Finite Element Solution of the Two-Dimensional Bates Model for Option Pricing Under Stochastic Volatility and Jumps

We propose a fourth--order compact finite--difference (HOC--FD) scheme for the transformed Bates partial integro--differential equation (PIDE). The method employs an implicit--explicit (IMEX) Crank--Nicolson framework for local terms and Simpson quadrature for the jump integral. Benchmarks against second--order finite differences (FD) and quadratic finite elements (FEM, p=2) confirm near--fourth--order spatial accuracy for HOC--FD, near--second--order for FEM, and second--order temporal convergence for all time integrators. Efficiency tests show that HOC--FD achieves similar accuracy at up to two orders of magnitude lower runtime than FEM, establishing it as a practical baseline for option pricing under stochastic volatility jump--diffusion models.

Efficiency and Convergence Insights in Large-Scale Optimization Using the Improved Inexact-Newton-Smart Algorithm and Interior-Point Framework

We present a head-to-head evaluation of the Improved Inexact--Newton--Smart (INS) algorithm against a primal--dual interior-point framework for large-scale nonlinear optimization. On extensive synthetic benchmarks, the interior-point method converges with roughly one third fewer iterations and about one half the computation time relative to INS, while attaining marginally higher accuracy and meeting all primary stopping conditions. By contrast, INS succeeds in fewer cases under default settings but benefits markedly from moderate regularization and step-length control; in tuned regimes its iteration count and runtime decrease substantially, narrowing yet not closing the gap. A sensitivity study indicates that interior-point performance remains stable across parameter changes, whereas INS is more affected by step length and regularization choice. Collectively, the evidence positions the interior-point method as a reliable baseline and INS as a configurable alternative when problem structure favors adaptive regularization.

Mean Curvature Flow of Closed Curves Evolving in Two Dimensional Manifolds

We investigate the motion of a family of closed curves evolving according to the geometric evolution law on a given two dimensional manifold which is embedded or immersed in the three-dimensional Euclidean space. We derive a system of nonlinear parabolic equations describing the motion of curves belonging to a given two-dimensional manifold. Using the abstract theory of analytic semiflows, we prove the local existence, uniqueness of H\"older smooth solutions to the governing system of nonlinear parabolic equations for the position vector parametrization of evolving curves. We apply the method of flowing finite volumes in combination with the methods of lines for numerical approximation of the governing equations. Qualitative analytical results are illustrated by various numerical experiments.

Evolution of multiple closed knotted curves in space

We investigate a system of geometric evolution equations describing a curvature and torsion driven motion of a family of 3D curves in the normal and binormal directions. We explore the direct Lagrangian approach for treating the geometric flow of such interacting curves. Using the abstract theory of nonlinear analytic semi-flows, we are able to prove local existence, uniqueness, and continuation of classical H\"older smooth solutions to the governing system of non-linear parabolic equations modelling $n$ evolving curves with mutual nonlocal interactions. We present several computational studies of the flow that combine the normal or binormal velocity and considering nonlocal interaction.

On diffusion and transport acting on parameterized moving closed curves in space

We investigate the motion of closed smooth curves that evolve in space $\mathbb{R}^3$. The governing evolutionary equation for the evolution of the curve is accompanied by a parabolic equation for the scalar quantity evaluated over the evolving curve. We apply the direct Lagrangian approach to describe the flow of 3D curves, resulting in a system of degenerate parabolic equations. We prove the local existence and uniqueness of classical H\"older smooth solutions to the governing system of nonlinear parabolic equations. A numerical discretization scheme is constructed using the method of flowing finite volumes. We present several numerical examples of the evolution of curves in 3D with a scalar quantity. We consider the flow of curves with zero torsion evolving in rotating and parallel planes. Next, we present examples of the evolution of curves with initially knotted and unknotted curves.

Qualitative, statistical and extreme properties of spectral indices of signable pseudo-invertible graphs

In this paper, we investigate the Moore-Penrose inversion of a simple connected graph. We analyze qualitative, statistical, and extreme properties of spectral indices of signable pseudo-invertible graphs. We introduce and analyze a wide class of signable pseudo-invertible simple connected graphs. It is a generalization of the classical concept of positively integrally invertible graphs due to Godsil. We present several constructions of signable pseudo-invertible graphs. We also discuss statistical properties of various spectral indices of the class of signable pseudo-invertible graphs.

Learning the solution operator of a nonlinear parabolic equation using physics informed deep operator network

This study focuses on addressing the challenges of solving analytically intractable differential equations that arise in scientific and engineering fields such as Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman. Traditional numerical methods and neural network approaches for solving such equations often require independent simulation or retraining when the underlying parameters change. To overcome this, this study employs a physics-informed DeepONet (PI-DeepONet) to approximate the solution operator of a nonlinear parabolic equation. PI-DeepONet integrates known physics into a deep neural network, which learns the solution of the PDE.

Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman Equation Arising from Optimal Portfolio Selection Problem

The Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equation arising from the optimal portfolio selection problem is studied by means of the maximal monotone operator method. The existence and uniqueness of a solution to the Cauchy problem for the nonlinear parabolic partial integral differential equation in an abstract setting are investigated by using the Banach fixed-point theorem, the Fourier transform, and the monotone operators technique.

Extreme and statistical properties of eigenvalue indices of simple connected graphs

We analyze graphs attaining the extreme values of various spectral indices in the class of all simple connected graphs, as well as in the class of graphs which are not complete multipartite graphs. We also present results on density of spectral gap indices and its nonpersistency with respect to small perturbations of the underlying graph. We show that a small change in the set set of edges may result in a significant change of the spectral index like, e.g., the spectral gap or spectral index. We also present a statistical and numerical analysis of spectral indices of graphs of the order $m\le 10$. We analyze the extreme values for spectral indices for graphs and their small perturbations. Finally, we present the statistical and extreme properties of graphs on $m\le 10$ vertices.

On the Moore-Penrose pseudo-inversion of block symmetric matrices and its application in the graph theory

The purpose of this paper is to analyze the Moore-Penrose pseudo-inversion of symmetric real matrices with application in the graph theory. We introduce a novel concept of positively and negatively pseudo-inverse matrices and graphs. We also give sufficient conditions on the elements of a block symmetric matrix yielding an explicit form of its Moore-Penrose pseudo-inversion. Using the explicit form of the pseudo-inverse matrix we can construct pseudo-inverse graphs for a class of graphs which are constructed from the original graph by adding pendent vertices or pendant paths.

Linear and Nonlinear Partial Integro-Differential Equations arising from Finance

The purpose of this review paper is to present our recent results on nonlinear and nonlocal mathematical models arising from modern financial mathematics. It is based on our four papers written jointly by J. Cruz, M. Grossinho, D. Sevcovic, and C. Udeani, as well as parts of PhD thesis by J. Cruz. We investigated linear and nonlinear partial integro-differential equations (PIDEs) arising from option pricing and portfolio selection problems and studied the systematic relationships between the PIDEs with option pricing theory and Black--Scholes models. First, we relax the liquid and complete market assumptions and extend the models that study the market's illiquidity to the case where the underlying asset price follows a L\'evy stochastic process with jumps. Then, we establish the corresponding PIDE for option pricing under suitable assumptions. The qualitative properties of solutions to nonlocal linear and nonlinear PIDE are presented using the theory of abstract semilinear parabolic equation in the scale of Bessel potential spaces. The existence and uniqueness of solutions to the PIDE for a general class of the so-called admissible L\'evy measures satisfying suitable growth conditions at infinity and origin are also established in the multidimensional space.

Qualitative and numerical aspects of a motion of a family of interacting curves in space

In this article we investigate a system of geometric evolution equations describing a curvature driven motion of a family of 3D curves in the normal and binormal directions. Evolving curves may be subject of mutual interactions having both local or nonlocal character where the entire curve may influence evolution of other curves. Such an evolution and interaction can be found in applications. We explore the direct Lagrangian approach for treating the geometric flow of such interacting curves. Using the abstract theory of nonlinear analytic semi-flows, we are able to prove local existence, uniqueness and continuation of classical H\"older smooth solutions to the governing system of nonlinear parabolic equations. Using the finite volume method, we construct an efficient numerical scheme solving the governing system of nonlinear parabolic equations. Additionally, a nontrivial tangential velocity is considered allowing for redistribution of discretization nodes. We also present several computational studies of the flow combining the normal and binormal velocity and considering nonlocal interactions.

Utility indifference Option Pricing Model with a Non-Constant Risk-Aversion under Transaction Costs and Its Numerical Approximation

Our goal is to analyze the system of Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equations arising in derivative securities pricing models. The European style of an option price is constructed as a difference of the certainty equivalents to the value functions solving the system of HJB equations. We introduce the transformation method for solving the penalized nonlinear partial differential equation. The transformed equation involves possibly non-constant the risk aversion function containing the negative ratio between the second and first derivatives of the utility function. Using comparison principles we derive useful bounds on the option price. We also propose a finite difference numerical discretization scheme with some computational examples.

Multidimensional linear and nonlinear partial integro-differential equation in Bessel potential spaces with applications in option pricing

The purpose of this paper is to analyze solutions of a non-local nonlinear partial integro-differential equation (PIDE) in multidimensional spaces. Such class of PIDE often arises in financial modeling. We employ the theory of abstract semilinear parabolic equations in order to prove existence and uniqueness of solutions in the scale of Bessel potential spaces. We consider a wide class of L\'evy measures satisfying suitable growth conditions near the origin and infinity. The novelty of the paper is the generalization of already known results in the one space dimension to the multidimensional case. We consider Black-Scholes models for option pricing on underlying assets following a L\'evy stochastic process with jumps. As an application to option pricing in the one-dimensional space, we consider a general shift function arising from nonlinear option pricing models taking into account a large trader stock-trading strategy. We prove existence and uniqueness of a solution to the nonlinear PIDE in which the shift function may depend on a prescribed large investor stock-trading strategy function.

Application of maximal monotone operator method for solving Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equation arising from optimal portfolio selection problem

In this paper, we investigate a fully nonlinear evolutionary Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman (HJB) parabolic equation utilizing the monotone operator technique. We consider the HJB equation arising from portfolio optimization selection, where the goal is to maximize the conditional expected value of the terminal utility of the portfolio. The fully nonlinear HJB equation is transformed into a quasilinear parabolic equation using the so-called Riccati transformation method. The transformed parabolic equation can be viewed as the porous media type of equation with source term. Under some assumptions, we obtain that the diffusion function to the quasilinear parabolic equation is globally Lipschitz continuous, which is a crucial requirement for solving the Cauchy problem. We employ Banach's fixed point theorem to obtain the existence and uniqueness of a solution to the general form of the transformed parabolic equation in a suitable Sobolev space in an abstract setting. Some financial applications of the proposed result are presented in one-dimensional space.

On solutions of a partial integro-differential equation in Bessel potential spaces with applications in option pricing models

In this paper we focus on qualitative properties of solutions to a nonlocal nonlinear partial integro-differential equation (PIDE). Using the theory of abstract semilinear parabolic equations we prove existence and uniqueness of a solution in the scale of Bessel potential spaces. Our aim is to generalize known existence results for a wide class of L\'evy measures including with a strong singular kernel. As an application we consider a class of PIDEs arising in the financial mathematics. The classical linear Black-Scholes model relies on several restrictive assumptions such as liquidity and completeness of the market. Relaxing the complete market hypothesis and assuming a Levy stochastic process dynamics for the underlying stock price process we obtain a model for pricing options by means of a PIDE. We investigate a model for pricing call and put options on underlying assets following a Levy stochastic process with jumps. We prove existence and uniqueness of solutions to the penalized PIDE representing approximation of the linear complementarity problem arising in pricing American style of options under Levy stochastic processes. We also present numerical results and comparison of option prices for various Levy stochastic processes modelling underlying asset dynamics.

Dynamic intertemporal utility optimization by means of Riccati transformation of Hamilton-Jacobi Bellman equation

In this paper we investigate a dynamic stochastic portfolio optimization problem involving both the expected terminal utility and intertemporal utility maximization. We solve the problem by means of a solution to a fully nonlinear evolutionary Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman (HJB) equation. We propose the so-called Riccati method for transformation of the fully nonlinear HJB equation into a quasi-linear parabolic equation with non-local terms involving the intertemporal utility function. As a numerical method we propose a semi-implicit scheme in time based on a finite volume approximation in the spatial variable. By analyzing an explicit traveling wave solution we show that the numerical method is of the second experimental order of convergence. As a practical application we compute optimal strategies for a portfolio investment problem motivated by market financial data of German DAX 30 Index and show the effect of considering intertemporal utility on optimal portfolio selection.

Option Pricing in Illiquid Markets with Jumps

The classical linear Black--Scholes model for pricing derivative securities is a popular model in financial industry. It relies on several restrictive assumptions such as completeness, and frictionless of the market as well as the assumption on the underlying asset price dynamics following a geometric Brownian motion. The main purpose of this paper is to generalize the classical Black--Scholes model for pricing derivative securities by taking into account feedback effects due to an influence of a large trader on the underlying asset price dynamics exhibiting random jumps. The assumption that an investor can trade large amounts of assets without affecting the underlying asset price itself is usually not satisfied, especially in illiquid markets. We generalize the Frey--Stremme nonlinear option pricing model for the case the underlying asset follows a Levy stochastic process with jumps. We derive and analyze a fully nonlinear parabolic partial-integro differential equation for the price of the option contract. We propose a semi-implicit numerical discretization scheme and perform various numerical experiments showing influence of a large trader and intensity of jumps on the option price.
