Arithmetic geometry of quantum connections on Calabi-Yau $3$-folds

Fix a prime $p > 3$. Working over $\mathbb{Z}_p$, we show that the quantum connection of any closed Calabi-Yau threefold gives rise to a Fontaine-Laffaile module when restricted to the even degree and torsion-free part of $p$-adic quantum cohomology, whose associated Frobenius endomorphism has leading order term prescribed by the $p$-adic Gamma class. After reducing mod $p$, the divided Frobenius endomorphism defines an analogue of the inverse Cartier operator on mod $p$ quantum cohomology. We establish an $A$-model analogue of a classical result due to Katz: the conjugation of the $p$-curvature of the mod $p$ quantum connection by the inverse Cartier operator is equal to the Frobenius pullback of the quantum product, the $A$-model counterpart of the Kodaira-Spencer class. Moreover, we identify the quantum Steenrod operation with the $p$-curvature of the mod $p$ quantum connection in this setting for any prime $p$. We propose several conjectures concerning how these arithmetic structures may extend to quantum connections on more general semi-positive symplectic manifolds.

P-adic Gamma classes and overconvergent Frobenius structures for quantum connections

Consider the small quantum connection on a monotone symplectic manifold, with p-adic coefficients. We conjecture that this always admits an overconvergent Frobenius structure, whose constant term is given by a characteristic class associated to Morita's p-adic Gamma function. We prove this conjecture for toric Fano varieties and Grassmannians, and also supply additional experimental evidence.

Integral Kirwan Surjectivity

We refine Kirwan's surjectivity and formality theorems for a Hamiltonian G-action on a compact symplectic manifold M. For a regular value of the moment map, we show that the Kirwan map is surjective and additively split after inverting the orders of stabilizers in the reduction. In particular, for a free quotient, it is surjective integrally. We generalize this to a splitting of MU-module spectra. We also give a stable version of Kirwan's equivariant formality theorem. The novel idea is to exploit the Atiyah-Bott argument in Morava K-theory, then return to bordism and cohomology.

Homological mirror symmetry for Batyrev mirror pairs

We prove Kontsevich's homological mirror symmetry conjecture for a large class of mirror pairs of Calabi--Yau hypersurfaces in toric varieties. These mirror pairs were constructed by Batyrev from dual reflexive polytopes. The theorem holds in characteristic zero and in all but finitely many positive characteristics.

Symplectic cohomology relative to a smooth anticanonical divisor

For a monotone symplectic manifold and a smooth anticanonical divisor, there is a formal deformation of the symplectic cohomology of the divisor complement, defined by allowing Floer cylinders to intersect the divisor. We compute this deformed symplectic cohomology, in terms of the ordinary cohomology of the manifold and divisor; and also describe some additional structures that it carries.

Cohomological splitting over rationally connected bases

We prove a cohomological splitting result for Hamiltonian fibrations over enumeratively rationally connected symplectic manifolds As a key application, we prove that the cohomology of a smooth, projective family over a smooth (stably) rational projective variety splits additively over any field. The main ingredients in our arguments include the theory of Fukaya-Ono-Parker (FOP) perturbations developed by the first and third author, which allows one to define integer-valued Gromov-Witten type invariants, and variants of Abouzaid-McLean-Smith's global Kuranishi charts tailored to concrete geometric problems.

Integrality of mirror maps and arithmetic homological mirror symmetry for Greene--Plesser mirrors

We prove the `integrality of Taylor coefficients of mirror maps' conjecture for Greene--Plesser mirror pairs as a natural byproduct of an arithmetic refinement of homological mirror symmetry. We also prove homological mirror symmetry for Greene--Plesser mirror pairs in all characteristics such that the B-side family has good reduction, generalizing work of the fifth author and Smith over the complex numbers. A key technical ingredient is a new versality argument which allows us to work throughout over a Novikov-type ring with integer coefficients.

Quantization commutes with reduction again: the quantum GIT conjecture I

For a compact monotone symplectic manifold $X$ with Hamiltonian action of a compact Lie group $G$ and smooth symplectic reduction, we relate its gauged $2$-dimensional $A$-model to the $A$-model of $X/\!/G$. This (long conjectured) result is parallel to the ($B$-model!) \emph{quantization commutes with reduction} theorem of Guillemin and Sternberg in quantum mechanics. Here, we spell out some of the precise statements, and outline the proof of equality for the spaces of states (quantum cohomology). We also indicate the way to some related results in the non-monotone case. Additional Floer theory details will be included in a follow-up paper.

Equivariant formality in complex-oriented theories

Let $G$ be a product of unitary groups and let $(M,ω)$ be a compact symplectic manifold with Hamiltonian $G$-action. We prove an equivariant formality result for any complex-oriented cohomology theory $\mathbb{E}^*$ (in particular, integral cohomology). This generalizes the celebrated result of Atiyah-Bott-Kirwan for rational cohomology from the 1980s. The proof does not use classical ideas but instead relies on a recent cohomological splitting result of Abouzaid-McLean-Smith for Hamiltonian fibrations over $\mathbb{CP}^1.$ Moreover, we establish analogues of the "localization" and "injectivity to fixed points" theorems for certain cohomology theories studied by Hopkins-Kuhn-Ravenel. As an application of these results, we establish a Goresky-Kottwitz-MacPherson theorem with Morava $K$-theory coefficients for Hamiltonian $T$-manifolds.

The quantum connection, Fourier-Laplace transform, and families of A-infinity-categories

Take a closed monotone symplectic manifold containing a smooth anticanonical divisor. The quantum connection on its cohomology has singularities at zero and infinity (in the quantum parameter). At zero it has a regular singular point, by definition. We show that the singularity at infinity is of unramified exponential type. The argument involves: realizing cohomology as a deformation of the symplectic cohomology of the divisor complement; the corresponding deformation of the wrapped Fukaya category; a new categorical interpretation of the Fourier-Laplace transform of D-modules; and the regularity theorem of Petrov-Vaintrob-Vologodsky in noncommutative geometry.

Coulomb branch algebras via symplectic cohomology

Let $(\bar{M}, \omega)$ be a compact symplectic manifold with convex boundary and $c_1(T\bar{M})=0$. Suppose that $(\bar{M}, \omega)$ is equipped with a convex Hamiltonian $G$-action for some connected, compact Lie group $G$. We construct an action of the pure Coulomb branch of $G$ on the $G$-equivariant symplectic cohomology of $\bar{M}.$ Building on work of Teleman, we use this construction to characterize the Coulomb branches of Braverman-Finkelberg-Nakajima in terms of equivariant symplectic cohomology.

A note on the existence of U-cyclic elements in periodic Floer homology

Edtmair-Hutchings have recently defined, using periodic Floer homology, a U-cycle property for Hamiltonian isotopy classes of area-preserving diffeomorphisms of closed surfaces. They show that every Hamiltonian isotopy class satisfying the U-cycle property satisfies the smooth closing lemma and also satisfies a kind of Weyl law involving the actions of certain periodic points; they show that every rational isotopy class on the two-torus satisfies the U-cycle property. It seems that in general, not much is known about the U-module structure on PFH. Here we consider a version of Seiberg-Witten-Floer cohomology which is known by the work of Lee-Taubes to be isomorphic, as a U-module, to the periodic Floer homology in sufficiently high degree. We show that the analogous U-cycle property holds for every rational Hamiltonian isotopy class on any closed surface and, more generally, for any non-torsion spin-c structure. On the other hand, we also show that a rational isotopy class may contain elements that are not U-cyclic. By the Lee-Taubes isomorphism, the same results hold for PFH. Our results are some of the first computations concerning the U-module structure on these theories.

Equivariant Hodge theory and noncommutative geometry

We develop a version of Hodge theory for a large class of smooth formally proper quotient stacks $X/G$ analogous to Hodge theory for smooth projective schemes. We show that the noncommutative Hodge-de Rham sequence for the category of equivariant coherent sheaves degenerates. This spectral sequence converges to the periodic cyclic homology, which we canonically identify with the topological equivariant K-theory of $X$ with respect to a maximal compact subgroup of $G$, equipping the latter with a canonical pure Hodge structure. We also establish Hodge-de Rham degeneration for categories of matrix factorizations for a large class of equivariant Landau-Ginzburg models.

Intrinsic mirror symmetry and categorical crepant resolutions

The main result of the present paper concerns finiteness properties of Floer theoretic invariants on affine log Calabi-Yau varieties $X$. Namely, we show that: (a) the degree zero symplectic cohomology $SH^0(X)$ is finitely generated and is a filtered deformation of a certain algebra defined combinatorially in terms of a compactifying divisor $\mathbf{D}.$ (b) For any Lagrangian branes $L_0, L_1$, the wrapped Floer groups $WF^*(L_0,L_1)$ are finitely generated modules over $SH^0(X).$ We then describe applications of this result to mirror symmetry, the first of which is an ``automatic generation" criterion for the wrapped Fukaya category $\mathcal{W}(X)$. We also show that, in the case where $X$ is maximally degenerate and admits a ``homological section", $\mathcal{W}(X)$ gives a categorical crepant resolution of the potentially singular variety $\operatorname{Spec}(SH^0(X))$. This provides a link between the intrinsic mirror symmetry program of Gross and Siebert and the categorical birational geometry program initiated by Bondal-Orlov and Kuznetsov.

A Log PSS morphism with applications to Lagrangian embeddings

Let $M$ be a smooth projective variety and $\mathbf{D}$ an ample normal crossings divisor. From topological data associated to the pair $(M, \mathbf{D})$, we construct, under assumptions on Gromov-Witten invariants, a series of distinguished classes in symplectic cohomology of the complement $X = M \backslash \mathbf{D}$. Under further "topological" assumptions on the pair, these classes can be organized into a Log(arithmic) PSS morphism, from a vector space which we term the logarithmic cohomology of $(M, \mathbf{D})$ to symplectic cohomology. Turning to applications, we show that these methods and some knowledge of Gromov-Witten invariants can be used to produce dilations and quasi-dilations (in the sense of Seidel-Solomon [SS]) in examples such as conic bundles. In turn, the existence of such elements imposes strong restrictions on exact Lagrangian embeddings, especially in dimension 3. For instance, we prove that any exact Lagrangian in a complex 3-dimensional conic bundle over $(\mathbb{C}^*)^2$ must be diffeomorphic to $T^3$ or a connect sum $\#^n S^1 \times S^2$.

Symplectic cohomology rings of affine varieties in the topological limit

We construct a multiplicative spectral sequence converging to the symplectic cohomology ring of any affine variety $X$, with first page built out of topological invariants associated to strata of any fixed normal crossings compactification $(M,\mathbf{D})$ of $X$. We exhibit a broad class of pairs $(M,\mathbf{D})$ (characterized by the absence of relative holomorphic spheres or vanishing of certain relative GW invariants) for which the spectral sequence degenerates, and a broad subclass of pairs (similarly characterized) for which the ring structure on symplectic cohomology can also be described topologically. Sample applications include: (a) a complete topological description of the symplectic cohomology ring of the complement, in any projective $M$, of the union of sufficiently many generic ample divisors whose homology classes span a rank one subspace, (b) complete additive and partial multiplicative computations of degree zero symplectic cohomology rings of many log Calabi-Yau varieties, and (c) a proof in many cases that symplectic cohomology is finitely generated as a ring. A key technical ingredient in our results is a logarithmic version of the PSS morphism, introduced in our earlier work [GP1].

Lagrangian sections on mirrors of toric Calabi-Yau 3-folds

We construct Lagrangian sections of a Lagrangian torus fibration on a 3-dimensional conic bundle, which are SYZ dual to holomorphic line bundles over the mirror toric Calabi-Yau 3-fold. We then demonstrate a ring isomorphism between the wrapped Floer cohomology of the zero-section and the regular functions on the mirror toric Calabi-Yau 3-fold. Furthermore, we show that in the case when the Calabi-Yau 3-fold is affine space, the zero section generates the wrapped Fukaya category of the mirror conic bundle. This allows us to complete the proof of one direction of homological mirror symmetry for toric Calabi-Yau orbifold quotients of the form $\mathbb{C}^3/\Check{G}$. We finish by describing some elementary applications of our computations to symplectic topology.
