We study some basic properties and examples of Hermitian metrics on complex manifolds whose traces of the curvature of the Chern connection are proportional to the metric itself.
We classify and investigate locally conformally Kähler structures on four-dimensional solvable Lie algebras up to linear equivalence. As an application we can produce many examples in higher dimension, here including lcK structures on Oeljeklaus-Toma manifolds, and we also give a geometric interpretation of some of the $4$-dimensional structures in our classification.
We study the Euler-Lagrange equation for several natural functionals defined on a conformal class of almost Hermitian metrics, whose expression involves the Lee form $θ$ of the metric. We show that the Gauduchon metrics are the unique extremal metrics of the functional corresponding to the norm of the codifferential of the Lee form. We prove that on compact complex surfaces, in every conformal class there exists a unique metric, up to multiplication by a constant, which is extremal for the functional given by the $L^2$-norm of $dJθ$, where $J$ denotes the complex structure. These extremal metrics are not the Gauduchon metrics in general, hence we extend their definition to any dimension and show that they give unique representatives, up to constant multiples, of any conformal class of almost Hermitian metrics.
We investigate isometric immersions of locally conformally Kaehler metrics into Hopf manifolds. In particular, we study Hopf-induced metrics on compact complex surfaces.
We investigate slice-quaternionic Hopf surfaces. In particular, we construct new structures of slice-quaternionic manifold on $\mathbb{S}^1\times\mathbb{S}^7$, we study their group of automorphisms and their deformations.
We obtain structure results for locally conformally symplectic Lie algebras. We classify locally conformally symplectic structures on four-dimensional Lie algebras and construct locally conformally symplectic structures on compact quotients of all four-dimensional connected and simply connected solvable Lie groups.
We present classical and recent results on Kähler-Einstein metrics on compact complex manifolds, focusing on existence, obstructions and relations to algebraic geometric notions of stability (K-stability). These are the notes for the SMI course "Kähler-Einstein metrics" given by C.S. in Cortona (Italy), May 2017. The material is not intended to be original.
These are the notes for the talk "Hodge numbers of a hypothetical complex structure on $S^6$" given by the author at the MAM1 "(Non)-existence of complex structures on $S^6$" held in Marburg in March 2017. They are based on [A. Gray, A property of a hypothetical complex structure on the six sphere, Boll. Un. Mat. Ital. B (7)} $\textbf{11}$ (1997), Suppl. fasc. 2, 251--255.] and [L. Ugarte, Hodge numbers of a hypothetical complex structure on the six sphere, Geom. Dedicata $\textbf{81}$ (2000), no. 1-3, 173--179.], where Hodge numbers and the dimensions of the succesive pages of the Frölicher spectral sequence for $S^6$ endowed with a hypothetical complex structure are investigated. We also add results from [Andrew McHugh, Narrowing cohomologies on complex $S^6$, Eur. J. Pure Appl. Math. $\textbf{10}$ (2017), no. 3, 440--454.], where the Bott-Chern cohomology of hypothetical complex structures on $S^6$ is studied. The material is not intended to be original.
We study cohomological properties of complex manifolds. In particular, under suitable metric conditions, we extend to higher dimensions a result by A. Teleman, which provides an upper bound for the Bott-Chern cohomology in terms of Betti numbers for compact complex surfaces according to the dichotomy $b_1$ even or odd.
We investigate degenerate special-Hermitian metrics on compact complex manifolds, in particular, degenerate Kähler and locally conformally Kähler metrics on special classes of non-Kähler manifolds.
We provide further techniques to study the Dolbeault and Bott-Chern cohomologies of deformations of solvmanifolds by means of finite-dimensional complexes. By these techniques, we can compute the Dolbeault and Bott-Chern cohomologies of some complex solvmanifolds, and we also get explicit examples, showing in particular that either the $\partial\overline{\partial}$-Lemma or the property that the Hodge and Frölicher spectral sequence degenerates at the first level are not closed under deformations.
We study conditions under which sub-complexes of a double complex of vector spaces allow to compute the Bott-Chern cohomology. We are especially aimed at studying the Bott-Chern cohomology of special classes of solvmanifolds, namely, complex parallelizable solvmanifolds and solvmanifolds of splitting type. More precisely, we can construct explicit finite-dimensional double complexes that allow to compute the Bott-Chern cohomology of compact quotients of complex Lie groups, respectively, of some Lie groups of the type $\mathbb{C}^n\ltimes_φN$ where $N$ is nilpotent. As an application, we compute the Bott-Chern cohomology of the complex parallelizable Nakamura manifold and of the completely-solvable Nakamura manifold. In particular, the latter shows that the property of satisfying the $\partial\overline\partial$-Lemma is not strongly-closed under deformations of the complex structure.
This note summarizes the talk by the author at the workshop "Geometry and Computer Science" held in Pescara in February 2017. We present how SageMath can help in research in Complex and Differential Geometry, with two simple applications, which are not intended to be original. We consider two "classification problems" on quotients of Lie groups, namely, "computing cohomological invariants" [D. Angella, M. G. Franzini, F. A. Rossi, Degree of non-Kählerianity for 6-dimensional nilmanifolds, Manuscripta Math. 148 (2015), no. 1-2, 177--211], [A. Latorre, L. Ugarte, R. Villacampa, On the Bott-Chern cohomology and balanced Hermitian nilmanifolds, Internat. J. Math. 25 (2014), no. 6, 1450057, 24 pp.], and "classifying special geometric structures" [D. Angella, G. Bazzoni, M. Parton, Structure of locally conformally symplectic Lie algebras and solvmanifolds, arXiv:1704.01197.], and we set the problems to be solved with SageMath.
We study the Morse-Novikov cohomology and its almost-symplectic counterpart on manifolds admitting locally conformally symplectic structures. More precisely, we introduce lcs cohomologies and we study elliptic Hodge theory, dualities, Hard Lefschetz Condition. We consider solvmanifolds and Oeljeklaus-Toma manifolds. In particular, we prove that Oeljeklaus-Toma manifolds with precisely one complex place, and under an additional arithmetic condition, satisfy the Mostow property. This holds in particular for the Inoue surface of type $S^0$.
We study the symplectic Bott-Chern cohomology by L.-S. Tseng and S.-T. Yau for solvmanifolds endowed with left-invariant symplectic structures. Our results are applicable to cohomology with values in local systems. Studying symplectic Bott-Chern cohomology of solvmanifolds with values in local systems, we give some remarks on symplectic Hodge theory.
We study the six-dimensional solvmanifolds that admit complex structures of splitting type classifying the underlying solvable Lie algebras. In particular, many complex structures of this type exist on the Nakamura manifold $X$, and they allow us to construct a countable family of compact complex non-$\partial\overline\partial$ manifolds $X_k$, $k\in\mathbb{Z}$, that admit a small holomorphic deformation $\{(X_{k})_{t}\}_{t\inΔ_k}$ satisfying the $\partial\overline\partial$-Lemma for any $t\inΔ_k$ except for the central fibre. Moreover, a study of the existence of special Hermitian metrics is also carried out on six-dimensional solvmanifolds with splitting-type complex structures.
We introduce a "qualitative property" for Bott-Chern cohomology of complex non-Kähler manifolds, which is motivated in view of the study of the algebraic structure of Bott-Chern cohomology. We prove that such a property characterizes the validity of the $\partial\overline\partial$-Lemma. This follows from a quantitative study of Bott-Chern cohomology. In this context, we also prove a new bound on the dimension of the Bott-Chern cohomology in terms of the Hodge numbers. We also give a generalization of this upper bound, with applications to symplectic cohomologies.
We introduce a property of compact complex manifolds under which the existence of balanced metric is stable by small deformations of the complex structure. This property, which is weaker than the $\partial\overline\partial$-Lemma, is characterized in terms of the strongly Gauduchon cone and of the first $\partial\overline\partial$-degree measuring the difference of Aeppli and Bott-Chern cohomologies with respect to the Betti number $b_1$.
