SIMD-PAC-DB: Pretty Performant PAC Privacy

This work presents a highly optimized implementation of PAC-DB, a recent and promising database privacy model. We prove that our SIMD-PAC-DB can compute the same privatized answer with just a single query, instead of the 128 stochastic executions against different 50% database sub-samples needed by the original PAC-DB. Our key insight is that every bit of a hashed primary key can be seen to represent membership of such a sub-sample. We present new algorithms for approximate computation of stochastic aggregates based on these hashes, which, thanks to their SIMD-friendliness, run up to 40x faster than scalar equivalents. We release an open-source DuckDB community extension which includes a rewriter that PAC-privatizes arbitrary SQL queries. Our experiments on TPC-H, Clickbench, and SQLStorm evaluate thousands of queries in terms of performance and utility, significantly advancing the ease of use and functionality of privacy-aware data systems in practice.

Nonlinear tails of massive scalar fields around a black hole

Nonlinear effects play a fundamental role in the late-time ringdown of black holes, with direct implications for gravitational-wave observations. For massive fields, these dynamics become richer, yet their nonlinear signatures remain poorly understood. Here, we systematically study nonlinear tails of massive scalar perturbations, from a toy model with ingoing and outgoing sources to a self-interacting scalar model, revealing nonlinear tails and contrasting the results with their linear counterparts. We find that the nonlinear tails of massive scalar fields, opposite to massless ones, decay as the same rate as linear tails in the intermediate time, independent of source parameters or initial conditions. Nevertheless, quadratic quasinormal modes could serve as a probe to the nonlinear effects of massive fields.

A flexible film thermocouple temperature sensor

This article introduces a thin-film thermocouple temperature sensor with symmetrical electrode structure. It uses PI film as a flexible substrate. Cu film and CuNi film made by MEMS manufacturing process as positive and negative electrodes. The device itself has the advantages of miniature, bendable and fast response speed. To reduce the film resistance value. Conducting metal film thickness and sputtering substrate temperature optimization experiments. The critical dimensions of Cu/CuNi film are 650nm and 400nm. The best sputtering substrate temperature for Cu/CuNi films is 100 degrees Celsius and 150 degrees Celsius. Testing the adhesion of thin film thermocouples using the peel-off method. The test result is 9.4N. Finally, the film thermocouple temperature sensor is subjected to a temperature static calibration experiment. The result shows that the actual potential difference error is within 1 degrees Celsius. It belongs to the second class standard in the formulation of thermocouple standards in my country. Through curve fitting, the corresponding relationship between temperature and potential difference is more accurate.

A capacitive flexible tactile sensor

In this paper, a capacitive flexible tactile sensor was designed to measure the pressure of objects based on MEMS technology. This sensor is a structure of a 4x4 array, with metal Ag as the capacitive electrode, which forms the tactile sensing unit of the sensor. The structure of capacitive flexible tactile sensor was designed and an experimental platform was established to test the performance. The tests show that when the thickness of the intermediate layer is 2 mm and the density is medium, the sensor's sensitivity is the best while the time of both the response and the rebound is fast.

Forward Private Searchable Symmetric Encryption with Optimized I/O Efficiency

Recently, several practical attacks raised serious concerns over the security of searchable encryption. The attacks have brought emphasis on forward privacy, which is the key concept behind solutions to the adaptive leakage-exploiting attacks, and will very likely to become mandatory in the design of new searchable encryption schemes. For a long time, forward privacy implies inefficiency and thus most existing searchable encryption schemes do not support it. Very recently, Bost (CCS 2016) showed that forward privacy can be obtained without inducing a large communication overhead. However, Bost's scheme is constructed with a relatively inefficient public key cryptographic primitive, and has a poor I/O performance. Both of the deficiencies significantly hinder the practical efficiency of the scheme, and prevent it from scaling to large data settings. To address the problems, we first present FAST, which achieves forward privacy and the same communication efficiency as Bost's scheme, but uses only symmetric cryptographic primitives. We then present FASTIO, which retains all good properties of FAST, and further improves I/O efficiency. We implemented the two schemes and compared their performance with Bost's scheme. The experiment results show that both our schemes are highly efficient, and FASTIO achieves a much better scalability due to its optimized I/O.

Copper Replaces Tin: A Copper based Gelling Catalyst for Poly-Urethane from Discarded Motherboard

A discarded motherboard based eco-friendly copper catalyst has been programmed to replace the industrially used tin based catalyst DBTDL. The catalyst has been characterized by UV-Vis spectroscopy, FT-IR and TEM. Using the catalyst reaction conditions is optimized and under the optimized condition, both polyurethane and polyurethane foam are prepared, thus proving the generality of the catalyst to be used in industries. A possible mechanism has also been proposed.
