. The coordinate ring of a convex polyomino may be viewed as the edge ring of a special class of bipartite graphs. It is shown that the coordinate ring of any convex polyomino is inseparable. We introduce the concept of semi-rigidity, and give a combinatorial description of the graphs whose edge ring is semi-rigid. The results are applied to show that for $m-k=k=3$, $G_{k,m-k}$ is not rigid while for $m-k\geq k\geq 4$, $G_{k,m-k}$ is rigid. Here $G_{k,m-k}$ is the complete bipartite graph $K_{m-k,k}$ with one edge removed.

On the asymptotic linearity of reduction number

Let $R$ be a standard graded Noetherian algebra over an infinite field $K$ and $M$ a finitely generated $\mathbb{Z}$-graded $R$-module. Then for any graded ideal $I\subseteq R_+$ of $R$, we show that there exist integers $e_1\geq e_2$ such that $r(I^nM)=ρ_I(M)n+e_1$ and $D(I^nM)=ρ_I(M)n+e_2$ for $n\gg0$. Here $r(M)$ and $D(M)$ denote the reduction number of $M$ and the maximal degree of minimal generators of $M$ respectively, and $ρ_I(M)$ is an integer determined by both $M$ and $I$. We introduce the notion of generalized regularity function $Γ$ for a standard graded algebra over a Noetherian ring and prove that $Γ(I^nM)$ is also a linear function in $n$ for $n\gg 0$.

Discrete Polymatroids satisfying a stronger symmetric exchange property

In this paper we introduce discrete polymatroids satisfying the one-sided strong exchange property and show that they are sortable (as a consequence their base rings are Koszul) and that they satisfy White's conjecture. Since any pruned lattice path polymatroid satisfies the one-sided strong exchange property, this result provides an alternative proof for one of the main theorems of J. Schweig in \cite{Sc}, where it is shown that every pruned lattice path polymatroid satisfies White's conjecture. In addition, for two classes of pruned lattice path polymatroidal ideals $I$ and their powers we determine their depth and their associated prime ideals, and furthermore determine the least power $k$ for which $\depth S/I^k$ and $\Ass(S/I^k)$ stabilize. It turns out that $\depth S/I^k$ stabilizes precisely when if $\Ass(S/I^k)$ stabilizes.

On zero divisors and prime elements of po-semirings

A semiring is an algebraic structure similar to a ring, but without the requirement that each element must have an additive inverse. A po-semiring is a semiring equipped with a compatible bounded partial order. In this paper, properties of zero divisors and prime elements of a po-semiring are studied. In particular, it is proved that under some mild assumption the set $Z(A)$ of nonzero zero divisors of $A$ is $A\setminus \{0,1\}$, each prime element of $A$ is a maximal element, and the zero divisor graph $\G(A)$ of $A$ is a finite graph if and only if $A$ is finite. For a po-semiring $A$ with $Z(A)=A\setminus \{0,1\}$, it is proved that $A$ has finitely many maximal elements if ACC holds either for elements of $A$ or for principal annihilating ideals of $A$. As applications of prime elements, it is shown that the structure of a po-semiring $A$ is completely determined by the structure of integral po-semirings if either $|Z(A)|=1$ or $|Z(A)|=2$ and $Z(A)^2\not=0$. Applications to the ideal structure of commutative rings are considered.

The structure of finite local principal ideal rings

A ring $R$ is called a PIR, if each ideal of $R$ is a principal ideal. An local ring $(R,\mf{m)}$ is a artinian PIR if and only if its maximal ideal $\mf{m}$ is principal and has finite nilpotency index. In this paper, we determine the structure of a finite local PIR.

On graphs related to co-maximal ideals of a commutative ring

This paper studies the co-maximal graph $\Om(R)$, the induced subgraph $\G(R)$ of $\Om(R)$ whose vertex set is $R\setminus (U(R)\cup J(R))$ and a retract $\G_r(R)$ of $\G(R)$, where $R$ is a commutative ring. We show that the core of $\G(R)$ is a union of triangles and rectangles, while a vertex in $\G(R)$ is either an end vertex or a vertex in the core. For a non-local ring $R$, we prove that both the chromatic number and clique number of $\G(R)$ are identical with the number of maximal ideals of $R$. A graph $\G_r(R)$ is also introduced on the vertex set $\{Rx|\,x\in R\setminus (U(R)\cup J(R))\}$, and graph properties of $\G_r(R)$ are studied.

Sub-semigroups determined by the zero-divisor graph

In this paper we study sub-semigroups of a zero-divisor semigroup $S$ determined by properties of the zero-divisor graph $Γ(S)$. We use these sub-semigroups to study the correspondence between zero- divisor semigroups and zero-divisor graphs. We study properties of sub- semigroups of Boolean semigroups via the zero-divisor graph. As an application, we provide a characterization of the graphs which are zero- divisor graphs of Boolean rings.
