The Brakke-BV structure of flat flows

We show that, in ambient dimension at most seven, varifold limits of the minimizing movements scheme introduced by Almgren--Taylor--Wang and Luckhaus--Sturzenhecker are integral Brakke flows. As a consequence, we show that $L^1$-limit points of the scheme, usually known as flat flows, are generalized BV flows. The result is unconditional and, in particular, remains valid even in the absence of energy convergence and in the presence of fattening.

Dynamical stability for the periodic modified Mullins-Sekerka flow

We prove dynamical stability in arbitrary dimension for the modified Mullins--Sekerka flow, the gradient flow of the sharp-interface Ohta--Kawasaki energy on the flat torus. Specifically, we show that if an initial set has the same volume as a strictly stable critical set for the energy and is sufficiently close to it in $C^{3,α}$, then the flow exists for all times and converges exponentially fast, in every $C^k$ norm, to a translate of that critical set. The proof relies on a quantitative Alexandrov-type estimate for strictly stable critical sets of the energy.

Non-polyconvex $Q$-integrands with lower semicontinuous energies

For any fixed $Q \in \mathbb N$, we construct a positive measure on the space of positively oriented $2$-vectors in $\mathbb R^4$, whose barycenter is a simple $2$-vector, yet which cannot be approximated by weighted Gaussian images of Lipschitz $Q$-graphs. The construction extends to positively oriented $m$-vectors in $\mathbb R^n$ whenever $n- 2 \ge m \ge 2$. This geometric obstruction implies that the approximation result established in [Arch. Ration. Mech. Anal., 2025] is sharp: all $Q \in \mathbb N$ are indeed necessary to ensure the density of weighted Gaussian images of Lipschitz multigraphs in the space of positive measures with simple barycenter. As an application, we prove that for every $Q \ge 1$ and $ p \ge 2$ there exists a non-polyconvex $Q$-integrand whose associated energy is weakly lower semicontinuous in $W^{1,p}$. This also provides new insight into the question posed in [Arch. Ration. Mech. Anal., 2025, Remark 1.14].

Elementary discrete diffusion/redistancing schemes for the mean curvature flow

We consider a fully discrete and explicit scheme for the mean curvature flow of boundaries, based on an elementary diffusion step and a precise redistancing operation. We give an elementary convergence proof for the scheme under the standard CFL condition $h\sim\e^2$, where $h$ is the time discretization step and $\e$ the space step. We discuss extensions to more general convolution/redistancing schemes.

Discrete-to-continuum crystalline curvature flows

We consider here a fully discrete variant of the implicit variational scheme for mean curvature flow [AlmTayWan,LucStu], in a setting where the flow is governed by a crystalline surface tension defined by the limit of pairwise interactions energy on the discrete grid. The algorithm is based on a new discrete distance from the evolving sets, which prevents the occurrence of the spatial drift and pinning phenomena identified in [MisiatsYip16,BraGelNov] in a similar discrete framework. We provide the first rigorous convergence result holding in any dimension, for any initial set and for a large class of purely crystalline anisotropies, in which the spatial discretization mesh can be of the same order or coarser than the time step.

Variational Nonlinear and Nonlocal Curvature Flows

We prove that the minimizing movements scheme á la Almgren-Taylor-Wang converges towards level-set solutions to a nonlinear version of nonlocal curvature flows with time-depending forcing term, in the rather general framework of variational curvatures introduced in \cite{ChaMorPon15}. The nonlinearity involved is assumed to satisfy minimal assumptions, namely continuity, monotonicity, and vanishing at zero. Under additional assumptions only on the curvatures involved, we establish uniqueness for level-set solutions.

The asymptotic of the Mullins-Sekerka and the area-preserving curvature flow in the planar flat torus

We study the asymptotic behavior of flat flow solutions to the periodic and planar two-phase Mullins-Sekerka flow and area-preserving curvature flow. We show that flat flows converge to either a finite union of equally sized disjoint disks or to a finite union of disjoint strips or to the complement of these configurations exponentially fast. A key ingredient in our approach is the derivation of a sharp quantitative Alexandrov inequality for periodic smooth sets.

Minimizing Movements for Anisotropic and Inhomogeneous Mean Curvature Flows

In this paper we address anisotropic and inhomogeneous mean curvature flows with forcing and mobility, and show that the minimizing movements scheme converges to level set/viscosity solutions and to distributional solutions \textit{à la} Luckhaus-Sturzenhecker to such flows, the latter holding in low dimension and conditionally to a convergence of the energies. By doing so we generalize recent works concerning the evolution by mean curvature by removing the hypothesis of translation invariance, which in the classical theory allows to simplify many arguments.

Long Time Behaviour of the Discrete Volume Preserving Mean Curvature Flow in the Flat Torus

We show that the discrete approximate volume preserving mean curvature flow in the flat torus $\mathbb{T}^N$ starting near a strictly stable critical set $E$ of the perimeter converges in the long time to a translate of $E$ exponentially fast. As an intermediate result we establish a new quantitative estimate of Alexandrov type for periodic strictly stable constant mean curvature hypersurfaces. Finally, in the two dimensional case a complete characterization of the long time behaviour of the discrete flow with arbitrary initial sets of finite perimeter is provided.
