Torus Berry Data Determine All-Genus Abelian Topological Orders

We show that for Abelian Chern-Simons topological orders, torus Berry matrices determine the all-genus extended TQFT. We identify the topological part of the projective Berry holonomy under metric deformations with the mapping-class-group representation of the Abelian Chern-Simons TQFT and prove that the normalized torus data reconstruct its finite quadratic module $(G,q)$. Recent work showed that $(G,q)$ classifies the extended theory up to symmetric monoidal natural isomorphism, then genus-one data determine the all-genus theory without choosing a $K$-matrix presentation. We also prove that, for normalized character row errors $\delta<21.96$%, nearest-row decoding recovers the Abelian fusion algebra independently of the number of anyons. The result applies to Abelian fractional quantum Hall and spin-liquid phases described by even-lattice Chern-Simons theories.

Classification of Extended Abelian Chern-Simons Theories

We classify extended Abelian Chern-Simons theories with gauge group $U(1)^n$ as extended $(2+1)$-dimensional topological quantum field theories. For an even integral nondegenerate lattice $(\Lambda,K)$, let $(G_K,q_K)$ denote its discriminant quadratic module. We prove that the associated theory is determined, up to symmetric monoidal natural isomorphism, by this finite quadratic module, and that every finite quadratic module is realized as the discriminant quadratic module of an even integral nondegenerate lattice. It follows that finite quadratic modules classify extended Abelian Chern-Simons theories, pointed Abelian Reshetikhin-Turaev TQFTs, and pointed modular tensor categories.

Equivalence of toral Chern-Simons and Reshetikhin-Turaev theories

We prove a natural isomorphism between toral Chern-Simons theory with gauge group $\mathbb T=\mathfrak t/\Lambda\cong U(1)^n$ and the Reshetikhin-Turaev theory associated with the finite quadratic module determined by an even, integral, nondegenerate symmetric bilinear form $K:\Lambda\times\Lambda\to\mathbb Z.$ More precisely, let $G_K=\Lambda^*/K\Lambda$ be the discriminant group of $K$, equipped with its induced quadratic form $q_K$, and let $C(G_K,q_K)$ be the corresponding pointed modular category. Using the geometric quantization formulation of toral Chern-Simons theory, we show that the resulting TQFT is naturally isomorphic to the Reshetikhin--Turaev TQFT determined by $C(G_K,q_K)$. The equivalence is established at the level of closed 3-manifold invariants, bordism operators for manifolds with boundary, and the extended $(2+1)$-dimensional structure, yielding a natural isomorphism of extended TQFTs.

A Rigorous Functional-Integral Construction of Toral Chern-Simons Theory

We construct the functional integral of Abelian Chern-Simons theory with toral gauge group $\mathbb T=\mathfrak t/\Lambda \cong U(1)^n$ at level $K$, where $K:\Lambda\times\Lambda\to\mathbb Z$ is an even, integral, nondegenerate symmetric bilinear form, by exact zeta-regularized Gaussian evaluation of the formal quotient integral over connections modulo gauge. For closed $3$-manifolds, this yields a topological invariant; for manifolds with boundary, the relative functional integral produces the canonical boundary state. The resulting theory satisfies the required axioms of a $(2+1)$-dimensional TQFT.

Toral Chern-Simons TQFT via Geometric Quantization in Real Polarization

We construct toral Chern-Simons theory with gauge group $\mathbb T=\mathfrak t/\Lambda\cong U(1)^n$ from an even, integral, nondegenerate symmetric bilinear form $K:\Lambda\times\Lambda\to\mathbb Z$ by geometric quantization via real polarization. We obtain a unitary extended $(2+1)$-dimensional TQFT by constructing the boundary state spaces and canonical operators and proving that they satisfy the cylinder and gluing axioms. The finite discriminant group $G_K=\Lambda^*/K\Lambda$ arises naturally in the theory and controls the genus-$g$ state spaces. At genus one, the theory recovers the finite quadratic data underlying bosonic Abelian topological order.

Equivalence of Extended $U(1)$ Chern-Simons and Reshetikhin-Turaev TQFTs

We establish the equivalence between $U(1)$ Chern-Simons and Reshetikhin-Turaev TQFTs associated with finite quadratic modules. For gauge group $U(1)$ and even level $k$, we prove that the corresponding Chern-Simons TQFT is naturally isomorphic to the Reshetikhin-Turaev TQFT determined by the pointed modular category $C(\mathbb Z_k,q_k)$. The equivalence holds both for closed $3$-manifolds and for bordisms with boundary, so that the two constructions define naturally isomorphic extended $(2+1)$-dimensional TQFTs. In particular, the finite quadratic module $(\mathbb Z_k,q_k)$ completely determines the $U(1)$ Chern-Simons theory.

Complete theory of radiative corrections to $K_{\ell 3}$ decays and the $V_{us}$ update

We fill up the missing piece in our own re-analysis of the long-distance electromagnetic radiative corrections to semileptonic kaon decays by performing a rigorous study in the $K\rightarrowπμ^+ν_μ(γ)$ channels. With appropriate experimental and lattice inputs, we achieve a precision level of $10^{-4}$ in these channels. This is comparable to our previous analysis in the $K\rightarrowπe^+ν_e(γ)$ channels. With this new result, we present an updated global analysis to extract the Standard Model parameter $|V_{us}|$ from semileptonic kaon decays. We obtain $|V_{us}|=0.22308(55)$ and $0.22356(73)$, using the lattice average of the $K^0\rightarrowπ^-$ transition form factor at $N_f=2+1+1$ and $N_f=2+1$, respectively.

Partially massless theory in three dimensions and self-dual massive gravity

Partially massless theory in three dimensions is revisited and its relationship with the self-dual massive gravity is considered. The only mode of the partially massless theory is shown explicitly through an action for a scalar field on (A)dS background. This fact can be generalized to higher dimensions. This degree of freedom is altered when a triadic Chern-Simons is introduced, giving rise to the self-dual massive gravity on (A)dS background. We present another physical system with partially massless symmetry and its connection with topologically massive gravity is discussed.

Update on $|V_{us}|$ and $|V_{us}/V_{ud}|$ from semileptonic kaon and pion decays

We discuss the recent progress in the study of semileptonic kaon and pion decays, including new experimental results, improved electroweak radiative corrections, form factor calculations and isospin-breaking effects. As a result, we obtain $|V_{us}|=0.22309(40)(39)(3)$ from kaon semileptonic decays and $|V_{us}/V_{ud}|=0.22908(66)(41)(40)(2)(1)$ from the ratio between the kaon and pion semileptonic decay rates. We report an apparent violation of the top-row Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix unitarity at a $3.2\sim 5.6σ$ level, and a discrepancy at a $2.2σ$ level between the value of $|V_{us}/V_{ud}|$ determined from the vector and axial charged weak interactions. Prospects for future improvements in those comparative precision tests involving $|V_{ud}|$, $|V_{us}|$ and their implications for physics beyond the Standard Model are described.

Improved $K_{e3}$ radiative corrections sharpen the $K_{μ2}$--$K_{l3}$ discrepancy

The measurements of $V_{us}$ in leptonic $(K_{μ2})$ and semileptonic $(K_{l3})$ kaon decays exhibit a $3σ$ disagreement, which could originate either from physics beyond the Standard Model or some large unidentified Standard Model systematic effects. Clarifying this issue requires a careful examination of all existing Standard Model inputs. Making use of a newly-proposed computational framework and the most recent lattice QCD results, we perform a comprehensive re-analysis of the electroweak radiative corrections to the $K_{e3}$ decay rates that achieves an unprecedented level of precision of $10^{-4}$, which improves the current best results by almost an order of magnitude. No large systematic effects are found, which suggests that the electroweak radiative corrections should be removed from the ``list of culprits'' responsible for the $K_{μ2}$--$K_{l3}$ discrepancy.

Are the notions of past, present and future compatible with the General Theory of Relativity?

The notions of time and causality are revisited, as well as the A- and B-theory of time, in order to determine which theory of time is most compatible with relativistic spacetimes. By considering orientable spacetimes and defining a time-orientation, we formalize the concepts of a time-series in relativistic spacetimes; A-theory and B-theory are given mathematical descriptions within the formalism of General Relativity. As a result, in time-orientable spacetimes, the notions of events being in the future and in the past, which are notions of A-theory, are found to be more fundamental than the notions of events being earlier than or later than other events, which are notions of B-theory. Furthermore, we find that B-theory notions are incompatible with some structures encountered in globally hyperbolic spacetimes, namely past and future inextendible curves. Hence, GR is favorable to A-theory and the notions of past, present and future.

High-precision determination of the $K_{e3}$ radiative corrections

We report a high-precision calculation of the Standard Model electroweak radiative corrections in the $K\to πe^+ν(γ)$ decay as a part of the combined theory effort to understand the existing anomaly in the determinations of $V_{us}$. Our new analysis features a chiral resummation of the large infrared-singular terms in the radiative corrections and a well-under-control strong interaction uncertainty based on the most recent lattice QCD inputs. While being consistent with the current state-of-the-art results obtained from chiral perturbation theory, we reduce the existing theory uncertainty from $10^{-3}$ to $10^{-4}$. Our result suggests that the Standard Model electroweak effects cannot account for the $V_{us}$ anomaly.

A New Theory Framework for the Electroweak Radiative Corrections in $K_{l3}$ Decays

We propose a new theory framework to study the electroweak radiative corrections in $K_{l3}$ decays by combining the classic current algebra approach with the modern effective field theory. Under this framework, the most important $\mathcal{O}(G_Fα)$ radiative corrections are described by a single tensor $T^{μν}$ involving the time-ordered product between the charged weak current and the electromagnetic current, and all remaining pieces are calculable order-by-order in Chiral Perturbation Theory. We further point out a special advantage in the $K_{l3}^{0}$ channel that it suffers the least impact from the poorly-constrained low-energy constants. This finding may serve as a basis for a more precise extraction of the matrix element $V_{us}$ in the future.
