Local and global well-posedness in the $L^2$-setting for the Q-tensor model in $\mathbb R^N$ and $\mathbb R^N_+$

The paper studies the Q-tensor model for nematic liquid crystals, a system that couples a Navier-Stokes equation with an evolution equation for the order parameter tensor Q. The first goal of the paper is to establish the local well-posedness of the system in $\mathbb R^N$ and $\mathbb R^N_+$ for $N=2,3$ in the $L^2$ framework, improving existing results in the literature, where the existence of local strong solutions was obtained only under smallness assumptions on the initial data. Fundamental is the application of the energy method, which shows a cancellation phenomena on the nonlinear terms, allowing the use of a contraction argument to prove existence and uniqueness of solutions. Finally, with the same approach we establish global well-posedness in the three-dimensional case for small initial data.

Normalized solutions of one-dimensional defocusing NLS equations with nonlinear point interactions

We investigate normalized solutions for doubly nonlinear Schrödinger equations on the real line with a defocusing standard nonlinearity and a focusing nonlinear point interaction of $δ$-type at the origin. We provide a complete characterization of existence and uniqueness for normalized solutions and for energy ground states for every value of the nonlinearity powers. We show that the interplay between a defocusing standard and a focusing point nonlinearity gives rise to new phenomena with respect to those observed with single nonlinearities, standard combined nonlinearities, and combined focusing standard and pointwise nonlinearities.

The global well-posedness for the Q-tensor model of nematic liquid crystals in the half-space

In this paper, we consider the Q-tensor model of nematic liquid crystals, which couples the Navier-Stokes equations with a parabolic-type equation describing the evolution of the directions of the anisotropic molecules, in the half-space. The aim of this paper is to prove the global well-posedness for the Q-tensor model in the $L_p$-$L_q$ framework. Our proof is based on the Banach fixed point argument. To control the higher-order terms of the solutions, we prove the weighted estimates of the solutions for the linearized problem by the maximal $L_p$-$L_q$ regularity. On the other hand, the estimates for the lower-order terms are obtained by the analytic semigroup theory. Here, the maximal $L_p$-$L_q$ regularity and the generation of an analytic semigroup are provided by the R-solvability for the resolvent problem arising from the Q-tensor model. It seems to be the first result to discuss the unique existence of a global-in-time solution for the Q-tensor model in the half-space.

Doubly nonlinear Schrödinger normalized ground states on 2D grids: existence results and singular limits

We investigate the existence and the singular limit of normalized ground states for focusing doubly nonlinear Schrödinger equations with both standard and concentrated nonlinearities on two-dimensional square grids. First, we provide existence and non-existence results for such ground states depending on the values of the nonlinearity powers and on the structure of the set of vertices where the concentrated nonlinearities are located. Second, we prove that suitable piecewise-affine extensions of such states converge strongly in $H^1(\R^2)$ to ground states of corresponding doubly nonlinear models defined on the whole plane as the length of the edges in the grid tends to zero. This convergence is proved both for limit models with standard nonlinearities only and for models combining standard and singular nonlinearities concentrated on a line or on a strip.

The $\mathcal{R}$-boundedness of solution operators for the $Q$-tensor model of nematic liquid crystals

In this paper, we consider a resolvent problem arising from the $Q$-tensor model for liquid crystal flows in the half-space. Our purpose is to show the $\mathcal{R}$-boundedness for the solution operator families of the resolvent problem when the resolvent parameter lies near the origin. The definition of the $\mathcal{R}$-solvability implies the uniform boundedness of the operator and, consequently, the resolvent estimates for the linear system.

On the Cauchy problem for the reaction-diffusion system with point-interaction in $\mathbb R^2$

The paper studies the existence of solutions for the reaction-diffusion equation in $\mathbb R^2$ with point-interaction laplacian $Δ_α$ with $α\in(-\infty,+\infty]$, assuming the functions to remain on the absolute continuous projection space. By semigroup estimates, we get the existence and uniqueness of solutions on $$ L^\infty\left((0,T);H^1_α\left(\mathbb R^2\right)\right)\cap L^r\left((0,T);H^{s+1}_α\left(\mathbb R^2\right)\right), $$ with $r>2$, $s<\frac{2}{r}$ for the Cauchy problem with small $T>0$ or small initial conditions on $H^1_α(\mathbb R^2)$. Finally, we prove decay in time of the functions.

The $L^p$-$L^q$ maximal regularity for the Beris-Edward model in the half-space

In this paper, we consider the model describing viscous incompressible liquid crystal flows, called the Beris-Edwards model, in the half-space.This model is a coupled system by the Navier-Stokes equations with the evolution equation of the director fields $Q$. The purpose of this paper is to prove that the linearized problem has a unique solution satisfying the maximal $L^p$ -$L^q$ regularity estimates, which is essential for the study of quasi-linear parabolic or parabolic-hyperbolic equations. Our method relies on the $\mathcal R$-boundedness of the solution operator families to the resolvent problem in order to apply operator-valued Fourier multiplier theorems. Consequently, we also have the local well-posedness for the Beris-Edwards model with small initial data.

Local and global existence for the Ericksen-Leslie problem in unbounded domains

The work deals with the Ericksen-Leslie model for nematic liquid crystals on the whole space, the half-space and on exterior domains with smooth boundary. The crystal orientation is described by a unit vector that is a small perturbation of a fixed constant vector. We prove, through a combination of energy method with dispersive a priori estimates, a local existence and a global existence for small initial data by a contraction argument asking low regularity assumptions on the initial condition.

Local and global solutions on arcs for the Ericksen -- Leslie problem in the whole space

The work deals with the Ericksen-Leslie System for nematic liquid crystals on the whole space. In our work we suppose the initial condition of the orientation field stays on an arc connecting two fixed orthogonal vectors on the unit sphere. Thanks to this geometric assumption, we prove through energy a priori estimates the local existence and the global existence for small initial data of a solution in low regularity Sobolev spaces.
