Dynamical ordering in the c-axis in 3D driven vortex lattices

We present molecular dynamics simulations of driven vortices in layered superconductors in the presence of an external homogeneous force and point disorder. We use a model introduced by J.R.Clem for describing 3D vortex lines as stacks of 2D pancake vortices where only magnetic interactions are considered and the Josephson interlayer coupling is neglected. We numerically evaluate the long-range magnetic interaction between pancake vortices exactly. We analyze the vortex correlation along the field direction on (c-axis). We find that above the critical current, in the ``plastic flow'' regime, pancakes are completely uncorrelated in the c-direction. When increasing the current, there is an onset of correlation along the c-axis at the transition from plastic flow to a moving smectic phase. This transition coincides with the peak in the differential resistance.

Critical Current Enhancement due to an Electric Field in a Granular d-Wave Superconductor

We study the effects of an electric-field in the transport properties of bulk granular superconductors with different kinds of disorder. We find that for a d-wave granular superconductor with random $π$-junctions the critical current always increases after applying a strong electric field, regardless of the polarity of the field. This result plus a change in the voltage as a function of the electric field are in good agreement with experimental results in ceramic high T_c superconductors.

Hall noise and transverse freezing in driven vortex lattices

We study driven vortices lattices in superconducting thin films. Above the critical force $F_c$ we find two dynamical phase transitions at $F_p$ and $F_t$, which could be observed in simultaneous noise measurements of the longitudinal and the Hall voltage. At $F_p$ there is a transition from plastic flow to smectic flow where the voltage noise is isotropic (Hall noise = longitudinal noise) and there is a peak in the differential resistance. At $F_t$ there is a sharp transition to a frozen transverse solid where the Hall noise falls down abruptly and vortex motion is localized in the transverse direction.

Transverse depinning and melting of a moving vortex lattice in driven periodic Josephson junction arrays

We study the effect of thermal fluctuations in a vortex lattice driven in the periodic pinning of a Josephson junction array. The phase diagram current ($I$) vs. temperature ($T$) is studied. Above the critical current $I_c(T)$ we find a moving vortex lattice (MVL) with anisotropic Bragg peaks. For large currents $I\gg I_c(T)$, there is a melting transition of the MVL at $T_M(I)$. When applying a small transverse current to the MVL, there is no dissipation at low $T$. We find an onset of transverse vortex motion at a transverse depinning temperature $T_{tr}(I)<T_M(I)$.

Dynamic transition in vortex flow in strongly disordered Josephson junction arrays and superconducting thin films

We study the dynamics of vortices in strongly disordered $d=2$ Josephson junction arrays and superconducting films driven by a current. We find a dynamic phase transition in vortex flow at a current $I_p>I_c$. Below $I_p$ there is plastic flow characterized by an average-velocity correlation length scale $ξ_v$ in the direction of motion, which diverges when approaching $I_p$. Above $I_p$ we find a moving vortex phase with homogeneous flow and short range smectic order. A finite size analysis shows that this phase becomes asymptotically a liquid for large length scales.

Current-voltage characteristics of diluted Josephson-junction arrays: scaling behavior at current and percolation threshold

Dynamical simulations and scaling arguments are used to study the current-voltage (IV) characteristics of a two-dimensional model of resistively shunted Josephson-junction arrays in presence of percolative disorder, at zero external field. Two different limits of the Josephson-coupling concentration $p$ are considered, where $p_c$ is the percolation threshold. For $p$ $>$ $p_c$ and zero temperature, the IV curves show power-law behavior above a disorder dependent critical current. The power-law behavior and critical exponents are consistent with a simple scaling analysis. At $p_c$ and finite temperature $T$, the results show the scaling behavior of a T=0 superconducting transition. The resistance is linear but vanishes for decreasing $T$ with an apparent exponential behavior. Crossover to non-linearity appears at currents proportional to $% T^{1+ν_T}$, with a thermal-correlation length exponent $ν_T$ consistent with the corresponding value for the diluted XY model at $p_c$.

First-Order Melting of a Moving Vortex Lattice: Effects of Disorder

We study the melting of a moving vortex lattice through numerical simulations with the current driven 3D XY model with disorder. We find that there is a first-order phase transition even for large disorder when the corresponding equilibrium transition is continuous. The low temperature phase is an anisotropic moving glass.

Vortex dynamics in disordered Josephson junction arrays: from plastic flow to flux flow

We study the dynamics of Josephson junction arrays with positional disorder and driven by an external current. We consider weak magnetic fields, corresponding to a frustration $f=n+1/25$ with $n$ integer. We find that above the critical current $i_c$ there is a plastic flow of vortices, where most of the vortices are pinned and only a few vortices flow through channels. This dynamical regime is characterized by strong fluctuations of the total vorticity. The number of the flow channels grow with increasing bias current. At larger currents there is a dynamical regime characterized by the homogeneous motion of all the vortices, i.e. a flux flow regime. We find a dynamical phase transition between the plastic flow and the flux flow regimes when analyzing voltage-voltage correlation functions.
